No doubt this will be VERY wrong, but i like phantom drafts...

1-Melb- Jack Watts- best available and fills our needs

2-WCE- Nick Naitanui- next best available

3-Freo- Daniel Rich- Rich, Palmer, Ibbotson and suddenly a weakness looks strong at freoland

4-Port- Tryone Vickory- Lade and Brogan almost gone and also best available

5-Ess- Chris Yarren- best available.

6-Carlt- Michael Hurley- this will add shape to a crap defence.

7-Bris- Sam Bleese- Voss likes what he sees in this kid.

8-Rich- Jack Zeibel- best available. like Morton, flexibility is the way of the future. this kid can do everything

9-Nth- Steele Sidebottom- Good player and next best.

10-Adel- Hamish Hartlett- great SA kid.

11-Pies- Steven Hill- Will add good pace and agility to their midfield

12-Syd- Jackson Trengove- next best KPP.

13-Stk- Lewis Johnson- very good key forward who will be a third tall at afl level

14-WB- Ayce Cordy-F/S

15-Cats- Tom Swift- could be the best of the lot, but 2 knees by 18yrs is a risk... cats will take the risk

16-Hawks- Jordan Lisle- their one weakness is the need for 1 more key defender. this kid is it.

--------------------------------------------------------------

17-Melb- Shaun McKernan- I love the look of him. Adding McKernan and Watts will turn our forward line from our weakness to our strength

18-WCE- Ryan Shoenmakers- looks a really good player.

---------------------------------------------------------------

19-Melb- Mitch Robinson- With so many quality forwards in the first round, this quality midfielder slips to 19. Morton, Jones, Mclean, Grimes, Buckley and Robinson and suddenly our midfield is starting to take shape. A fast zippy midfielder is still lacking but this can be addressed later in the draft.

20-WCE- Neville Jetta- best available small forward imo

21-Freo- Aaron Cornelius- Finnaly someone to help out Pav?

22-Port- Tom Rockliff- good forward

23-Ess- Nick Suban- 2 time AA good half back flanker

24-Freo- Jordan Roughead- Ruckman to replace Warnock

Only guessing after this---------

There are still plenty of quality players left here.

Rhys Okeefe, Clancee Pearce, Michael Walters, Nick Heyne, David Zaharakis, Matt Deboer, Shuey, Beams, Broadbent, Strauss, Lynch, Beams, Brown, Redden...

One of these will be chosen at 35. I think at 35 or 51 we should loook to draft a ruckman. Maybe a guy like Redden

7-Bris- Sam Bleese- Voss likes what he sees in this kid.

Speaking of Voss liking what he sees, what chance the Lions to take Swift at 7? After all it was Voss who said Swift was the best U16 player he'd ever seen.

1 (Melbourne) - Jack Watts. Seems about a 90% chance at this stage

2 (West Coast) - Daniel Rich. Reportedly been after him since day 1 and will help cover the loss of Cousins and Judd in recent years. I expect them to get a ruckman (or 2) with later picks

3 (Fremantle) - Nick Naitanui. Cover the loss of Warnock and he's a home grown boy.

4 (Port Adelaide) - Tyrone Vickery. Arguably best ruckman in the draft and he fills a big need for the Power

5 (Essendon) - Jackson Trengove. Get the feeling they'll take the punt on a 197cm capable of playing anywhere on the ground who has just recovered from a serious hamstring injury

6 (Carlton) - Shaun McKernan. Get the feeling they'll back in Waite and a couple of others for key defenders and recruit McKernan as a ruckman/forward to complement Kruezer and Warnock

7 (Brisbane) - Chris Yarran. Considered by some the most talented player in the draft so if he slips to Brisbane you'd think they'd take him

8 (Richmond) - Hamish Hartlett. Get the feeling they'll look to build a team around their midfield (Foley, Deledio, Cotchin and Hartlett would be a good starting point)

9 (Kangaroos) - Steele Sidebottom. Probably best available and will bolster their midfield

10 (Adelaide) - Lewis Johnstone. Home grown key forward (will they finally find a decent one?)

11 (Collingwood) - Sam Blease. Addresses their need for more leg speed through the middle

12 (Sydney) - Jack Ziebell. Will most likely look to pick up a ready made player which Ziebell seems to be. Wouldn't be surprised if they go with Hurley (provided he gets this far) as a lot of their key position players are 30+ years of age

13 (St Kilda) - Tom Swift. Provided they're willing to take the punt he adds depth to their midfield

14 (Doggies) - Ayce Cordy. Father son selection so a no brainer

15 (Geelong) - Steven Hill. Could do with some more pace through the middle of the ground.

16 (Hawthorn) - Michael Hurley. Could go anywhere between 5 and the second round depending of what clubs make of his lack of foot speed but if he falls this far I can't see the Hawks passing on him. Body is right to step into AFL next year should Croad or Gilham go down and their cluster will aid the fact he relies more on his reading of the play than athletic ability as a defender.

Don't know enough about most of the rest to go any further than that but you could probably guess the type of player each club will be hoping to pick up eg Sydney - key position players/ruckman or players with bodies to go right now

Gee that's a disappointing list of potential draftees. Where are the crap given names of yesteryear?

The likely three top picks are Jack, Nick and Dan! Boring.

At least Ayce, Steele and my personal favourite Clancee(!) fly the flag a little but overall a lack of imagination from the celebrating parents of 1990 or thereabouts IMO.

we need big forwards!!!!!!!!

I agree.... but i'm pathetically obsessed with Tom Swift. If he's still around we have to take him.

Seeing as he won't be, then the 2 above choices would be perfect.

If you're going to make a mistake, make it a tall one.

i concur but swift wont be around!!!

ps... i have a feeling that stephen hill will go earlier than you think....

perhaps in the top 4...... dont know which number though?

if it happens it will put a few recruiting staff into panic mode..... with any luck there will be some confusion in between 5 - 17 which will mean teams might not respond to this and make bad choices leaving some qaulity players behind....

it happens every year.. and there is no doubt picks 5-15 is where the errors/confusion is created

I don't think they actually work like that though. I imagine most clubs just rank the players in order of most desired onwards, & they just go for the player left that is highest on that list.

Once the 2nd round comes along though, their choice is influenced by who they've picked up earlier.

yeh your probably right but im not sure that teams will go for the best available in this draft!!

i think you might find that clubs will go after what they need... (thats what im hoping we do anyway with our first few picks)

i just think that there has been lots of specualtion surrounding the top 20 picks, but dont think anyone can predict how it will pan out.....

you might find mckernan will go in the top ten..... there will be alot of KPP's taken early!!!!

Yeah, good call. With the depleted drafts it will be that much harder to fill a gaping hole.

Which might gift us Swift, as he is really 'just another midfielder'.

Posted
do his injuries concern you?

No because I know nothing about them.

If the club selects him I will trust they have checked him over and deemed his injuries are not that big a risk.

I'm not a doctor or a physio, but i'm of the opinion that knee injuries these days are much easier to treat & recover from than in the past.

I'd be more concerned about microfracture surgery, osteitis pubis or the navicular bone in the foot. These seem to be more career threatening nowadays.

One thing i think people often don't realise is that after a knee reco even though a player is fit, i think it usually takes about a year for them to regain confidence in their body & get back to the form they had before the injury.

who swift?

i think hill might go to freo pick 3

Rich i think you will find has fallen out of favour a bit... his form late in the yr dropped and he got found out in big games!!!!

stephen hill is very very popular in W.A

Strong word is he'll go pick 5 to Essendon

Why is it a "strong word" ? Is it because a West Australian journalist rights an article stating that the Bombers are interested ?
