Just Relax

Relax, take a chill pill. Yes we were rubbish today, but we're young and we're going to have our bad days, even good sides have them (Geelong V Collingwood) With the delistings at the end of the year we'll be the youngest side in the league. We've got a reasonable list, good draft picks coming and a commited board and good coaches. Really, we're bottoming out and you'd better get used to days like today because there's more coming. But at the end is a light and in it are players like Martin, Grimes, Morton, Mclean, Miller, Bate, Buckley and others who are young and are going to be joined by other young guys at the end of the year. And in 3-4 years time we'll be competing again. Looking at those names I reckon everything's ok. So sit back, hand over some money and enjoy the ride. But be prepared for some poor days at the office!

Whilst i agree RI on the chill it doesn't matter how young we are if our skills are clearly the worst in the league and do not look like improving any time soon. One step forward 2 steps back is a tough way to go through a footy season, we need to see signs of continued growth and improvement week to week let alone season to season.

Some one like Bate doesn't seem to have improved on where he has been for the last few seasons. Sort of there, plays a few good to eye catching games but then drops away again.

After the last few weeks I must admit to thinking that we would win today. The reality is that a very young list like ours will perform inconsistently. For example, Aussie has been our most reliable and productive forward. He cannot be expected turn it on every week. He is young. Likewise, Garland, Martin, Morton and even Jones and Bartram. For the past few weeks we have gone OK because they have played with real desperation, not necessarily skill and control. For this season and probably next, we will be teased by great spirited performances and a degree of disappointment. Despite all of this, I am still extremely happy with the direction. Bailey is playing the goers, and by and large, they are doing just that. There is a new mongrel attitude, which I love. I am still very hopeful for the future.

PS. I'm not a big fan of Juice so far. I hope I'm wrong.

Bate and others do seem to play like that I agree but it's because they're youing. They're still learning how to play well week in week out. Our skills will improve over time. DB had them with a ball all through preseason, so I doubt that will change this year. With a bit of age comes experience, strength and confidence. Rushed disposals are replaced with cooler heads and better disposals. Confidence grows and we'll look much much better. By the end of next year we'll see some good footy but we'll still being seeing some poor footy. It takes time.

Deja vu!!!

I disagree with the poster who says that Bate's skills have not improved. His decision making and disposal (maybe not today) are way better.

Away from home, with Bruce our only experienced leader out there today (and yes we all saw how well he led) it wasn't surprising that as soon as they got a bit of a run on and some confidence that they would run over us.

We can't play on that ground (or AAMI) even when we're flying, and with no leaders and dodgy skills after 1/4 time we were always going to struggle.

I saw enough positives to be happy, and enough of the bad to have a pretty good view as to what's wrong with our team and i don't think much of it is chronic.

With age we'll improve a lot, age and proper leadership (something we missed in Green being absent)

Correct. It's why I think we're clearly a less than 50% chance of making finals next season.

It was disappointing to watch - particularly as I missed the first quarter - but not entirely unexpected.

ok

Yesterday Showed How Much we missed Brad Green he has been outstanding this year I was dissappointed in our Midfield yesterday but it is very thin on talent we were terrific in the first quarter gave us a glimpse of what is to come the results would have been different if we had Pav he is a great player

I'm not massively fussed by the loss, it's more the way we just capitulated and every bit of intensity and drive we had in the first quarter was just gone. In saying that our midfield stocks are massively depleted, in his third year Jones is taking the first tag, but the irony is that when he's in his prime it's likely that there be players ahead of him taking that first and second tag. Our defense was worked over time, but the signs a still there that they'll all play a part in our future.

Mostly we lacked leadership, I wonder whether i move for Bails could've been Miller to the wing, just to try to get an enforcer in there. Bruce was MIA, and i would be happy to drop him for Jmac, but it won't happen. We missed Green's ability to steady the ship and move all over the ground.

Ultimately it was a reminder as to where we are, still very young and lot's more developing to do.

I am hoping 2-3 years time we'll be competing for the finals (position 5-9) at this time of the year.

And in 3-4 years I hope to be competing for a premiership. Positions 5-9 are no longer good enough
