How does everyone see the crop of youngsters coming through. This is based on everything, but ultimately where you think they will end up at the end of their careers (hunches are a justifiable reason)

1. Petterd - the kid is all class. And courage. Shame he hasnt played this year

2. Bate - needs a very solid pre-season and some direction with his footy. On his day very good, but when he's off very ordinary

3. Martin - massive hunch, but moves very well and I really like him.

4. Morton - my only concern is his frame. Yes he will get bigger but will always be slight. Unsure of what role he will play

5. Garland - a very impressive defender for his age, will get better you'd think (but remember Carroll)

6. Jones - I worry about him, endevour never ever questioned, but skill level and general lack of 'polish' doubt he will ever be an A1 midfielder

7. Wonaeamirri - we love what he's done so far but need to keep adding layers to his game. Davey blew us away more more Aussie has and has been found out last few seasons

8. Buckley - has speed and takes the opposition on, but then often doesnt know what to do. Still, havent seen enough yet to conclusively judge

9. Dunn - I feel a limited footballer but it is made of the right stuff to make it at this level and appears to have a future

10. Frawley - I have major concerns. Kicking style is awfully complex and just does not seem to be of the ilk of those taken around him. Time will tell

11. Bartram - See Dunn except I feel even more limited. Has poor decision making, disposal. Similar to Dunn though, has the mental game so may have a future

12. Newton - Hate to say this guy will not make it. Slow and generally not to this level. Will not be the KP forward to take us to a flag

13. Bode - just delist him NOW

The judging criteria has to be a combination of: Games played, B&F performance and Importance to team in 3-5 years.

1. Morton - Silk in the midfield and will damage opposition pushing forward. Could end up a Brad Johnson type as a forward later in his career.

2. Bate - Has red hair, great hands, could be anything.

3. Jones - The next James McDonald. Has some limits but is dependable, will play 200 games.

4. Wonaeamirri - Hopefully becomes a 40-goal a year player, and plays 150 games.

5. Garland - Maybe a Chad Cornes type? Genuine utility who will be used to plug holes in the side, hence will always get a game.

6. Petterd - Will become a solid HB/winger

7. Dunn - Good size and athletic abilities to become anything, but doesn't do enough damage with what he has.

8. Bartram - The next Godfrey. Has the fitness and hardness, ball use lets him down.

9. Martin - Haven't seen enough yet.

10. Newton - Might play 50-odd games and kick 50 goals but will be consistently in and out of the side.

11. Frawley - Major disappointment so far for someone with such big wraps. There is still time but its very hard to see him becoming a KPP.

12. Buckley - Pace to burn, but disposal lacks polish. Potential to be much higher on the list but I see him as a permanent fringe player.

13. Bode - Not up to AFL, probably a good VFL player.

1. Bate - Versatile lead up forward / Midfielder. Pure footballer

2. Petterd - Tough, couragous and good skills

3. Morton - Slight, but should bulk up and has good composure

4. Dunn - Promising forward, even more promising tagger

5. Garland - Surprisingly smart defender

6. Woenamirri - Is good now, can't see him getting much better. Great set shot however

7. Buckley - Fast, good kick, but bad kick when running so fast)You get me?? a bit hard to understand what i wrote. but it does make sense

8. Jones - Tough as nails. Can't kick, can't shake a tag, tries to break to many tackles.

9. Newton - Could be a 70 goal full forward, but i feel he will never reach such heights.

10. Martin - Very early too tell but very impressed so far.

11. Frawley - unco footballer, shouldn't have been drafted so high, is now our 4th or 5th choice backman when all are fit.

12. Bartram - Very fit and hard at it. Can't kick, not damaging, doesn't close down his opponent nearly enough. One year wonder

13. Bode - Supposedly he is fast. Yet i've never seen him run down an opponent or run away from a chaser. Doesn't look like a footballers shoelace.

I still consider McLean, Sylvia, C.Johnson to be juniors to.. I would have them in the top 6

1. Jones- Will be the engine room for years to come. Will adapt and change his game and grow with our midfield.

2. C.Morton- Classy, clever and skilful(yes skilful). Body to develop and decision making and skills under pressure to improve. Big engine and finds the footy.

3. Martin- Athletic, strong big man with heaps of improvement and a good brain under pressure. Could finish up the best of the lot.

4. Petterd- Classy and confident midfielder who finds the footy and is evasive. Heaps of improvement to come.

5. Bate - Strong forward with a big left hoof. Dangerous around goal and on the lead. Finds the footy. Consistency needed with maturity.

