It's a bloody forum for goodness sake.....

Right so spare us the hissy fits. If you cant discuss and prepare to be challenged then...

Well putting it simply..Cuthbertson only played 5..Jurrah almost single seasonally doubles this.. and we know he will be there for some time.

And with Darren it was all but voila !! presto..here today gone tomorrow...who was that masked man etc. No one really expected anything of him ...he surpassed everything for a moment..but only a moment.. Pity really.

Jurrah we know there is much yet to be seen and we try to contain our enthusiasm for what will unfold.

Tell ya what...go ask this same question on the other 15 forums (well all that have one ) and see what all other footy folk think of Jurrah...it will be a resounding YES

What do they say about pots and kettles? No, that's right, the most apt cliche is "people in grass houses should not get stoned."

I can stand up to the "challenge" brother, but what I can't abide is being contrary for the sake of it and a lack of grace when one responds to a fellow poster.

Anyway RR, you are the oracle after all and as mi old dad used to say, "don't try and teach you're grandmother to suck eggs" As a result, I have always had respect for my elders.

No it wasnt. The poll was a simple yes or no situation.

How can it not be an exercise on people's opinions on Liam whether he is a star or not ?

The poll is a yes or no poll. Opinions nevertheless.

And you poll did not support your conclusion. The poll was useless and discussion fulfilling my statement.

And what was my conclusion Rhino ?

edit: discussion fulfilling your statement ? There are quite a few opinion replies to the thread topic on both sides of the equation Rhino. Some say yes, some say no, some say not yet. Oh wait, there you have it they've added their opinion as well as their vote.

if jurrah is a satr now in two years time he will be a farken supernova!

strangely probably the most accurate of all observations so far...:lol:

...but not reflective of people's opinions

Your Poll's conclusion

"QUOTE (Clint Bizkit @ Oct 29 2009, 01:44 PM)

It simply confirms that we have a very good player on our hands, star or no star.

Indeed. I think that is what the poll has concluded too."

It was a fruitless poll. The poll did not include any option but yes or no and did not reflect the opinions stated in the thread which was on the semantics of being a star .

Glad you're so easily chuffed.

Well putting it simply..Cuthbertson only played 5..Jurrah almost single seasonally doubles this.. and we know he will be there for some time.

http://stats.rleague.com/afl/stats/players...uthbertson.html

Well putting it simply..you're wrong. He played 32 games over 3 years. And after 9 games and 25 years you would have been frothing at the mouth over the player

And with Darren it was all but voila !! presto..here today gone tomorrow...who was that masked man etc. No one really expected anything of him ...he surpassed everything for a moment..but only a moment.. Pity really.

His efforts over his first nine games aptly rival Jurrah's output. And as you have alluded to below all you have is your enthusiasm. That's fine.

Jurrah we know there is much yet to be seen and we try to contain our enthusiasm for what will unfold.

Its not working is it! ;)

Tell ya what...go ask this same question on the other 15 forums (well all that have one ) and see what all other footy folk think of Jurrah...it will be a resounding YES

Get out of here. No kidding! Are your sure? Wow.

I like the idea of asking other clubs discussion boards whether Liam Jurrah is a star or not.

The outside observer is often closer to the Truth. We all want & wish him to be a star, opposition supporters couldn't care less.

I know some pretty cheesed off Filth supporters who could "care less".

I think Jurrah's a star because supporters of other clubs are already talking about how exciting he is.

On the other hand, I don't think Jurrah's yet been as useful as a player as Brent Moloney, and yet I don't consider Moloney a star b/c it's really only us who would rave about him.

Barry loves Brent Moloney

Good! May they be surly for years to come!

Short answer - yes he's a star - one that's only just come onto the horizon.

Thank god he's with us!

It will be no more reliable than this forum.

Many people might not have seen him play. Then again its never disturbed the drafting experta waxing lyrically on plagarised comment off other forums.

9 games in a starved forward line vs a midfielder in the system for seven years. Harsh test.

Barry, we all love Brent Moloney!

Star attraction but not a star player just yet

I think Because of his x factor a lot of opposition supporters would have had a look at Liam, maybe only hilights packages granted, but he stands out for sure.

Star attraction but not a star player just yet

how is one not the other ?? a star is a star and thats the whole point many are missing.

is he a seasoned AFL champ ? Nope..not yet.

is he a star?? bucket loads !!

I can see your point. He is going to bring people to games and create excitement not just amongst melbourne supporters. So in this respect he is a star of the competition. I don't think everyone views a star in this way though, more so a top line player.

Who cares though, if you think he is a star then good for you. We can all hopfully agree by this time next year.

look at that... youve seen the light !! hehehe :D

I can understand many suggesting he hasnt earnt his stripes..or legitimacy in their eyes to being a star.. but again I suggest its a confusion of nouns. He hasnt become a champ yet, no argument but many people go along to the footy with a much less critical view of the game. They have their favourites etc and amongst a great deal of the footy watching population Jurrah has quickly entrenched himself as one to watch, a excitement machine... He is..a star of the game. I know Collingwood supporters who grimace at his name ( beautifulisnt it ) I know other club supporters who salivate at the idea of getting a Jurrah -like in this coming draft.

Stars have X factor.. many champs dont..Jurrah does.. :)

What a premature/stupid question.

Wasted 4 minutes trawling through this crap.

Seconded.

Can't we just all settle on rising star?

This isn't astrology 'Bub.

This has purely been a discussion of semantics. In the player review, HT you yourself asked what the criteria for a star was, therefor a poll of "yes" or "no" cannot conceivably canvass peoples opinions if there is not proper definition.

Edit: there's a different between a star and star quality. IMO, Mclean showed star qualities but was not a star, as do many of the players in the league.

Mclean showed "star Qualities"...When, i must have gone to the Gents when he lit up.

Travis Johnstone was a classic who showed star Qualities, but could never be classed as a Real star. Why because when he was really needed to kick that winning goal late in the last (insert James Hird) Trav was not there, even though he showed skill during that same game.

I want to see Liam play some wonderful football in september, that's when his star will burn.

Sorry, I forgot he's now a Carlton player.

Green, Bruce, Grimes, Sylvia, Moloney, Newton, Aussie, Davey, Jones, Garland, Rivers, Petterd, Bate, Bartram and Morton would all have to have been called "stars" at some point of their careers judging by some of the criterion I've seen.

But yes, each to their own - however I must say I detest people who challenge others, than have their opinion challenged only to fall behind the "I'm just saying my opinion, deal with it" line

Out of that List, Green,Bruce & Davey have all shown star qualities at times by playing well in games during september. The Rest have the potential. This club & us supporters have accepted mediocraty for way too long, & i am so happy that i can actually feel that changing finally.

Mclean Going to Carlton is irrelevant-He went M.I.A. too often in games to be a star (apart from 1 game in 2006) James Hird Played like that on a weekly basis.

Edited by why you little

You completely just missed the point didn't you

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
