WonnaJurah 5 Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 if anyone can beat geelong this year , it will be an upset one of the best playing sides ive ever seen ,even close tyo rivalling hawks in the 80s i knew we were gonig to get wiped out on this one
Demon16 69 Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 keeping things in perspective a result like this was always on the cards. we are a developing side to begin with let alone the players we had missing, who i need not list as we all know who they are. players that stood out for me were maric, valenti, buckley, junior, pj was ok as was warnock and martin given the constant pressure. oh and jeff white stood out, but for other reasons............
Beamer 1 Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 Not that it would of mattered but tonight We missed Brocks drive in midfield, Rivers' calming influence down back, Robbo's ability to kick a goal just when we need & Moloneys driving kicks - long and direct.

Can't remember Lions or Bombers destroying teams to the extent Geelong can. It's hard to believe there is so much difference between two AFL teams as shown tonight.

But we do forget quickly. Brisbane were awesome at full strength '01-'03. i knew we were gonig to get wiped out on this one I was optimistic all week, until I saw the teams run out tonight. (It was the heart). Geelong just looked so much bigger in their bodies. We missed Brocks drive in midfield, Rivers' calming influence down back, Robbo's ability to kick a goal just when we need & Moloneys driving kicks - long and direct. Exactly my thoughts driving home. And Garland. Warnock disappointed me early tonight, but looked better later in the game.

To be a good defender in the modern age game, you have to have just as good an offensive and rebounding game as your defensive one. Being able to spoil and or hold your man just isnt enough and this is all Warnock's giving us really. To me he plays a lot like Tom Harley and could really develop into a handy key position backman.
leucopogon 1,519 Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 i still think our future is gud with maric valenti aussie morton martin and so on.. keep going boys ur doing a vey good job! go dees I'm really struggling to find any cause for optimism in our up and coming crop of players. Sorry to be a downer but the likes of maric, valenti, aussie, morton and martin just reek to high heaven of mediocrity. We don't have one decent up and coming key position prospect on our list. Not one. Garland is Carrol v2.0, Warnock is Wheatley 2.0, Frawley is Bell 2.0, Morton is Bruce 2.0, Maric is Yze 2.0, martin is Andrew Gaze 2.0, I don't see anything in our under 21 list to get truly excited about.

I have to say, with no offence intended, that those comparisons are pathetic. Garland has already shown in 15 or so games that he has miles more talent than Carroll ever did. He can read the play and had some decent skills too. Warnock is nothing like Wheatley. Maric showed last night that he can play either midfield or in the forward line, and after only 3 games he's already adapting well to AFL standard. How can you be so quick to condemn Maric and Morton? When was the last time you went to a game?

Wallowing MFC supporters, exactly what we need. Your 'downer' is a result of what happened on Friday. Half the team on Friday were not in our best 22, and our 'best 22' is not that great at all, so it's understandable that side got obilterated. Not acceptable, but understandable. What is not understandable is that attitude towards our youngsters. I have seen enough to get excited about Martin, Valenti, Buckley, Dunn, Bate, Jones, Batram, Garland, Petterd, Wonna, Morton, and Maric. And I can't wait to see more of Cheney, Grimes, McNamara, our top 2 pick this draft and our other two top 20 picks. I know that not all will come on, but I struggle to remember such young talent at the club. And if you disagree, then that is your right. But say it after the Brisbane game, and we'd take it more seriously.
