Yes not sure how you judge Leigh Brown. The big forewards were injured forever, the mid sized forwards have been moved all over the park, to be on ballers, who knows. And when occasionally the ball gets driven into the forward line we often saw that there is no one there! Oh well that is the game.

HOWE snubbed for mark of the year.
Earl Hood replied to Bombay Airconditioning's topic in Melbourne Demons
To me it is a no contest Howes mark against West Coast is just amazing. The degree of difficulty is a 9.8. Have we ever seen anyone running with the flight of the ball jump as high over a 6.3 ft player to take a screamer. I can't remember one like tha but yes Elliot's is spectacular but a 6.8. Shultz mark is spectacular but really look at the camera angles it was so far over the line it was a joke. But it is all about how spectacular it looks not about degree of difficulty. -
Yes Aaron had X factor big time at his peak and he is the only recruit since 2000 that has had it with the exception of Jurrah. In the 90's we had them in spades with no discipline, poor culture and no facilities but at least we could spot talent. What has happened since, I have no idea, maybe our emphasis on athletes over footballers has been a factor. Of course we also don't like naughty boys either, do we.

Hey Big Frog give me a break. How do you think I go trying to convince the family to follow the Dees these days when the Hawks just keep on playing finals? Short answer no frigging hope and unfortunately this is being replicated in many households and will bury the club if we don't turn it around ASAP.

Sorry I have not read all the posts but I would be happy with a white clash jumper with that menacing demon face. I loved that demon face as our emblem. We had it on our scarf as well. I don't mind the shield but that demond face had some scary value. Can we get back to the white clash guernsey with the demond face to reflect our change in where we want to go ? In addition my wife a Hawks supporter noted that the Swans big boys, Tippett, Mumford look imposing in their white jumpers! So the colour only inhances our muscles, if we have any.

THE DRAFT: TAC CUP FUTURE STARS ROLLING DRAFT
Earl Hood replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I worry that we won't even be in the first round of the draft. Roos is talking up the need for ready made players now I.e. we are offering number 2 for an established mid fielder. If we snaffle a top liner through free agency or we trade a big for a mid or we get a priority pick we may be chance to look at Luke. But I agree, depending on who we get prior to the draft, I go for the leader, hard nut. You don't need dozens of them but you need two or three and once you have them in place you can look at the highly skilled outsiders. Unfortunately we worked the other way, we looked for the fast running, lightly framed outsiders first, sprinkled with some lightly framed tall forwards. The rest will happen trust me. That is history. I hope we have learnt something. -
I would have been happy for a number of our guys to have a weight problem down the track, a la Morton, Gysbert, Blease, Watts, Cook, and more. As a general rule I would be drafting kids who are physically ready to go from day one. They are not carrying chronic problems at draft time suh as OP. Anyway we know it is all about player development. Boy Hinkley sure put some development into Wines inside three months. I was at the first match at the Gee and the first bounce when he grabbed the ball and rooster it forward. We had been training at elite levels for months but got absolutely pumped by the Power. I just think we made yet another poor choice considering the position we are in. Toumpas yes when you are on the rise, Wines when you are floundering on the bottom.

God I hope you are right.

Yes an article today talked about a 12000 member lose over two years! I thought we had gone from 37,000 down to 33,000. That is an amazing stemming of the tide in my opinion. And I think PJ and Roos will move this number forward. The future is up.

Casey Scorpions v Werribee Tigers - VFL First Semi Final
Earl Hood replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
So we let Clisby take three matches for being in the vicinity of a popped shoulder without contesting because we did not want to jeopardise his chances to play finals, didn't we? I give up trying to work out the logic. Oh maybe he has picked up a calf strain in his time off like Davis, Magner and any number of others in recent weeks. Boy some of our guys are fragile. -
My sister was lamenting some months ago what had she done wrong to be a Demon supporter, a Labour voter and a staunch member of the Catholic Church? She has walked out of the Church, can't stand Abbott and is holding fast with the Dees.

