Look I don't think Jones is a bad footballer and in hindsight I really was having a bit of a troll ranking him 16th on my talent list.

However.....

How many times have you seen Jones hit a forward lace out?

Don't give me crap how about that's not his specific role. All "A" grade inside midfielders in the modern game e.g. your Sam Mitchell's and Joel Corey's have far superior kicking skills to Jones. If were going to challenge for a premiship he needs to get his kicking up to scratch or either pick up about 20 hard ball gets a game just to justify his position.

I for one more than anyone hopes Jonesy can improve on these deficiencies in his game.

I remember against North this year we were getting smashed of course, could not buy a goal. There was a bounce on our forward 50 line and Jonesy just sharked it from the pack and stuck it on the boot and it sailed through, he knew that was the only way we were getting a goal so he just did it - it was a remarkable goal that went fairly unnoticed in the wash up of yet another horrible thumping. I was sold on him at that moment. The way he digs the ball out is first rate and he is about our only bloke that can do it. He's an absolute gem and will only keep getting better. Also, the side around him will strengthen and then he will really sparkle. You watch, he will fix his disposal and learn the tricks of being an inside mid and he will be one of our premier players for a long time. Star.

No he isn't, he had a 70% efficiency rate this year while doing it all on his own in the packs in the middle. While it isn't a great efficiency rate it obviously can be worked on.

It's funny how people on this site go with the groupthink, one week people were praising him then as a couple of people start bagging him everyone jumps on.

A good example of this was his game against West Coast where he got 30 posessions at 90% efficiency, an outstanding match overall. Then people on this site were bagging him after the match for his bad disposal :o Sometimes i wonder if people actually watch the game and form their own opinions.

after round 2 this year i recall a plethora of posts saying that garland should never play again (when he was hardly in our worst players). footy will always have a mob mentality aspect and while this site is often very insightful, it too is not immune from the odd bandwagon bash. jones will be back in favour soon enough.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
