  1. I am astounded how the smother action is so front and centre in the discussion, especially by former “Old Guard”footballers. All the precedents thrown up by the Old Guard about footy actions often involve a footy in dispute, a marking contest, a collision of players hunting a bouncing ball. In this case we have a ball carrier being taken out at high speed, front on by a player who made a bee line for him. It’s a front on charge. Forget the jump in the air that is only relevant in that it made the collision worse, it does not excuse the result. Let us be honest it was a case of White Line Fever, three minutes into a do or die final, gone astray with dire consequences for Brayshaw. Maynard failed to show a duty of care for his opponent in this case. No doubt the lawyers will differ.
  2. The side angle shows it was an old fashioned front on charge with a leap in the air that made it even worse. If Brayshaw hadn’t kicked the ball a collision would have still happened without the leap.
  3. If you read my post properly you would realise I am not saying thatđŸ€”.
  4. The forward cupboard is basically bare. And from my memory most Premiership clubs have a full list to choose from in their finals run. Our Cup chances have been falling away with every injury through the season, first it was TMac, then Brown, Fritsch, then Petty, Melksham, Brayshaw, now JVR suspended.
  5. I think I heard on Ch 7 that Harmes was injured in a seconds scratch match played this afternoon at Princess Park. We can’t take a trick.
  6. The side vision is telling and brutal with Maynard travelling at full speed toward Brayshaw. If Brayshaw had fumbled and not got the kick away, I am sure Maynard would have just continued on, colliding with Angus. We know what the intention was. The days of white line fever play are over. It was careless conduct so must wear the consequences. For some reason it has taken all day for the MRO to handball it to the tribunal where I am sure the lawyers will get him off.

  8. I thought Petty was injuredđŸ€Ș?
  9. Yes the Hawks were very quick in the first half by foot and ball movement, made us look very cumbersome at times. I think we will need to draft/ trade in some serious leg speed at the end of the year to stay in contention in coming years.

Mind boggling stuff. I was at the Melbourne game behind the goals but upstairs and the noise levels were off the chart with that ball coming in. And how many decibels does a ball supposedly glancing off your passive right hand as the ball missed Marchbank’s active left hand? Surely the goal umpires should be trained to call it a goal unless they clearly see a deviation of the ball. If they have any doubts ask for a review to clarify. But then the technology deployed at present is deficient.
  13. The team is not tall enough!
  14. They then fax the result of the review through to the announcer I believe. The wonders of modern technology.

  16. Yes I have noticed goal umpires calling touched when they could only be guessing. Unless you see the ball deviate or hear a slap it used to be assumed to be a goal. A few weeks ago one of the umps called touched from a snap 25 m out from goal. The review played back and forth on whether someone’s finger moved. I mean there was no way the ump would be knowing from that distance. Are they tending to guess now because they have the video review?

  22. What’s going on at centre bounces? Zero pressure on the ball carrier, Max tapping backward when we have 3 guys forward of him. Set shots killing us but we need to apply a lot more pressure right across the ground.

Dissent is back but insufficient attempt to keep the ball in play is dead for this game at least if it involves Collingwood.
