As part of a fresh 2020 campaign (following a solid, injury-free preseason, smart recruitment, delistings, and devising an ACTUAL gameplan), we need a new captain. One, not two. And preferably not Viney. I like him, but he's been off the boil for a long time, and Jones won't/shouldn't be around much longer. We need leadership. We need goals kicked when they count, tackles that can't be broken, and vision. We need somebody to lead the group, and show the rest that there is a standard and it won't be compromised. Who do give the role to? I think Maxxy would be great, but I also worry that it might be too distracting for him, he already does so much.

Date: Thursday 20th July Time: 9.45am Location: Goschs Paddock Tests for Viney, Watts, Salem and Tyson... and Jonesy only 1-2 weeks away, possibly joining in the full session. Most important training session of the season, for sure. Hopefully we have some eyes on the ground with updates and that all those 'tests' can get through and face Port.

I didn't like the idea of Jack being made Co Captain, didn't think he was ready. I was wrong and am happy to fatten up with lots of pie mmmmmm i still don't partcularly like Co Captaincy but that has nothing to do with his Leadership Qualities. Jack actually became a far better player with Jones not there!!

Watched a bit of this online last year and it's only gotten funnier this year. Absolutely leaves most current Australian comedy for dead, plus it's all footy. Thankfully the dees aren't too much the butt of the joke this week. http://m.afl.com.au/fridayfrontbar

Interesting selections. I'm surprised to see Garland still in there, but it shows how much he does behind the scenes I suppose. Massive rap for Gawn to be in there, he has taken huge strides this year (figuratively).

The Hulk put out this tweet earlier: Anyone up for a kick in the park tomorrow? Thinking Yarra Park at 5.30. @jackviney7 surely you’re in? Viney responded: I'm keen! Would be great to get some more numbers there. Come down and get around it. See you then big fella Tons of supporters/followers are getting on board. Doesn't seem official, but either way it's a good idea from our players to build a bit of excitement around the club. Or maybe it was the clubs idea and got the players to orchestrate it on social media... https://twitter.com/jesseBhogan/status/664365971738529792 https://twitter.com/jackviney7/status/664377382871023616

In case anyone missed it ... Dees clear about Draft In this pre-draft Q&A, Todd Viney discusses the criteria the club uses for selecting players - the 4 pillars of talent identification: competitiveness football talent physical attributes character Worth a read, if you haven't yet.

Why is Todd Viney our General Manager of Player Development and Strategy? How does it make sense to put him in charge of draft selections when the biggest decision to make this year will be if and when to draft his son? It is liking asking a surgeon to operate on his or her own child. We should already have appointed someone else to this role, even on a temporary basis. It is not fair on Todd. It is not fair on Jack. Most importantly, it is not fair on the club.

What about this scenario re the Jack Viney draft scenario: We trade away our first round pick for a quality mid, our compo picks cant be used for father/son draft, we pick up Jack in the 2nd round Any thoughts ???

Like last year, the Casey Scorpions will take on Geelong VFL at Simonds Stadium on Saturday in the curtain raiser to the Geelong v Melbourne game. Unlike last year, when the VFL Cats were the underdogs and won by 128 points in an ominous preview of the later game, this year they will start as favourites. And seating will be hard to get for the Casey folk according to the VFL website. Due to the redevelopment of Simonds Stadium (involving the Doug Wade Stand and the Southern Terrace), a large number of reserved seats at the Stadium have been lost. As a result, this has had an impact on the entry details for VFL curtain raiser matches. VFL Club supporters and general public will be required to pre-book general admission standing room entry or a daily reserved seat prior to the match to guarantee their entry on match-day. Please see the information below about Peter Jackson VFL games that will be influenced. Please note: VFL Passes and Club Memberships WILL NOT give you access to Simonds Stadium for these games. All supporters must book a ticket through Ticketmaster. I'll be back tomorrow night with the VFL teams. The Development League team has its second bye of the season this weekend (the first was just three weeks ago).
