McLean to confront Demons

Featured Replies

I look forward to this clash..............

we will beat them!!

this will be one of the most fired up demons teams in a loooong time

Would like to see Jones on him... hurt him going the other way.

Or better yet. beamer.

That'd be what happens when an irresistable force meets an immovable object.

Cue a bunch of posts saying that we should stop talking about Brock because he is in the past and no-one cares about it anymore.

Put Gysberts on him.

Stole my thunder there. Very good chance of this.

Amazing how your favourite player can be come one of your most hated just by moving to Carlton.

I used to love McLean once upon a time, now I hope he gets 1 possession against us and that Moloney smashes him into the turf multiple times.

*Sigh*. Should have stuck to reading my sales reports and not Demonland this morning.

Funny, while it's in the past, that article got me pretty pumped! Only hope it has twice the affect on the players. Is it Saturday yet?

Why?

How about the Club actually do match ups based on the best player for the role rather than shoddy self seving one up manship that at best suits supporters who are still smarting over McLean leaving?

Honestly Gysberts is in his 2nd game. McLean will be in and under packs looking for the first possession and handball out. Why wouldnt we be looking at Beamer, McKenzie or Jones for that? I am sure the Club will be more sensible in their approach here.

Fair enough RR. In reality any match ups will change with the dynamics on the day.

IMO there are plenty of other Carlscum midfielders that will need consideration before the likes of Mclean. Personally, I rate Gysberts and I would enjoy seeing him have a crack on Mclean and not out of spite. I don't personally think that's overly self serving or senseless.

Or McLean on Gysberts.

McLean is the in and under play maker in the Carlton midfield.

They wont give him a tagging role of a 2nd gamer. McLean has not got the pace to go with any target

And Bailey wont make a 2nd game kid responsible to nullify a mature player in the congested contests in the middle.

Just a bit of fun Rhino. As if you're going to put anyone "on" McLean.

Jones.. Just tell him to blanket him and not worry about possessions .. A win win really

Fair enough. THere are other posters Jack that think Gysberts should seriously be on him.

I would certainly be looking to Jones and Moloney to be at him and make his day hard and unfriendly.

He is their firs dibs supply to their stars and we need to cut him down big time.

Jones and McLean are good mates. Still imagine they are.

My guess is not much will be made of it by either side. Both sides will be more focused on winning. Only supporters and the media will probably make the biggest issue of it all.

You make him sound like a one man midfield Rhino....

If I had my way i'd have:

Jones on Judd

Bennel on Gibbs (in as much as a forward should be "on" a defender)

Scully on Murphy, murphy has an amazing ability to get to space and Scully is one of only a few players who have the legs to defend that, and then attack off him when the opportunity arises.

Of course it is never as simple as that, but that is a good start. McLean could be dangerous, and I wonder how much his knowledge of Jamar's tapwork will benefit him.

Matrship has never stopped players playing with the vigour of the situation in the past.

I seemed to recall Marcus Seecamp getting 4 weeks for belting one of his best mates in a game some years ago.

I would expect Beamer to be front and center when theres the opportunity given the way Beamer plays.

Put Gysberts on him.

It wont be a matter of putting anybody on him! They will be putting him on one of our guys. But hey! He wont keep up.

I would like to see Beamer go head to head with him!

With Moloney's "white line fever" I find it hard to imagine that he won't have a dip at McLean when they step out on to the field, no matter how close they are as mates off the field. As Rhino said, if/when there's trouble I expect to see Moloney's stumpy legs and enormous arms in pole position.

You make him sound like a one man midfield Rhino....

Not at all.

A midfield is made up of players playing specific roles within the midfield mix. McLeans role is to win the contested ball and to create play by feeding the ball out to better runners and users of the ball like Judd, Murphy and Gibbs. I am not sure its the perfect role for McLean and I will watching with interest as to whether he succeeds or not over the course of the time at the Blues.

Likewise, and equally compelling will be the Jamar/Kruezer contest

I didn't watch the game but I recall reading that against the eagles Brock was used as a stopper to quell Priddis?

Not sure how the author came to this conclusion, but if Brock really is being used as a stopper we're in luck.

Doesn't matter who he is on, he's not capable of staying with them.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
