  1. Jack also still wouldn't be on the list if it wasn't for his draft position. It works both ways. The club didn't hesitate with Toumpas this year and won't next year with him unless he changes the way he plays. He has taken the term outside to a whole new level. People blame his development but he is one of our most skilled and his understanding of the game is right up there. To be fair he had that before he arrived. He failure to impact contacts solely rests with him. In 2016 he is playing for his future in the game, not just with us.
  2. The "no interest from other clubs during the trade period" could well be his last wake up call. 2016 could be his last year in the game and if that's the case he only has himself to blame.
  3. The scary thing is how much money falls under the "emergency/depth".
  4. Why isn't Weitering a forward? Great mark, reads the play well...., in a write up about Schache it talks of accuracy on goals. Everyone grows up wanting to be the forward who kicks the goals. Carlton also need a forward line, I think the order is far from settled.
  5. Given regular game time I think he would surprise a lot of people. He did play TAC so he's been in system in some capacity for years and does have an understanding of the game. Many will disagree and then go on to make excuses for several players on our list that have failed to deliver for years. We could do worse and we are.
  6. More highlights from his round 23 game away the Tigers then his namesake had all year and can ruck with some effectiveness. Ready made depth player at worst. But we've been through this all before.
  7. Late next year debate will rage about whether Dawes/Grimes/Watts are worth more than an untried kid. No interest from any other club says a lot about the 3.
  8. What the collective contracts of Dawes/Grimes/Watts be? All out of contract at the end of 2016.
  9. We have some players in big money coming out of contract at the end of 2016. It's debatable whether any of them are best 22.
  10. A statement will be released in the morning citing mental health issues.
  11. My mate who's involved in coaching at TAC level thinks all the talls worth selecting will be gone by pick 12 but there's some quality there up until about pick 30.
  12. Happy he's gone but how would this thread be reading had he stayed.
  13. My mate who follows the Swans version of Demonland keeps reading that he might be off to Sydney. Daniel Robinson from Sydney was mentioned, most likely just speculation but as we found out with Trengove last year anything is possible.
  14. Howe Toumpas And I still think Watts could end up at Sydney.
  15. Hardly surprising that the concept has gone over your head.In your haste to stomp all over other posters you have again highlighted your lack of knowledge of the games fundamental basics. Some of the most simplistic concepts have to broken right down and re explained in order for you to keep up. In the Chris Dawes thread you asked how I form my opinions, maybe that's something you need to think about. Keep posting away because I'm sure there's a few posters out there that get something out of the rare insight you bring and your feeble attempts at humour whilst they wait for their parents to collect them.
  16. I personally believe a contract offer of two years would of got the deal done. Going of Howe's situation it's safe to assume Garland isn't cashing in by hanging around. Roos showed this year if young players are ready he will play them. Garland would be under no illusion about what's required. He said his bit now he needs to back it up.
  17. Harley Bennell chooses Freo as his club of choice after being sacked by his former club and having no offers from 16 others.
  18. Either I haven't explained myself properly or you haven't understood me. If you have the luxury of playing a midfielder in the role of lock down defender that would ideally mean that your midfield and midfield rotations on the bench are all players of quality. Depending on the teams set up you might even have one starting on the HFF and one on each of the back flanks. Your very best mids will start on ball but as you go down through the pecking order they can fill other spots. If the last spot to select for the starting 18 was back pocket and it was a choice between a lock down defender with great defensive skills but average disposal or a midfielder will equally good defensive skills but far greater disposal you should ideally take the midfielder. This gives the team great flexibility. When interviewed a few years ago about Geelongs successful team that won 3 flags, Bomber said we went against the grain of having small/medium defenders and we set about drafting as many skilled midfielders as possible and turning them into multi dimensional players. The premiership teams of Geelong and those of Hawthorn have mids that just play on ball, they have mids that can also go back, mids that go forward and mids that can do all three. As for your line "they will hurt you if they are playing on someone interested in being heavily involved in rebounding the footy", you have looked at this completely the wrong way. Players like Betts and Wingard will on occasions beat anyone inside the forward 50. But players like Betts and Wingard are also part of the reason the term "one way runners" came about. Their opponents can run off them and help set up play coming out of the back 50 and make them accountable. Great teams with good game plans and structures wouldn't and haven't had the problem that you speak off. When the opposition has the ball everyone becomes a defender.
  19. Reading on FB Hawks looking at Yarran. Does Richmond miss out again.
