I won't say disappointment but I hope we don't try and play Frost, McDonald, Dunn and Garland in the same side and I think Garland will miss out.

Roos took over before the 2014 season.The club was a rabble. He made 11 (?) list changes during post season. Trenners stood down as co captain and Jones was voted in. Grimes was also re elected (11 new faces, but yes he's probably well liked around the club). Roos wanted some stability in an environment that had been anything but over the past 4-5 years. Roos set about the pre season not only teaching a new game plan but empowering the players or as Neeld called it "accountability ". Roos observed how Grimes went about his footy and captaincy and twelve months later made the call. If Grimes played rounds 1-3 this season and wasn't dropped again later throughout the year I could believe the decision to step down was his own doing but he he didn't. You can't have your captain playing reserves. No ones doubting his application but the fact is he isn't up to it. Eight years in the system and still struggles with fundamental basics of the game. He would of cleaned up financially from us so we'll call it even. Thanks for your service Jack but it's time to go, and there's a few that won't be far behind him.

I find it amusing that some people still hope a player will come good after 8 seasons.

So if we buy into the myth that Watts has been mismanaged/poorly coached how does the current coaching panel coach into his game the one thing that is missing. Has Roos failed Jack too? How many times can you ask someone to have a crack?

The captaincy that he could of relinquished when Trengove did but chose to cling on thinking it will guarantee him a game, only to have it stripped from him 12 months later and subsequently dropped for round 1.As much as Bailey and Neeld weren't in the same class as a Clarko they weren't totally without a clue. Many on here blame under development for a number of players failing to come on as was initially hoped when they were drafted. Watts has put that theory to bed, Watts was drafted in 08 the year after Grimes, they both have been subject to supposed incompetent coaches/assistants/skills coaches yet Watts would be in the top 2-3 players at the club for disposal/footy smarts. Successful clubs don't draft players that can't kick the footy unless it's for a key position defender or ruckman. 12 months under McCartney (regarded by many as one of the best teachers) and he still can't kick. No more excuses, 8 years on an AFL list and still can't kick a footy, still puts his teammates under the pump. How much money is the Grimes/Watts/Dawes combo sucking out of our cap each year.

Grimes has been in the system for 8 years and there are still question marks over his disposal, tagger should no longer be considered the default position for someone who can't cut it anywhere else on the ground. Over the past two seasons under Roos Jones/Vince/Viney have all been given run with roles at some stage but whilst none of them have elite disposal they can cause damage when they win the footy.

The true worth of what Roos has done for this club probably won't be seen until after he is gone.Hoping I'm wrong.

There is only one thing missing from Watts game and not even Roos can get him to do it after 2 years.

Dawes gone. Grimes gone.

We have come a long way but I say we're still another season away because the likes of White, Harmes, Stretch, ANB etc will have another season under their belts. I think they will all become good players, but another season means better fitness and less inconsistency. Grimes career is over. JKH the jury is still out, I for one hope he makes it. (I still remember two preseasons ago against the Tigers). Newton and Michie have potential but need to be more consistent. Having said that Michie was unlucky at times this season. Oliver and The Weed look the goods but we should consider anything they do this year as a bonus. I know you excluded talls, it's an interesting one. Dawes is lucky to be getting a game according to many including myself but for lack of better options does. Pedo when fit plays his role but is only keeping the seat warm. Frost I hope can break back into the side after injury and be allowed to settle in one position, hopefully fullback.

Disagree, Watts being dropped was a message to Watts. Grimes being dropped round 1 was a message to the list as a whole.

We've had that many "Watts" threads over the year and we all know where each other stands in regards to him. Next year is make or break for him. Jumbo has mentioned him playing forward pocket, I like the idea but failing that he's cooked.

Bruest can win his own ball.You've asked the wrong question, it should have been "is the way Jack plays his footy sustainable in a final should we make finals" and the answer is no. I remember listening to the Essendon game on the radio, Gary Lyon was listing Melbourne players who needed to lift in the second half (yes the whole team under performed that day) Watts name was mentioned as he was playing on a first year and was getting led to the footy.

He was there for the taking during trade week. A second round pick would have been enough. Is it a case of no other clubs rate him or think they can get him for next to nothing next year?
