Pick 34 - Will We Or Wont We

Featured Replies

Will we or wont we use it? Some days I think we will - some days I think we wont.

Would we be the first team in history - To finish 16 and then proceed to pass out of the draft with the 1st pick in the 3rd round?

Luke Ball might be the one who decides this. I suspect if we are going to get him we may cut a player and still use 34. Or if a gem slips through ala Jurrah. But cutting a player for cuttings sake may not happen.

We have 6 spots now so 5 picks in the ND and 1 pick in the PSD that means definitely will use 34 unless they think they can get 2 players in the PSD which is doubtful.

Prediction that 34 becomes a speculative pick on a Ruck option as a project player.

Where does the 6th spot come from? Robbo, Wheats,Wheels, Brock and Bucks = 5 off the senior list

I hope so. I hope to god we don't use picks 11 or 18 on a Ruckmen.

Apologies your are right Valenti was a rookie list...

Its supposed to be a thin draft - yet several teams have opened up their lists for 5-8 picks after we finish.

Its going to be very speculative after first round so they are taking a punt in the last 'uncompromised' draft which of course its not...its already compromised...

What would you rather, pick 34 or Kyle Cheney.

It may come to that if you're that desperate for pick 34.

Or Kyle Cheney?

It will also depend on whether you will use PSD 1.

If for example we were to use PSD 1 on Ball then Pick 34 may not be used.

Does anyone know if McNamara, Bartram or Cheney have been re contracted yet?

i thought that one more had to be delisted for us to have 6 picks?

one of which in PSD?

Just to clear up any confusion.

Current state of play: 5 vacancies on the senior list, created by Robertson, Whelan, Wheatley, McLean and Buckley. That gives us access to:

Pick 1

Pick 2

Pick 11

Pick 18

Pick 34 OR PSD Pick 1

We've got three players presently uncontracted: Bartram, McNamara and Cheney. Bartram and McNamara have allegedly been offered new contracts (though there's no concrete evidence to suggest this is fact); if we assume that is true, and we also take as given that we want to keep PSD 1 for that "just in case" scenario, then BBP's assertion that it's now a choice between Pick 34 and Cheney is correct. That is a lot of ifs and buts though.

My preference would be to delist one more and use Pick 34, and keep PSD1 up our sleeve.

thank you for clearing that up!!!

they can get one of the three above mentioned to go to rookie list (assuming the accept) though which would give us another pick

yes???

Yes, but to do that, the player will have to go through the ND and PSD first and then fall to us in the rookie draft, you can't just "put them on the rookie list". It's what I would do for one of Cheney/McNamara, but of course the risk is that they get snavelled up by someone else.

BARTRAM for me...... he is baggage!!!

the other two are young still and Cheney was injured last yr and still played lots of games

worth keeping

Agree absolutely

But Bartram's been training ... and there is whisper that he has been offered a one year contract ( and is p--- d because its not 2)

Where was this alleged? Any source?

That is baffling if Bartram is not delisted.

What was wrong with him?

If it was impacting on his pace then he might have a role.

Hoopla, you clearly have it in for Barts which is fair enough. Who is your source on this information, it seems to me that you are fast becoming a power broker within the MFC. I hear that you are also responsible for Sylvia's turnaround in form and attitude and that you were instrumental in keeping Jamar away from Port Adelaide. It is probably you that got Barts one year vs two.

It might be very speculative, but that's when good recruiting comes to the fore. Geelong is a prime example over the last several years.

Your detective work on hoopla hasn't gone unnoticed. Nice work Cuthbo.

funny you say that because it was impacting his pace and he is actually very quick.... he had a crook ankle!!!

Hightower, have you ever seen Mr Cuthbertson play?

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
