BROWNLOW LOOK-ALIKES

Featured Replies

Posted

At Prince's Park on Saturday I couldn't help noticing the similarity in appearance of two young Demons with two old-time Brownlow winners in their youth.(from other Clubs.)

Can anyone guess to whom I'm referring?

Clue??

One of the Brownlow winners won 2, at different Clubs.

I'm a bit worried that no-one else will see the resemblance(I am talking more than 30 years ago!)

But there was a THIRD young Demon , also likened to an interstate Brownlow Winner by a mate of mine on Saturday. I hadn't noticed it till he pointed it out. This third one is more recent!

Actually, one of them won 3(sorry 'bout that!....makes it hard when the facts are wrong!!), 2 at one club, one at another.

The recent one plays for Adelaide.

The other one was the oldest player to win it.

By the way the resemblance was in the way the players move, and their style, rather than their facial appearance.

Jamie bennell?? He reminds me A.Mcleod :)

Ian Stewart.

Yep. That's one. Anyone else notice it?

Tom Scully reminded me of him the way he got the ball in packs, got it out fast, or ran in a wide arc on to his left foot. It'd be great if he ever turned out as good overhead as Stewart was. If he turns out half as good he'll be a star.

So who is the other look-a-like youngster and former Brownlow medallist ? Was it Bennell / McLeod of Adelaide ?

Yes, my mate reckons Jamie's like a young McLeod. How'd it be if he develops disposal like his!(a long way to go!)....but he knows how to get the ball.

But who's the third one, who reminds me of the oldest player to win it(when HE was a yougster).?

I can't phone a friend, and Eddie is out of the country. You will have to give us another clue !

When this oldest Brownlow winner received his award, he deliberately wore a long-sleeved jumper to hide his tattoo!.

Our youngster who reminds me of him is tough and hard , under the packs. Similar hair colour, but a lot more of it, at this stage!

I'll be interested to see if any other more senior(in age) posters agree.

Sylvia ?

Supposedly the oldest is Barry Round, but I reckon you're talking about Kevin Murray.

And I'd be guessing Jack Grimes.

If I blur my eyes a little a can see it, not quite so hunched though.

Sorry, I do mean Kevin Murray....I thought he was the oldest.Sorry, I've made it hard getting my facts wrong!!! He must have been surpassed by Barry Round.

But Jack isn't the Demon who reminded me of him. This guy throws himself fearlessly at the ball like Murray did, but I can't see him ever being a CHB....perhaps HBF and midfield.

Jack Trengove ?

+1 on McKenzie for me but no one was faster getting back into the pack on their knees than Bulldog Murray

Was 31 when he won the Brownlow, from behind the fence he never looked younger than about 87 to me though.

Pretty robust 87 year-old it has to be said.

Well done, Fellas!

The three who reminded me of Medallists were....

Jordie McKenzie (Murray)

Tom Scully....(Stewart)

Jamie Bennell.....(McLeod)

Let's hope they all win Brownlows!

I hate to be a stickler here, but Andrew McLeod has never won a Brownlow!

2 Norm Smith Medals and a Champion player but no Brownlow.

I do enjoy the positivity of the thread though :)!

Your mate shouldn't have told you that Bennel reminded him of a Brownlow medalist, but I think it's a fair comparison. I said the same thing very early last year.

It's good to be a stickler. Cannot believe I didn't pick that up. I agree regarding the positivity.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
