You expectations are pretty much the same as mine, two years in a row of bottom of the ladder is enough for me it's time we started moving up and i fully expect us to do so.

we will win 8 or more games ,we will not have another spoon, reason being Sydney are gone they have not developed any player under the age of 21, exp white, they have lost a few to retirement, and how many more times can goodies win them games by himself. We have to rebuild the right way, look at the tiger, they have been rebuilding since 2002, spud was rebuilding got it wrong, then Wallace was rebuilding got it wrong again, now hardwick has to rebuild again, this time they cant rebuild because of gc17 then ws18, coming in the next two seasons, they will have to rebuild with picks 6 onwards god help them

The dees bottom out at the right time our timing was prefect.

Agree with your sentiments Stalwart. I've been supporting the Dees for a bit longer than you, and I've been lucky enough to see some premierships along the way (but obviously they are now distant memories). All three of my kids have been one-eyed Melbourne supporters for all of their lives, and like yours, they will never waver in their support (we brought them up well eh!).

You are absolutely correct, two spoons on the trot is very hard to take ....... but I'm convinced we are about to come out of the bottom of a 'J curve'.

Bailey said at the start of this year that his aim was to have a more competitive team in '09, and this has clearly been achieved. Next year we will be setting our sights higher, definitely more competitive again, and with it more wins (8+ wins is not an unreasonable expectation IMO). I can honestly say that I have never been more excited about the medium and longer term prospects of the Melbourne Football team ..... and the exhilaration of the ride ahead of us will soon erase the disappointment of successive bottom of the ladder finishes.

I hope you are right, as for Bailey I am still reserving my opinion, he took on the MFC at the worst of times, so we have to give him a chance,

As for our kids, they are true do or die red and blue supporters.

I just hope all these new young players coming to the Melbourne football club realise the passion that kids like ours have for their team and that we also still maintain.

Mediocrity is no longer acceptable, application, determination and downright bloody mindness is required. Our boys need to turn the Melbourne Football Club into something to be admired as well as respected. As the old saying goes the ball is in their court now and it’s up to Bailey the team and the Melbourne football club to show that our belief is warranted let alone justified.

In 2010 I'd like to see a melbourne line up that isn't injury effected. This year we were torn up by the injuries, for about 3 weeks we had two teams 22 playing 22 injured. We have a great amount of young players that all need serious experience and that would be the big goal for the year.

Finish - 10th

Top goal kicker - Watts

B&F - Sylvia

As much as I'd love to see it, I highly doubt Watts will be our leading goalkicker at the end of next season. Year after maybe.

i Suppose there are a number of ways to come at this. Id break it into two. Style..and Results.

Under Style I would hope that with more games in their legs and beef on frame that the team as a whole would develope greater consistency and coherence. I would expect the quality of football to lift and the demeanor of players change to reflect this. In short , tot start looking and playing liek they can...and should.

As a result.. I think 7-9 wins is reasonable given we won 4 this year trying not to win. We still nearly won two others. A continued overhaul of the list and another preseason plus some serious talent now allowed to focus on the football and football only ought to provide dividends.

Finish 1st

davey win brownlow, b&f & most valuable player

Silvia to win Norm Smith

Scully to win Rising Star

Watts and Jurrah to kick 100 each and draw for Coleman

AND the best of all

PREMIERS BY 100 POINTS OVER COLLINGWOOD

we can all dream

but realistic would love to make the eight but may be a but soon for that

finish 9, 10, 11 and i'll be happy AND pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeee win on Queens b'day that would top it off

Would not be happy with anything less than 8 wins. If we get less than that Bailey's head could be on the chopping block

Yes I wonder what the response will be?

If we dont receive even our own minimum expectations, the tone I am sure would certainly change on this forum, lets all agree on one thing now

The "WOODEN SPOON" is not a option this year coming.

Improvement is a must reardless nothing else is acceptable nor should it be.

Consolidation. Improvement.

So - are you saying winning 4 games is satisfactory/consolidating our position by loosing by less.if not where do you think we should finish?

What? 4 wins would not be an improvement.

I have no idea where we should finish - the list is not even finalised. Hope we win 6-10, whatever position that results in.

All of the following to play 12+ games, ideally in the same team as much as possible:

Watts, Blease, Strauss, Scully, Trengove, Maric, Wonaeamirri, Garland, Bennell

A competitive 22 every week playing a brand of footy worth watching. Wins and ladder position mean little to me, progression is everything.

My expectations for next year is to see Melbourne lose many more games. We are still sh!t house.

May I cast your minds back to last year and some predictions even saying we don't need anymore priority picks, but in fact we do and we got them.

We all live with to much expectation every year.

Example here LINK - 2009 hopefulls

Yes Belzebub59 you were naive !!

Along with many others and same goes for this year.

I would like us to show improvement but most of all to beat a good team. A team that is entrenched in the top 8. In all honest when was the last time we beat a side in the top 8?