Hmmm it seems that the bullshyte election advertising has disappeared. Thank you to whoever. Glad to get back to the usual "singles living near you and just waiting for a call!" Brian Loughnan can go and get st&ffed!!
-
Is he over his suspension, three weeks for being in the vicinity of someone popping his shoulder? We did not contest because we did not want him getting more weeks so he could play VFL finals. Let us hope he is playing this week!

Do not disagree. But I look at the 90's and wonder how we did not snaffle a cup. We had the list, the talent but we struggled with injuries at the wrong time, example The Ox, our favourite, A Jackovich, Sean Charles, Glenn Lovett, Tingay and Lyon who had played his best football at 25! Yes we had bad luck when we needed some good luck but as I remember it we often set ourselves up for glory and then would lose a succession of games to put us back in the lower end of the finals contenders, never top two, from which we could have won. The common problem was and still is lack of on field leadership. It was then left to too few. We would lose Danny Hughes and the back line would fail or we would lose the Ox and the side would shutdown. Oh for a J Selwood or a Ronald Dale for that matter.

Gee I wouldn't mind a fast leading half forward who can bag 60 to 70 goals a year and a gifted half back/half forward/wing/midfielder who used to accumulate 30 odd possessions per game at his best. They both had their faults but they had talent in spades that I just don't see in this group. P.S. Not Happy with the bullshyte advertising I keep seeing here. Seems there is no escape from this campaign!!

I hope it turns out to be joke, yes. But the questions are ligit. He is not the Messiah, nothing is guaranteed. Good heavens we have been here back in 09/10 when we thought early draft picks would deliver success on a plate with no hard work required. The fact is you need a lot of luck to go with a lot of hard work. Roosy is a thinker and observer of the game so I think he is still up with the modern game. Not that it's that complicated is it? If we have the ball run and spread, if they get it, pick up an opponent pronto and harass as much as you can to get a turn over, should it be anymore complicated than that for us in the new coaches first year?

Not sure why we are sending Flash on his way. And from some discussions last week it seems it wasn't necessarily his decision. I would have offered him another year myself. He has played his best football we know that but he can still hit a target, tackle and intercept an opposition play and deliver to a team mate. He still seems to be the only player on our list with some fast twitch fibres in his muscles! I look at the second quarter today and the young doggies in the middle are moving at twice the speed of our blokes, it is quite astonishing how far off the mark our on ballers are. Individually they may have some abilities but as a unit they stink.
-
Yes kicked four but he went less than full bore at a couple contests that I saw. And in contests against bigger opponents when he was not on the break he looked lost. It is interesting what his future will be. In a top side he would get a lot of delivery out in front of him. And his conversion is top 10. Imagine if Cloke had his conversion rate. However if he was playing for the Hawks or Sydney or say Geelong he would also have to play 10 or so high intensity games against the other high performance teams and I really think he would struggle with the physical intensity of those types of matches.
-
Yes fingers crossed with a full pre-season he should come on next year. Today I watched him at times and he did some good things and some poor things but generally he looked stuffed after half time. I personally reckon he needs more fitness and should have played the final at Casey but I don't want to start that argument up again!!
-
Yes I look at his highlights reel on the MFC web site and gee I had forgotten how good Davey was. Injury has taken its toll no doubt but he also struggled with the hard tag and in later years on getting his own ball. But in a good team he would have been protected more and players would have got the ball to him to use. I wonder how Rioli or Motlop would go with us. I suspect they might struggle somewhat, being tagged and trying to make something out of 30 odd inside inside 50s that come in high and slow from the wing. Davey was the icing on the cake when we were a good side circa 2004 to 2006.

Hmmm I'm too classy for Warney. My man Parker drives me around in a roller you know. I'm a cut above Liz Hurley I think.

Hi what do you think about me?

No there aren't any facts actually just a 50/50 comment but that's enough to get the media going and everyone else.
