Really enjoying his efforts this year. Is becoming quite consistant. Whats happened to his kicking though. His accuracy is fine but can`t get the distance inside 50.

I noticed it at training the other day, he`s kicking under the ball and it`s going higher than further. Thought he must have been experimenting at training but he bought it to ther game !

Always has kicked under the ball.

It was a crappy, windy day. And the shots on goal I think you're referring to happened late in the game, when it was raining and the ball was harder to kick. Cast your minds back to the Western Bulldogs game a few rounds ago. Miller was slotting them from all angles that day.

Just be happy with the win.

Go Dees!

More than happy. Thought he played really well. It was happening early and i just thought it odd.

I agree with you mate. I'm a big fan of Brad but he does seem to kick under the footy too much. He has been great this year and has really improved, but i think a little work needs to be done on his kicking from further out.

You're right Biffo. I made comment about his up and under kicking a year or so ago on this forum. At the time I didn't see a real possibly of much improvement. Kicking patterns are really learnt during childhood and teen years. However, I have seen a marked improvement in his kicking penetration this year and he has surprised me. Yesterday it was back to his old style. Maybe the poster who suggested that it was the horrible windy and greasy conditions was right. Any way Miller has given me hope that he will be a useful player for as in the future.

i wish he could kick like that in the other 21 weeks though.

however his kicking has improved out of sight this year. if he wants to be a successful forward he needs to be able to back himself whenever he takes a mark in the 50.

Yep..he could use a littel coaching of fhis foot. Still he's not alone.. far too many players are kicking it way way too high. . This is putting some recipients under the pump without need. Players need to be shown how to kick the ball harder and lower . Of course at other end some players will need to be taught how to mark !!! lol

He still has that problem with handballing to the wrong option, although you can say that for half the team.

Needs to have more confidence kicking the ball around the ground and I think he will do better in a set shot situation.

BTW, jeez, Newton has a good kicking style. Hope he can keep it together for a few games.

Im going to go out on a limb here. . I think some..( empahasis SOME ) of our kicking probs eminate from things not quite going to plan on the pitch. The team, like all , practice drills and plays . Under non-match conditions these work.. Players get to where they are supposed to be.. and the kick, possession, hnadpass, possessionetc all works. As you would expect and hope at practice. Under 'real' conditions it isnt the case. We arent that good yet. A lot of hesitancy comes from these plays not working because players are covered or simply out of position. Im sure a lot of the Wheatley passes are vicitms of this. he seems to be kicking to a certain position..expecting someone to be there.. and they arent..well not in time. So result is it all looks hamfisted. Good teams make it look sublime.. I mean how many times in the past did the Lions just kick to a seemingly vacant clump of grass only to have Lynch mark it etc..

If you cant give off to your first option you are caugth looking a bit flat. This happens to us time and time again. .Arguably Ive noticed an improvement ove the year . This is why we looked so pathetically inept early in year.. especially on back line as handpass drills just didnt morph into real life.

This brings us back to kicking. This up and under [censored] has to be knocked on head. It has its place occasionally in a game.. as some hang time can bring a player into the picture..but in the main it simply creates hospital situations and questions just how much your team mate really likes you !! lol

Kicking lower and more direct ought to make for more siutations where the intended has the ball before him.. and not in a contested play.

Brad green is an offender. On sat he was kicking to people in space but by the time the ball had come out of the clouds they were under the pump.

This of course is not a criticism, merely an observation.

Paul Wheatley`s delivery on sat was awesome.

Yes W Brad played a great game, he`s having a really good year. We`re just constuctively talking about his kicking.

Im going to go out on a limb here. . I think some..( empahasis SOME ) of our kicking probs eminate from things not quite going to plan on the pitch. ...

our disposal was much better yesterday in general, than most of the season. yes teams like geelong and the hawks are highly skilled BUT i think any team that is gettting smashed and low on confidence mis targets and look second rate, while a team that is up and flying hits all the targets. maybe its a mental thing for the players? but while there is obviously a difference between top and bottom, at afl level there should not be that great a difference in the fundamental skills.

regarding brad millers kicking for goal, you wouldnt think kicking for goal would fall in the same category as above. however i have noticed the times that miller has kicked the best have probably games when we were playing well so...

I observed this too regarding Green. He kicks it high and slower. You will notice when he is on the run at pace and kicks, they travel faster because he gives it penetration. However when he just lopes and kicks - or even from standing still from a free kick or after a mark - he doesnt have the penetration and the when the ball is kicked long or higher the ball hangs in the air a bit. Invariably it sometimes enables the opposition to spoil when it reaches its target. Just an observation

Regarding Miller, average game I thought this time littered with clangers (5), gave away 3 free kicks. 14 possessions (4 contested); 7 marks; 1 tackle; 1 Goal 1 Behind. 1 Assist.
