Red or white, what do you prefer?

Featured Replies

There was such an outcry last year, I think it can only really be the red and blue jumper. If we were having a better season, it may not have been as severe a response.

I was adamant on keeping the team colours, but I really like the white design. I'd be happy to see a combination of both. Hopefully that's being considered as an option.

exactly...everyone was bitching last year because we had no red and blue option and everyone hated both options.

now suddenly, the club has bent over backwards to give us a red and blue design and everyone has decided they like the white one. i feel sorry for the club because everyone is so indecisive.

im pretty sure we'll wear both but the red one will come out on more occasions.

I really like both these jumpers. We'll wear red against Carlton and Port, white against Essendon.

I agree, Red or White depending on the opposition.

White.

The red one looks sloppy.

In the member's email, the club really tries to convince us that white is acceptable:

The History of the White

In the very early days of the Australian game, it was acceptable for players to wear bits and pieces of whatever clothing they had on hand, a sash or ribbon defining their allegiances. Melbourne was one of the first teams to break away from this trend, with the players decking themselves out in white uniforms, consisting of long white trousers and white shirts.

Courtesy of this, the formidable Melbourne outfit of the late 1850s and 1860s became known as the 'Invincible Whites', in what was undoubtedly one of the first – and most impressive – nicknames ever bestowed upon an Australian sporting team.

Personally, though the white does look good as a jumper design, I would much prefer Melbourne to stick to the red and blue.

By the way, the melbournefc.com.au poll currently has 858 votes, and the split is, surprise, 50-50. Just like the last poll...

White looks so much better... and its integral part of OUR heritage.

And like others have said the AIM of a clash jumper is to provide an ALTERNATIVE to the colours the team usually wear.

And white would look great against Freo, Blues and Bombers.

And i reckon people would purchase the the white one instead of the red one...just because its different.

Is it just me or does the white jumper remind anyone of the Western Bulldogs clash jumper?

I can't see any simliarities between Collingwood's and North Melbourne's Jumpers, or Richmond's and Essendon's

Love the white.

The demon really pops out and the colour combination on the neckline and armholes is really modern and different.

Oh well, in the end the AFL gets what it wants.

White here we come. Batman branding (better than 'nothing'). I'm excited weary.

White and when i voted it was 50/50

the voting is hovering from 49/51 to 50/50.( since it started)..... I wonder about our polls... this is how it was last year too !!!! ummmmm ;)

Red

The white one looks like a Bulldogs jumper.

I actually would prefer to see the Red jumper with white shorts instead of blue shorts, which is really similar to the good red jumper we were around 04 05.

In terms of traditional MFC colours, the red one probably but the white one looks much nicer

Completely agree. the red has too much red...

So it's white now is it?

I think the white jumper is clearly the better design.

However, I associate the other jumper more with Melbourne (despite what we wore 100+ years ago).

PS. If we wear a clash jumper versus St. Kilda again while they wear dark shorts and we were white shorts I'll cry. Last year at TD it was the worst 'clash' I've seen in my life, and if we'd worn our traditional top + dark shorts and they wore their traditional top + white shorts it would have been perfect.

That's how I see it. The white design is probably the better one, but I want to see Melbourne stick to the red and blue. Maybe a blue V like the one on the white jumper could be added to the red jumper?

the 50/50 is just utter crap, they had it like that last year, it would be just so people think "wow it's close I better vote" I'd like to see the real figures, if they are even keeping them.

I wonder which jumper we will play in on SAT v Swans. It would have to be the red one otherwise there is a clash. Maybe our home strip will get a go for the 1st time this year

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
