How well was Garland playing before he was selected?

A lazy 5 to Juice as Zebras win again
Demon Head replied to Beach Road Bazza's topic in Melbourne Demons
Do I dare say that had Juice played at the MCG today then there's a possibility that his accurate kicking might have had an influence on the result? -
How often do they line up as named these days? Newton was selected on a hbf last week but started up forward and kicked 6 goals. Do yo want to go figure?

Godders is a tireless worker who's all heart and I agree he was among our best which puts some of his more skillful teammates to shame.

JVM's Match Preview - Melbourne v Geelong
Demon Head replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Thanks for being so generous in your assessment. -
Congratulations to the Zebras on their 3 flags in a row and their successful start to 2007. Hopefully, the Dees can break the ice on the same weekend and go on to have the same success as their VFL sister club.

I'm 33. Does that make me an oldie and if so, does that automatically make me smarter than anyone else around here? I agree with WJ and CARN THE DEES. Age has nothing to do whether you're smart or not and anyone who says otherwise is a snob.

I remember both of you very fondly JF. My mates really admired you and Ted because, unlike a few of your teammates, you wouldn't take shyzen from anybody. I don't know what it is that the Biffinator said but one poster isn't representative of all of us at Demonland so please don't take it to heart. I'd be interested to know which MFC past and present players visit and post here.

For the trolls at Saintsational who have been logging in here for a bit of fun, Michael Gardiner displayed very much the same form as he has over the past couple of years at WCE, Max Hudghton was beaten on points by a 19 year old called Michael Newton and Armitage couldn't even hold his own against 174 cm Valenti. Barry Brooks took a nice marke and kicked a goal early, flew home to King Island for a couple of quarters and was back to get his next possession in the last. The 2005 John Beveridge recruiting coup James Gwilt kept Nick Sautner goalless in the first half and was then taught an absolute lesson by Sauts who inished with five goals. The umpiring was as bad as it was on Friday night but the Scorps didn't quite manage to snaffle 28 frees to 17 or get five goals from gift frees so they lost by six goals.

This is a partly a drug thread and it was made so by Jonathan Hay when he raised the point in the interview. No one is questioning that he should have a proper rehabilitation and good luck to him in that regard but everyone's allowed to voice their opinion, even you and you've made your point.

A swag of St. Kilda players went around today for the Casey Scorpions and all reported fit at the end of the game. Koschitzke kicked 3, Hayes played a half and did OK (didn't even get reported this week), Thompson, Hudghton, Voss, Fisher and Maguire all got through although not full games. It's probably a bit of a risk to play all of them plus Riewoldt on Friday night but who knows? Also Fremantle's Robert Haddrill broke down with a knee injury in a club game in Perth and could need a reco. Its already been a bad year for knees and the season hasn't even started.

Daniel Kerr's alleged phone call with drug dealer?
Demon Head replied to Yze_Magic's topic in Melbourne Demons
Geez, I can't wait for the footy to start! -
It's a question I've been asking for some time. Is there more room for improvement in Aaron Davey?

Russell Tyrone Jones (November 15, 1968 – November 13, 2004) was an American rapper known by the stage name Ol' Dirty Bastard (often shortened to ODB by mainstream media). He was one of the founding members of the hip hop group Wu-Tang Clan. I have no idea what [censored] Pratt or the Queensland Senate have to do with him. Perhaps it's not the same Russell Jones? Perhaps it's the one mentioned in this article - NO EASY OPTION FOR REGULATOR ON CARTELS

Just on the team's fade out in the latter part of the game, I heard Hawthorn's Ben Dixon on SEN on Saturday afternoon and he mentioned that the Hawks had already had four or five full blown hit outs in preparation for the NAB Cup. If you contrast that with Melbourne's preparation of - (i) Practice match at Wangaratta cancelled because of the unsuitability of the ground, (ii) Practice simulation at Moorabbin reduced to a couple of short halves due to extreme heat and (iii) Practice match at Telstra Dome on the Tuesday before the game consisting of 4 x 12 minute quarters. While you can train all summer under an athletic coach and do all sorts of practice and simulation, there's nothing like real match pressure to prepare you for a hard physical and mental contest. We were always going to run out of puff against a well prepared team that struck a rich vein scoring a couple of nine pointers before three quarter time but for which we might well have held on and won the game.

Does Campbell Brown's 2 week suspension put him out of the game against Melbourne in round 2 or does he serve it during the Nab Cup?
-
Watched both games through the magic of having Foxtel digital IQ and the standard of the game in Adelaide was susbstantially higher than the one at Carrara. Both Burgoynes were good for Port Adelaide, as was Kaine Cornes. In the other game Daniel Wells was good for the Kangaroos and so was newcomer Lindsay Thomas and my highlight was the female goal umpire who made watching an otherwise ordinary game worthwhile. After seeing that performance I would suggest that Collingwood supporters should stop making ski jokes about Melbourne fans because some of their own players put in some excellent displays of downhill skiing.

How do you support the proposition that Melbourne's list is young? Statistically, we have a list that's close to the oldest in the competition. We do have some very good young players who will be improvers but most of the other clubs have more good young players with potential than we have. I think it would be more correct to say that we have some good young players whose development will improve us as a club in 2007 but in the medium term we have some rebuilding to do. But what happens if the careers of all of our 30 year plus players end at roughly the same time? Are we going to face a dliemma then in that we have too many holes in our list to fill in a short space of time?

So far only Goodwin and Ward have been named.

Just being technical here but he's not officially the captain until it's announced on Sunday at the Family Day. Still, I'd be happy to take bets about his appointment and I agree he's looking bloody good.

Not quite "20 years ago today" because it just doesn't feel like September at the moment although I do get your drift. We haven't been as bad the last 20 years as we were for the 20 previous yeasr but enough's enough. And yes, I was at the Western Oval that day and yes, I was listening to the Hawthorn v Geelong game and I'll forever be grateful for what Jason Dunstall did for us that day. I also remember being at Victoria Park more than 30 years ago now and will never forget how the scum cheered when the news came through that the Bulldogs and Blues had drawn and we were deprived of a finals' spot.

Has anybody worked out the difference between a "match simulation session" and a "practice match" and what's it going to be on Tuesday at Tesltra Dome?
-
We have 11 players or a quarter of our playing list who have yet to play a game of AFL football (I'm not counting Nab Cup or pre season practice games). I decided to make this list of the players in order of their likelihood to make debut first:- 1. James Frawley 2. Simon Buckley 3. Michael Newton 4. Ricky Petterd 5. Shane Neaves 6. Colin Garland 7. Daniel Hughes 8. Isaac Weetra 9. Heath Neville 10. Jace Bode 11. Daniel Hayes

Wrong. It was on at 5.45. The Ox said there will be an announcement of his re-appointment as skipper at the Family Day on Sunday. Neita rated the club's pre-season at 100% (the only club representative to do so). Impressed with Jonesy and Bizzell in the pre season but basically said everyone's fit and flying.

I noticed on another thread that Sandringham doesn't start playing practice matches until 11 March. What happens to the players on our list who don't get picked in the Nab Cup game on Sunday week and the following week? Do they get to play in a practice match?
