Demons to Name Pick Number 1 early, good or bad?

Featured Replies

i have a feeling that Naitanui will be wearing the number 4 for the Dees.....

I, like Jaded, have a sinking feeling that the glamour of Naitanui is weighing upon the MFC. Clearly, Watts is the best player. It would be nothing short of a mistake to not take the best player available. But this club doesn't always do things rightly. So I wouldn't be surprised if we took Naitanui tomorrow in the hope that he adds something off-field to the club.

What's that based on? :o

I hope you're wrong.

I know yeah, you like, put so much time into the photoshop pic yeah?

Damn straight.

I'm now comfortable with the notion that we're taking Watts. I'm virtually certain.

He's clearly the best player and talent in the draft. Logic tells me that we simply won't overlook him. Even Scott Clayton said on radio tonight that "no one has ever tested to the levels" of Watts in all facets of the game. When one considers his "sure ball handling, size, speed, agility, and psycho motor testing/decision making". "He's going to be a great player, Jack".

As I said, logic tells me we won't look past him. We're all nervous and the mind plays tricks.

Watts will be in no.4 at the Dees.

Fingers crossed H, fingers crossed  !!!

As I said previously, I wouldn't know who we are getting or wanting for that matter.

However I will just add two points:

First, at the function yesterday Bailey said that he would build this team with the best youth he could get. Watts is regarded by most as the best footballer in the draft and could fill our most needed position FF/CHF. I didn't hear him refer to getting the best marketing player. The Dominator was also quoted on Demonland saying that Wayne Oswald had told him that he didn't fancy spending three years teaching Natanuii how to play football.

Second, I read somewhere a while ago that Watts said his least preferred option would be the West and that he could defer to next year's draft if that looked likely. He has nominated. He was also quoted somewhere as saying that Melbourne was a fine developing club and that if selected by them he would be happy to build his career with them..

Cheers Redleg for those points. That just adds the icing on the cake for me, as to who we'll select. I'm at 99% sure that it will be Watts in the No.4.

Yeah thanks for putting those down Redleg, it does tend to give the impression of us leaning towards Watts......

But I guess we will all just have to bite our nails while we wait and see :P !!!

Isn't Wayne Oswald the guy that bailed on us?

I think a better pointer is the fact that BP said the 'footballer is back', and - as Redleg said - Watts is clearly the better 'footballer'.

Who says Watts is clearly the best player??? I and 99% of people on this forum have not been watching these guys closely over the last 2 years. I trust the MFC to make the right call. I for one wont be having a sook if we pick up NikNat

Most recruiters seem to agree that Watts is the best 'footballer', while 'NikNat' is an athletic 'freak'.

BP's comments last night were along similar lines.

I am fairly sure MFC is just building suspense, here's how I would do it if I were them:

Assuming I was going to pick NikNat:

Knowing all my loyal supporters are 98% keen on Watts I would come out and say we weren't going to take Jack, but still throw in some other names like Rich or Hill as possibilities just to keep everyone guessing. This way you hose down the expectation and the inevitable problem when in 3 years time everyone is watching Watts dominate and asking "why didn't we get him!!"

Assuming I was taking Watts:

I would come out and say I was taking either Watts or NikNat (just for suspense) but then take watts anyway.

lock in Watts

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
