IWAP 170 Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Does anyone know if we are still linked with this youngster (from the NSW scholarship program)? He should be eligible for the draft this year if memory serves me correct Quote
Pinball Wizard 374 Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Does anyone know if we are still linked with this youngster (from the NSW scholarship program)? He should be eligible for the draft this year if memory serves me correct I don't think Melbourne embraced the whole NSW scholarship thing under CAC and now that there's going to be another team in Sydney I doubt whether it's going to last much longer. Some other clubs already have NSW players on their lists while others have players who are doing well at the Under 18 championships. It looks like another area like overseas recruiting where we've missed the boat because we don't have the finances, the imagination or both to get involved. Quote

He appears to be playing seniors in the Sydney AFL Comp. http://www.sportingpulse.com/team_info.cgi...ews_task=DETAIL http://www.sportingpulse.com/club_info.cgi...sectionID=68141 http://www.sportingpulse.com/club_info.cgi...sectionID=68141 Quote
torpedo 33 Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Article in today's Age on the NSW / ACT U18s: http://www.realfooty.com.au/news/news/youn...0444439215.html Doesn't mention Teddy Strudwick however lists him as our only NSW Scholarship player, as opposed to other clubs who have up to 4, a couple of famous footy names in there too. He is listed as being part of the NSW / ACT U18s squad: http://www.sportingpulse.com/assoc_page.cg...sectionID=54973 Good to hear they got through to the Div 1 playoffs, hopefully some reports on him become available after those games. Pinball Wizard 374 Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 NSW/ACT SCHOLARSHIP-HOLDERS Adelaide: Sam Martyn Bris Lions: James Brain, Jack Lawson Collingwood: Scott Reed, Nick Perry, Thomas Young Carlton: Joshua Fenaroli, Jake Pianta Essendon: Benjamin Simon, James Webster Fremantle: Matthew Long, Max Wilson Geelong: Kale Temple, Ranga Ediriwickrama Hawthorn: Michael Johnston, William Sierakowski, Trent Stubbs, Thomas Kickett Melbourne: Teddy Strudwick Port Adelaide: Jordan Johns N Melb: Lachlan Pryor Richmond: Harrison Lee St Kilda: Joshua Duncan, Kane Murphy, Blake McGrath Sydney: Ryan Bottin-Noonan, Jay Lewis, Matt May West Coast: Anthony Stubbs Western Bulldogs: Braedon Jones, Chris Ogle, Daniel Lloyd I notice that we are one of the few clubs that has only one scholarship holder on its books and that Strudwick didn't even make the cut off for the NSW team for the championships. Another good example of our recruiting capabilities over the past few years. Quote
Left Field 313 Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Given pretty much everyone will have silky skills, I think Teddy will struggle with the physicality of the game at senior level. Also, I have watched these players following for years at junior level up here and offer the following: Will probably make it on to a list: Scott Reed (Coll) Very fast, good aerobically, probably tall enough by now and has a great vertical leap. Question mark over kicking accuracy. Ranga Ediwickerama (Geelong) Ball magnet midfielder who always gets to the right place. Good skills and very good athlete. Could make it on to a list: James Brain (BL) fearless and hard at it, good skills. Footballer more than athlete. Josh Duncan (St Kilda) ditto above. Inside midfielder from Pennant Hills. Max Wilson (Freo) big basketball convert. Will need to be super big to make it. Trent Stubbs (Haw) Good athlete and good body shape. Of the others, either I have not seen them or they will have to work very hard to make it on to an AFL list. Some of the next generation to look out for (currently U15): Jackson Potter - as good if not better than Keiran Jack or Jarrod McVeigh at the same age (ironically, they all come from Pennant Hills AFC). Aaron Duncan - plays outside more than his brother but teams very well with Potter. Damon Steer - has a good footy brain and developing well athletically. Will need to find a yard. Rory Pryor - a massive unit with terrific skills. Just my opinion. Quote
