Although I agree that it's pretty poor, the last thing I want is compensation.

I just want the administration to get their &*#^ together so we are not the laughing stock of the competition for any longer than we have to be.

No matter who was at fault, the buck stops with the club.

Completely agree with that. However, I am not using the word "compensation", I am just saying a good will token gesture would be in order that's all.

AN invite to a President's lunch was just a suggestion, no more than that. Other ideas may be in order and more appropriate.

I keep forgetting that you have a mortgage on the moral high ground (another cliche )

No its more like basic common sense (one more for you).

At least someone has some common sense around here. <_<

Pity it's not that common.

So it wasn't only me. That's good to know.

Yeah I'm sure it was just a mistake but I thought it was pretty funny, so I was hamming it up and feigning extreme incredulity in my OP.

Re the Age sub, I've been on the phone to the local newsagent once, the age twice, and the MFC once, and all say it's someone else's fault. Oh well, didn't cost much, so I'll consider it a donation.

I'm creating a dartboard laden with the St Kilda paraphenalia so at least Hayes' head will come in handy.

Why not ring The Age??

Melbourne in the last two weeks has faced Fire, heavy winds, storms and even an earthquake. MFC has recently merged with the Scorpions and fought with the dogs for a major sponsor. In search of Salvation, the Demons have been exorcised and the Saints have been called upon

At no point in this discussion, RR, did I use the word "compensation". That's another case of spin which you use on this forum often, which clearly you are adept in doing.

Despite all that, clearly you are a passionate Dees man and at the end of the day (yet another cliche) that is all that matters.

GO DEES

Yeah for sure mate. I wasn't disagreeing with you.

Given Jimmy Stynes was my science teacher in grade four, yeah an invite to the Presidents Lunch wouldn't be too much to ask I wouldn't think.

I understand that the sending of ST. Kilda memberships instead of Melbourne is an error but none the less not acceptable.

I have had nothing but problems with the membership department for the last 2 years - this year in particular. And in my opinion if MFC can't keep their members satisfied then people will not re-new memberships.

My dramas were that last October I received my 'family renewal' online and paid it immediately, wanting to use the payment plan. I realised a day later that my eldest (15yrs) was no longer a junior and needed an adult membership. Rang the club and explained the deal and they fixed it up - so I thought. Checking the membership options I worked out the 15yr was an adult concession and not a full paying adult. Rang the club and got that fixed, but was told that all memberships had been paid in full. Explained that I wanted payment plan - was told that it was changed to that payment type. (At this stage I realise that these problems are not just the membership departments fault - but they should have said the 15yr old was a concession membership)

A couple of weeks later I get a phone call from memberships saying there had been a problem with payment - computer glitch so they said, and all payments cancelled and started again. Soon after I got a 'confirmation of membership' type letter from the club - I got one but no-one else in the family did. A week later I rang the club where upon they proceeded to tell me that the because of another 'computer glitch' that when renewing family memberships on-line, only 1 adult membership was actually activated as valid - they fixed this up (It was just luck that I rang the club to see why others falimy members had not got this letter).

Just before Xmas 2008, I get the membership packs in the mail - only to find I have been sent 6 instead of 4 - and 2 were different memberships to what I ordered! Rang the club and they said to send them back - at my expense (wonder how much the club has wasted printing up 2 extra membership cards and added postage?). So I send 2 membership packs back (via express post the next day) with a letter asking that they confirm in writing that I was only paying for 4 memberships, my 4 memberships are valid and activated and that they detail to me in writing how much I have actually been charged (and the payment type) - have heard or seen nothing!

It seems to me that the membership department is made up from temporary casual employees, who have no accountability to the members or the MFC.

In my opinion, if the MFC can't get something as simple as memberships right - then how will they get the on-field football department back to an elite level.

Its been acknowledged in a Herald Sun mini-article today with an apology.

Around 80 members affected apparently. Terrible thats it happened at all, but at least it wasn't in the thousands.

Obviously not ideal, but the club can only have so much control over these things.

Outsourcing is the only financially viable way of doing this sort of thing, to expect anyhting else is unreasonable, whether you realise it or not.

Get a grip guys, please.

Exactly.

So you got St.Kilda merchandise instead, big deal. A simple phone call to the club will get this fixed, and in the meantime you can enjoy burning and destroying Saints stickers/pens/lanyards.

I'm sure the guy packaging this stuff in China doesn't know what a cardinal sin it is to send a Melbourne member merchandise that belong to another club, but for the 5 cents an hour he earns, we can't expect much more.

I rather 80 people get the wrong package (given it gets fixed of course), if it means we can get the packages done cheaply on mass.

Anyone who has ever had to deal with any sort of outsourcing, particularly offshore, will realise that faults is the price you have to pay for getting things done in a cost effective way. This is not the club's fault, and is beyond their control.

do you really think they're packaged in china?

I would've thought its all done here somewhere. I have no idea though, so its likely I'm wrong.

Either way, still an easy mistake to make if you're packaging set after set after set after set after set after set... you'd probably do it with your eyes closed.

Just open up the wrong box after only half-reading the label... hey presto.

(& without trying to be a smartarse -- its 'en masse' rather than 'on mass'. Its french; pronounced the same way though. Learn something new everyday ;) )

What a load of tripe.

Some people think an explanation serves as an apology.

Yeah, they are done here.

Jaded told me she was doing it as a casual job and made a mistake.

Suffice to say she doesn't work there anymore.

I wonder why the packaging gets done on shore, when clearly the crap that gets packaged is made off shore?

That creates double freight costs I would have thought, but supply chain management is not my favourite subject so I'm sure it makes some sense.

A company I do some work for has over the last so many years gone over to getting a lot of its product from China as opposed to manufacturing it here ( though it still does for a lot of its lines, the higher end stuff) . The stuff that arrives from China gets unloaded..unboxed..and checked. ALL of it ...why ?? because they have an amazing penchant for stuffing it up. Sometimes the silliest of typo's etc.. ( omg..some here would have heart attacks !! pmsl )..Sometimes the wrong cover etc. it happens a lot. Its quite normal to expect that ex-China stock will have anywhere up to 20% qc issues.

Thats why most is repackaged here...not all..most !! :)

also would be much cheaper freighting here and re-mailing to individuals from Oz

In their defence, I reckon if I was expected to figure out what went where and the instructions were in Mandarin... it'd be like putting together an Ikea coffee table (yes, i know they are swedish).

I have another tale of woe. I purchased a 2008 MFC rainjacket for the bargain price of only $20 from the Online Megastore last week. My credit card was charged 5 days ago, I also received an email receipt telling me that I would receive my jacket in 2-3 working days..... 15 minutes ago I received this email:

Hi xxxxx,

Unfortunately we have sold out of the item you ordered on the MELBOURNEfc online megastore. We have refunded this purchase.

Kind regards,

Devastating!!!

FYI the online site seems to be run by clubsonline.com.au which is a division of IMG. Anyone who has problems with the online side should report it to the Club so they have visibility of any problem and you would hope that the Club would own the problem, but put it on to clubsonline to fix.

I don't know if it does - none of my last post was factual.
