Two step process:

1 only a little infrastructure investment - poor spectator amenity, but very cheap to run

2 infrastructure investment to the standard of Carrara, Manuka etc - improved spectator amenity, but still very cheap to run and home to a couple of matches a year such as MFC v Gold Coast, Western Sydney, Port Adelaide, Freo etc

A 3rd step could see an upgrade to Skilled Stadium standard, but that would require a significant investment. You would not want to justify such investment by taking too many MFC home games away from the MCG, but if it was developed as the 3rd Melbourne “boutique” stadium (15-25,000 people with reasonable amenities) it could in fact pick up the additional demand across a range of Melbourne-based clubs generated by the additional clubs in the national comp.

And MFC could be in the driving seat, as the key associated AFL club because of its association with Casey Council and the Casey Scorpions.

I thought the contractual arrangements with the existing stadiums in Melbourne was that AFL could not be played in a new stadium in Melbourne.

Hence why there is talk of playing at Princes Park again or using Skilled in the debate over match day returns.

I could be wrong.

Casey, I'd love to play home matches at Casey (as I'm sure the MFC would) but at the moment we can't - regardless of upgrades to the ground

I was thinking about this only about a week ago, when reading about the Bulldogs and their venturing up north. We've got quite a few boys on our list and it currently makes perfect sense to allign ourselves, with a few NT games over say the next 5 years. Give ourselves two years establish ourselves in NT, with a few home games and then when we become successful again in 3 to 4 years, people will hopefully sign up ala Tasmanian Hawks.

Jimmy Stynes a star on the field and now as a Pres, surely hes winning our Best and Fairest, What a year hes having, such a massive impact.

If it makes the MFC survive and makes us the best club on and off the field im all for it.

This whole Darwin thing is a great Idea, we should pursue it full on.

The MFC must be pro active. 3-4 games a year up there against smaller clubs. Down here we get a big social club going & all watch it on the Big screen. Club makes $$$$ two ways.

Why Darwin all of a sudden?

We're supposed to have just strengthened our alliance with the MCC..... and we are about to announce a deal with Casey (apparently)

Darwin's too far away - and too humid for AFL footy. The current Darwin deal seems to be causing the Bulldogs big headaches - why will it be any better for us?

The prospect of the Dees having an interstate home in Darwin is heating up.

We know the Bulldogs want to remain but now the Port Power have popped up and want the opportunity.

I think with the rumours of the season being extended to 24 games makes it even more appealing and i really hope the dees win out on this opportunity!

...as it stands at the moment, the MFC

- train part time at the junction

- are developing state of the art facilities in Casey, where we also have our affiliate VFL side

- building community relationships in Melbournes biggest growth area

- have the MCG as our 'home' ground, where we at present also have our offices

- setting up a new administration home in the new rectangle sporting precinct

and now we want to play home games in the NT and develop a community following there as well.

Is anyone else confused where our 'home' actually is?

We are then getting involved with other communities such as Casey and maybe even Darwin to grow our supporter base while always acknowledging our home is in the city of Melbourne. I don't feel confused at all about where our home is.

At the risk of being unpopular, can i suggest that tassie is a better fit for port?

After all arn't port supports proof that tasmainians can swim?

Neither do I for that matter.

Developing a relationship with our VFL affiliate Casey and it's community is a long term strategy which will help strengthen our roots with something the club quite really hasn't had. A huge growth area which will encourage new members/supporter base. As Jimmy has stated it's like a Home campus. Training there can only be of benefit to the relationship and the better development of the Mfc players with state of the art facilities.

The MCG is our ground. Realigning ourselves with the MCC/MFC relationship strengthens our club.

Training at the Junction Oval - part time is a necessity for the interim as the club embarks on these changes.

New administration home at the Bubble Dome precinct from what I gather is a short term solution for offices until Southern Stand reconstructions take place. Someone else might want to confirm this; unless the goal posts have shifted.

The clubs desire to seek community involvement and games in Darwin for financial gain as well as the connection to the NT through a number of our Indigenous players shows good initiative in my opinion.
