Now with a bit of soap opera come reality show effect. for ratings.

changed to thursday night at 6.30 through to 8pm to be live on fox sports..

Fuschia, you make a very good argument indeed for Dustin Martin - I agree that he seems to have been forgotten amid the "Trengove vs Butcher" debate.

The only advantage Trengove seems to have over Martin is having played against men in the SANFL rather than against other boys in the TAC. Then again, as you say, the one reservation that a number have expressed about Trengove is not an issue for Martin - how much weight is put on this issue will be a matter for the face-to-face interview.

My understanding of Dustin is that he's a late starter to footy and has been a very fast developer and improver. Has come from nowhere in the last 2 years. Likely to be a really good player, but i do have one concern. Watching him live, he seemed to be a bit one-paced. Not a great turn of speed or acceleration, but good endurance. I question whether he is the type of player we are looking for, as he gets the majority of his footy in close and is similar to what we already have.

But atleast they will put it at the start of the telecast, when I first heard about it I figured they would hold it out until the end. Should be interesting to see how they do it, will be a lot different watching it on a Thursday evening than listening to it on a Saturday morning. Best part of it all being that it's gonna be 2 days earlier.

Ta;lking to some Richmond fans today and they said they will be very happy to have Martin. They had seen him play and said that he is really outstanding and given that Scully and Trengove are taking all the limelight hoping that he doesnt go early.

OBVIOUSLY ROHAN IS SPEED PERSONIFIED.. ( cooney like-red head and all)BUT HE DOESN'T GET ENOUGH OF THE BALL..

HE WAS MARKED AT 13 AVE. DISPOSALS IN U18'S CHAMPS.& and his kicking can be rushed and sloppy..

he had a couple of shots on goal 20 meter's out and sprayed it..

in tac cup he played 9 games & got 120 disposals= 13.3 ave..

he was "1" best once- with a 4th & 6th best once each.-out of 9 games.

there is no way he got near martin in stats and effectiveness in that last game against wa.

martin got 20 touches in the first half alone and was the only reason for vic/country staying in the game he obviously tired in the last quarter which was fair enough..

What a pre season would do.!! his speed is not an issue considering class gets u out of trouble with weaving and winding around opponents- do u remember james hird-diesel williams-even buckley& voss didn't posess great speed but seemed to go ok..

but his goal in the first quarter was a fantastic effort when he chased the wa boys out of his forward pocket,

got the ball back on the wing, ran along boundary and pinged without any fuss.really class act.

I remember watching the Vic Country/WA game and thinking he was an absolute gun. They did comment during the game that he was a late bloomer, and no he doesn't have pack busting speed, but he just continually found the footy and used it on both sides of his body better than any of the players I watched on Fox that day.

Is he worth a no.2 pick over Trengove or Butcher though? I am not sure, but I wouldn't be unhappy if we took a punt on him.

I actually thought that there was a lil twinkle/ lil passion when he was talking about Dustin Martin too.

From recent drafts the mantra has been players who are great kicks and great decision makers.

& Tim rates Dustin Martin as the best kick and decision maker in the whole 09 class. Strong over the ball, very quick off the mark, a ball magnet and a booming kick.

Interesting times.

I know much of the debate about our 2nd pick is centered around Trengove, Morabito ad Butcher, I am throwing Dustin Martins name firmly in the ring as well. Now i don't profess to know anymore about these kids other than watching the U/18 champs on Foxsports, so i am going on the performance of Dustin on that day and his impressive TAC stats in a struggling Bendigo team.

I thought Martin was the outstanding player at Etihad Stadium playing against WA. He can find the pill, is an elite user by foot on both sides of his body ad can also take a grab and kick a goal. He doesn't seem to have outstanding speed, but his engine and workrate didn't seem to be an issue. If i were to compare him to a current AFL player,i would probably say he is a Dal Santo/Pendlebury type.

From what i could gather from the commentry, it seems Dustin is a late bloomer and has just started coming on this year, and best of all he is a Victorian boy so there would be no go home factor with him.

If anyone has seen him play in the TAC or has anymore useful info on him, please post away. I am officially heading up the bandwagon.

Dustin Martin is a good quality attacking midfielder who can kick well off both feet. He also has good balance and can keep his feet when in a contest. Martin averaged over 21 touches in the AFL under 18 championships, which is a decent effort for a midfielder. Martin is also an AFL under 18championships All-Australian player. He was named in the team as a centre.

Dustin Martin will attend the AFL draft camp in late September which is hosted by the AIS in Canberra. Martin has been touted as a first round pick “Dustin is a great chance of being in the top 10 at the national draft,” said Ray Byrne, Bendigo Bank Pioneers regional manager. Dustin Martin was the CVGT Rising Star award winner in the Bendigo Bank Bendigo Football Netball League in 2008.

Martin is also very good at getting the ball inside 50, as he is very attacking; he has had 27 inside 50 entries in the AFL under 18championships. Dustin was instrumental, along with Andrew Hooper, in Vic Country’s win over Tasmania. He has been consistently in the bests this year for Vic Country. He amassed 20 touches in a half to steer Vic Country to victory early in the match. He did slow in the second half though, only gathering another 8 possessions for the rest of the match.

Dustin Martin has been working on his fitness and work rate this year, which enables him to play as ruck rover for large amounts of game time. He is also able to break free of tackles and keep his feet, which is a good sign in a midfielder. He has shown he is quite strong and can take a clean mark.

Martin has been played deep in the forward line at times. The only negative thing that I have seen said about him is by Melbourne’s national recruiting manager Barry Prendergast who said that “Dustin Martin has struggled in some games, but has really stepped up today [July the 1st]”.

Martin is a good height at 187cm and weighs 86kg, so he has a fair amount of bulk and looks to have a good sized frame for a midfielder.

Id be happy with either martin, trengove or morabtio.

Id be extremely happy if we could package away some unwanted players with pic 34 or even 18 to get another first rounder.

Very good player but I don't know about pick 2. I've got no doubt he could go as high as pick 5, however I have a feeling that he could be the driffter in this draft and end up at Carlton at pick 11, ala Daniel Rich to Brisbane pick 7 in 2008 National Draft.