6. Garland- Maybe too low here. Athletic and quick, strong mark and good skills with sound decision making. Flexibility a real asset. Can play tall or small. Again could end up a lot closer to the top of this list.

7. Buckley- Hard running flanker who breaks the lines. If skills and defensive game improve he could be a great asset. If not he will be on the fringe.

8. Dunn- Hard running tall who does not play tall and struggles in the air. A handy tagger.

9. Bartram- Quick defensive player currently limited by his skills and dceision making. Can find the footy.

10. Wonaeamirri- Highly skilled evasive player with goal sense. I hope he becomes a champion but I fear that he will find things tough in the next couple of seasons. Hopefully I am wrong and he moves into the midfield and kills them. I suspect that he doesnt have the motor or pace for that role.

11. Frawley- I suspect that he won't make it.

12. Newton- Good high mark but a one trick pony. He struggles when the ball hits the turf. Modern players need more that one string to thier bow. Questionable attitude and workrate. I suspect that he wont make it.

13. Bode- Quick but skills and decision making let him down. Struggles to find the footy and influence game.

1. Bate - Already showed signs.

2. Garland - Key backmen.

3. Petterd - Will be a gun. Versatile.

4. Morton - In 2 years, look out.

5. Buckley - Got pace. Every team needs pace

6. Bartram - Tough, fit, comitted.

7. Jones - Good player, basic game.

8. Dunn - Can play forward or tagger. Will fill holes.

9. Wonaeamirri - Good small forward.

10. Frawley - Athletic and rangy. Will be good.

11. Martin - Good signs. Needs improving still.

12. Bode - Alright backup. Needs to step up in 2009.

13. Newton - Just isnt good enough.

Dappa, why do you have Aussie at second last? Not a fan, or do you think some of the others will kick on better than expected?

I'm not going to rank them individually in descending order, but I think:

Garland, Petterd, Morton, Bate and Wonaeamirri will all end up being great players, with the chance of one or two of them being superstars. The two with the best chance of being stars, for mine, would be Morton and Wonaemirri. Jones is easily the most certain to be a great player, but he also doesnt have the upside of the other five.

Dunn, Frawley, Martin and Buckley should all be handy players, with the chance of one or two of them being great. Dunn is the most likely looking of the three, Buckley the least.

Bartram has a fair chance of making it as a "good ordinary" player, making up one of the bottom five players in the best 22 in a good team. Newton is a rare case- his career could still go in two radically different directions. Bode wont make it as anything more than a depth player.

1. Bate - Good all round skills was rusty at the start of the year but could turn into a match winner like a o'keefe style player.

2. Wonaearirri - Just a freak and so young will be a gun.

3. Petterd - As shown last year good player, hopefully he gets back at the end of the year for confidence leading into next year.

4. Jones - Almost got all his game going but needs to be consisntent either taging or playing as a normal midfielder.

5. Garland - Most improved like the way he goes about it can do it both ends of the field would like to see him forward eventually!

6. Dunn - At 192cm should be playing in the forward line. He's very underrated needs to find a spot to play him.

7. Frawley - I recon he's suited on the HB line not so FB line so he can run and use the ball. also needs a full pre season havent had one yet which will benefit him one to watch in 09.

8. Bartram - Good hard nut will benefit running with the elite players of the comp will be a good on baller in the future.

9. Morton - Too soft for a midfielder/forward only reason he's down so low also poor skills eg richmond game.

10. Newton - Dont no about him yet but if he gets his confidence going in a game he could kick a bag.

11. Buckley - Good runner of the ball, showing some ability.

12. Martin - Only played 3 games god sakes and people have him before garland come on guys seriously you guys have some clue... but otherwise looks quite handy.

13. Bode - Struggles a bit but ya never no....

I think someone like Martin has a unique combination of athleticism, height, strength and pace. IMO he could become a very special player for us, who is unique.

People salivate over NikNat's leap and agility, well Martin has that (to a lesser degree obviously), but he also has the ability to read the play. Having only played a defensive role in football for a year (pretty sure he was used mainly in the ruck prior to 2008), and adapted so well so quickly, his potential for growth and development is incredible and very very exciting.

Garland is another one who is incredibly fast, agile, and has the ability to play back or forward in key position roles, or on smaller opponents if required.

Alot of players have a combination of athleticism, height, strength and pace. I wouldnt even say his that quick. I think your jumping on the Martin bandwagon to early. Hes played 1 very good game, lets not get carried away.
