  1. We've heard that many times about coaches and recruiters over the past seven years.
  2. T.G.R. over at Demonology went early on Morton. Maybe not after one year but close.
  3. For me, development comes from having good senior players and leaders around the recruits (which they haven't had). But even if they did then they still wouldn't be much better than they currently are. A lot of the players Melbourne have drafted have serious flaws and as I and the OP mentioned even other clubs haven't been able to make them into better players.
  4. Some people could see it early on with Morton.
  5. When you look up the scores from overseas and are pleasantly surprised to see you only lost by 11 goals.
  6. I remember Port offered Melbourne two picks (possibly 7 and 9) for pick two (Trengove). Would be interesting to see if they worked out better.
  7. I'll preface this by saying I haven't seen the last two games, but I would like to see the most attacking team possible named. I want to see Blease, JKH, Riley, Toumpas and even Strauss given a game. Really change and mix things up and try something new just to see if they can score freely. The only problem is Melbourne would be accused of tanking.
  8. The thing that I find strange is that it feels as though Melbourne have drafted better with their late picks. Therefore, I would have thought that a lack of funding would impact on these picks more as they are more speculative and require more research. It would be interesting to compare prominent phantom drafts with real draft results and assess which have been more successful.
  9. Clint Bizzell wasn't a failure, but I am biased and agree with the rest.
  10. Well he did just miss the 2014 season.
  11. I think that losing the last game against Port Adelaide must have been a huge hit to the team's confidence. Bloody umpires.
  12. I just saw the highlights having not watched the game, I feel ill.
  13. I think that's a fair summary of the situation.
  14. For me the turning point was Collingwood game. The team just did not look like scoring at all that day and it has continued.
  15. If they had talent they would thrive at their new clubs. Players are very quick to adapt.
  16. I forgot about Rivers, he has been good for Geelong but easily won the Rising Star at Melbourne and was better then. I agree about Martin but and whilst Petterd has been solid for Richmond he had been no better than at Melbourne.
  17. Those players you listed would all be better at other clubs, despite the fact that just about every player to leave Melbourne in recent years has not improved under the development of their new clubs?
  18. Players who haven't been any better or were worse than they were at Melbourne under development of other clubs: Gysberts Scully Sylvia Morton Bennell Maric Moloney Petterd Cheney McLean Buckley Cook (VFL) I just struggle to see the likes of Strauss, Blease, Watts, Trengove, Toumpas and Tapscott being any better under the development of other clubs. Some of those players all teams would have taken if they had the chance, so there is bad luck but it doesn't change the fact that they would struggle in any side.
  19. 90% recruiting, 10% development.
  20. It's recruiting, not development. If players like Gysberts, Morton and Maric were any good they would have thrived under the development at their new clubs but they didn't. Martin is probably the only current former Melbourne player who is playing better at his new club than at Melbourne.
  21. The two games I've missed due to being on an aeroplane are "186" and this game just gone. I'm catching a ferry next time.
  22. I'm going overseas today. The last time I was traveling overseas during a game was when we lost by 186 points. Good luck, everyone.
  23. I still argue that without good forwards who create options, midfielders are less likely to take the game on and try to move the ball into the forward fifty quickly. Therefore, a lack of forward line entries is a two-way street.
