I wouldn't read too much into it. I think he was just being polite and acknowledging the players who have left (which Clark is at the moment).

Player development comes through having stars. The Swans have done well with the likes of Goodes, O'Keefe and McVeigh over the years and their extra salary cap means they can attract stars and hold on to them.
