No problem. What are your thoughts ?

I've heard player feedback both positive and negative. Positive in the concept. Negative that there is already too much tennis. If it is a 10 day event I'm sure they could accomodate it and choose their own tournaments throughout the year.

Golf has a World Cup. Nobody cares. This is the same. Who gives a rats about which country is better than which in an individual sport? The Davis Cup only survives because of tradition.

Next thing somebody will suggest team knockout swimming.

Yep- maybe play 3 setters in many cities in Europe- such as Paris, Wimbleton, and maybe another major city.It is so easy to get to each one. The final in a seperate city again. Intersting to note that this is Hird's one suggestion. He has been sitting on it awhile.

Got definate merit- as long as players, say 7 out of top 10 say yes, others will follow. Also spectators will have to think it is brilliant along with television.

Food for thought.

Instead of a World Cup we could have the leading two nations in Australia v USA, we could call it the battle for the Goggles or something. (corny I know).

Actually, I think they've already done something along this concept in Melbourne a year or two back.

What a load of crap-

people want to be the best and gain recognition for it. Look at Cadel Evans - could not get out of his own way in the Tour de France however 2 months later - headlines were-28 Sep 2009 ... Cadel Evans has become Australia's first cycling road-race world champion, winning Sunday's event in Mendrisio, Switzerland.

This has brought him a new team etc.. a very important factor for him..

The World Cup of tennis may never overtake Wimbleton but it would become prestige in its own right.

Day 1 begins

Jason Kubler on now for Australia vs Ivan Ljubicic (24)

Upset on the cards

Sharapova is down 4 1 in the 3rd set

Jelena Dokic and Peter Lucak are both out. No surprises there. Dokic's lead up to the Aussie Open hasn't been the best preparation.

Dokic just crashed and burned ,wasnt interested at all. Lucak played pretty good against Nadal though, good effort there

A record gets broken today, Fabrice Santoro , will be the only ever person to play in a grand slam in 4 consective decades, First played in 1989 and came out of retirement from last year to play to get the record . Has also during his career beaten 17 former number ones

...

Dokic gets down on herself very quickly. She has a temper. It's in the genes.

Lucak did play well in the first set, was with Nadal, but had to win the first set to have any chance. After Nadal took the first, he just went BANG! in the second and pretty much man-handled Lucak on court.

That Santoro record will be one for the records for sometime to come.

he is a strange player, never makes it far into opens but is awesome to watch and holds record for longest match in open era (6hrs 33minutes)

That is an incredible Stat. 4 Decades!!!! That one should stand for quite some time i would reckon

Well done Fabrice.... <_<

Henin-Dementieva = best 2nd round match in tennis history?

And it didn't even go for 3 sets. Would have been immensely epic if it had.

Unfortunately, Henin won though. I still don't like her, but I'm softening I think.

Soften some more titan, because she is my tip. Her & the Fed express for the double... ;)

I'm a big Henin fan, she's looking pretty good.

Tsonga-Almagro. What I saw of that match was awesome. Or, in the words of Henri Laconte, UNBELIEVABLE!

That was a cracker that match...

She is looking very good. She backed it up again against Petrova. Go Henin !

I want her and Gasquet to procreate - the backhand on that offspring could not be looked at with the naked eye for it would be too pure and beautiful.

I think Federer's backhand is mothers milk, pure silk. Henin is the equivalent on the womens side. If they were to procreate I reckon Gillette would just about give up.

Meh, using Federer is like using Bradman in a cricket conversation, basically a truism.

Roger certainly made little Lleyton look pretty Stupid on monday night, he wasn't even puffed out talking to jim Courier post match!

if any one comes close to beating him this year they will need to play almost the perfect game.

He's lost this year already, in straight sets, to the man he plays this afternoon

Yes but that was a mere warm up game. Roger knows when to peak, This is a Slam Tournament, he is beatable but only if the opposition is "on" otherwise they will be dog food.

Most of Roger's opponents don't believe they can win...He has them beaten before the game starts.

Very similiar to the MFC's problems over the last few decades.....

The same man who beat him in the semi finals of the World Tour Masters last season and just took the first set out with two breaks.

This match is far from over, but save the hyperbole.
