  1. FWIW Morton's disposal by hand and foot is still loose. His handball is loopy and his kicking is really suspect if he doesn't have time to balance. Little floaty chip passes or 35 metre passes that float over the target's head. I'm still not convinced he is in the best 22 by any stretch. He also had trouble gathering the ball. His hands don't seem strong.
  2. Wash your mouth out!
  3. I'd go as far to say that he is possibly a freakin' freakin' freak.
  4. We have our own Jimmy Bartel now. Trengove just does the right thing all the time. He's not quick, but he's always there. Can take a grab too....just quietly. I too love this boy................not that there's anything wrong with that.
  5. Maybe we should recruit on the basis of whether the player's name is Jordie, Jack or Tom. In Gysberts and McKenzie we have two of our very own "Junkyard Dogs". I love them.............. In a manly sort of way.............not that there's anything wrong with that.
  6. He lacked match fitness last week but boy, he is back!
  7. I hope Petterd takes note, but I also want him back in the team as soon as possible and playing like we know he can play. He has had a couple of absolute shockers but he has been a fantastically creative forward and I would like to see him back for the Collingwood game (Casey form permitting).
  8. We could see from DB's interview after the game where he reverted to his deadpan delivery that this is his method of dealing with the media, not what goes down in the club rooms. I like his inscrutability. I just wish all the naysayers would get off his back.
  9. You've been watching Dean Bailey too much. A masterpiece of understatment.
  10. The "Bruise-Free football" slur is a very timely bonus for us. Coaches often attempt to create these things to motivate their own players but Carlton has done it for us. The Notion that we are soft would rankle with most of the players and won't sit well with most of the hard nuts we have. And we DO have some. Bartram Jones Moloney Frawley Rivers Trengove MacDaonald Tapscott Evans Bail Scully Jetta Grimes McKenzie Jamar Sylvia Gysberts They are all 'head over the ball' footballers. They have the opportunity to change the culture and this could be the catalyst and the beginning of a new era. Geelong was known for its inconsistency and pretty boy football. they were also the team that you never put money on to win or lose because they would let you down. They now have the most solid team ethic of recent history. Things can change.
  11. Why don't you all get off his effin case!
  12. We must be in football "Bizarro World".
  13. Maric's problem is not his kicking, its his ability to act quickly when he's got the ball. So often he keeps his head down, doesn't look broadly for options, tries to run around the opposition and then runs backwards eventually having to dispose under pressure. He looks like a rabbit in the headlights. He is also pretty useless overhead. I don't know if he can learn to rectify these things but I hope so. He does look good when there is nobody between him and the goals. Then he looks like he knows what to do.
  14. What makes people think that Viney wants to be senior coach? Also, wouldn't it just be a tiny bit awkward having your son playing in a team where you are coach. Yes, I know it happened with Andrew and Lindsay Gaze but they were different times.
  15. What do you call Tappy then?
  16. While its probably not cool to quote myself, I commented on this inability of Morton on the "Should we trade Morton" thread. "We believed the wraps that came with him when he was drafted. "Elite kick", "Silky smooth", "Dominating at TAC level", etc. The year he dominated the TAC carnival he was in a fantastic WA team that dominated. He was able to receive a lot of ball in space and had time to execute. He was also very tall in that company and could mark well. The biggest problem with Morton, apart from his distaste for the physical contest, is his inability to dispose of the ball accurately unless he is out on his own and has time to balance himself. His kicking technique is flawed. There is a long ball drop and then he attempts to "shape" the kick using his foot. This technique has a high chance of failing under pressure situations and we see this with Cale regularly. Its very frustrating to watch. I can't see him correcting this and reckon we should trade him if we can get a good deal." And in relation to Chip, when he stuffs up like that he curses himself. You can see that he is always about improving his performance. The improvement he has shown over the past two years is testament to this. He will look at those instances and make sure they don't happen again.

Two in particular, Rioli and Dangerfield. YEEESH!!!!
  18. What planet are you on?
  19. Here here
  20. Thanks for the reassurance Rudeboy. He would be a huge loss to footy let alone MFC if he was to go. BTW it almost appears that you have more love for the Dees than Collingwood atm. I posted a while back that you should be made an honorary Demon after you help in looking after LJ. He really is a rare gem.
  21. People here are forgetting how well Davey played throught our most recent dark years. He is no front runner, he is just down on confidence and form. Bailey said many times that he wished he had three or four Davey's because he is such a class player. All of those who are bagging him now will jump back on board when he has another purple patch, and he will.
  22. I'm pretty certain that MFC's recent poor form can be tracked to the covert operations of a secret cell within the CIA. Similar to the one in the Bourne series of movies. They have also been responsible Billy Brownless's mysterious hair.
  23. I thought Juice might be looked at as well. The bump that brought Pratt down involved some head contact.
  24. Jimmy Stynes was not a 'natural footballer'. He was a brilliant athlete, Gaelic footballer and fiercely determined. He became a great footballer. There are many players throughout history who were not natural footballers but athletes who adapted. Martin was a good basketballer. He definitely has the athletic ability. He needs to work on his kicking as well.
  25. In the grey gloom following another horrible performance at our Bermuda triangle, "Darklands", I am trying to see any positives. It is easy to sink into the mire. Two serious injuries and performances by people like Dunn and others that make us think that our list is ordinary and we have a culture problem at the club. We probably have had a culture problem. Players who were pleased with themselves too easily and accepted mediocrity and inconsistency. I do think this is changing but will take time. I don't see the new core following that credo. Tapscott, Trengove, Scully, Mckenzie, Garland, Frawley etc. are a new breed under a new regime. It will take time but it is happening. Hang in there. On another brighter note I was quite impressed with aspects of Martin's game yesterday. He has a great spring and often got first hands to the ball. His second efforts were fantastic. What was very obvious was the difference in the quality of his tap work. He misdirected so many. He swatted the ball away with some force but often to the advantage of the opposition rather than palming it. The Jamar - Moloney approach was not going to work with Martin in the ruck. Therefore I thought before the game that they should experiment with the Jeff White approach of belting the ball as far forward as possible and set up the mids to take advantage of this. This is still an option, although it does rely on the ruck getting first hit. It ca't be used every time either or the opposition will just counter it. I do hope they have Jamar tutoring Martin for the next few weeks but I know this sort of skill takes years to perfect. Martin is worth persisting with and hopefully one day will be a good alternative. He has so many physical attributes to make him a good player. Speed, strength, athleticism and great below his knees.
