  1. That's why I spoke to Cam at the Family Day, to get an insight in to what role he had been asked to play, and to confirm we are good hands coaching wise, it was a good plan, and he confirmed what I thought, he was to lead away and create space
  2. With that statement I don't think you have played much footy, it is bloody hard to continually run away from the ball, knowing that they are not looking for you, you want the ball, the discipline and team oriented play that Pedersen showed impressed me and obviously Roos as well
  3. OD, listen to what Bernie Vince says after his post game presser, it's all about the team, we supposedly had a second string unit there on Friday and I know it was the NAB Challenge but it was a pleasant change to watch a team playing as a team and seemingly all on the same page, made me a bit more optimistic that the dark times may be coming to an end. Players who normally get derided on here playing their role and (yes apart from the howlers), playing weill, Niclholson, Bail, Pedersen....Roos doesn't care who it is, if he thinks they can play the role he wants he will pick them, if they play the role, the place in the team is theirs to lose........so the guys who got the first chance, as Roos says got the merits
  4. You don't have to keep looking backwards OD, I don't, looking fwd to the Intra Club Thursday, see who gets a run
  5. This was The roles will change, the role he had on Friday worked because it was coached well, let's give everybody a second chance shall we, what if Fitzy, who used to be one of the least liked and then managed to get a consistent run and became a favourite, has a shocker during the NAB Challenge how will he be viewed then
  6. You were watching the game? Or is this just another of your arguments for arguments sake, get over it, Cam played his role on Friday night, so did the other 25, we took a small step on the journey
  7. I am not sure which bit some posters on here don't get, Roos is all for role players, we are praising him for it, we had one big forward on Friday night, the coaching was excellent, he led away from the goal square and probably had two defenders looking for where he was and we looked for smaller nippier options who ended up one on one with an opponent, and space to work with behind....Howe 4, JKH 3, Blease 1
  8. Can't we leave past history, most of the players on Friday night gave it their best, including Cam Pedersen, I posted what his role was, he seemed to do it ok, Roos says 'If you don't play your role, you won't play' Of course he may be given a different role against another team, but he carried out what it was on Friday night, that's the whole idea isn't it? He dropped marks and failed to get effective touches. Even little things like knocking the ball out to a teammate or dishing off little handballs would have been handy, but I really didn't notice any effective play other than clearing up space.......he knocked the ball free for Barry to pick up and handball lto Howe for a goal As for blowing hard, it was the first game of the season and he is carrying 98kg around, dear me
  9. The answer to your question about the tickets, no, not a cracker.........spoke to Peter Jackson later, was asked why he couldnt fix the weather at least 20 times, thought it hilarious, but it told him he must be doing something right with the supporters
  10. Being a volunteer helps occasionally, was standing next to Peter Jackson whilst Chip was doing the presser, as Chip finished he came over to Peter Jackson and said with a laugh paraphrasing "that should be worth another 300"....Jackson laughed back and said "No".......I don't think there is problem.......I asked Chip how many times a day he gets asked about the contract, he said at least once a day...........said he is really enjoying the 'new' Club but just wants to see what eventuates, too many false dawns
  11. I spoke to Cam at the Family Day, that was his role, to go anywhere except the goal square. so the smaller nippier guys could get one on one and maybe nick a few goals, worked to perfection, couldn't belileve his luck when he got what he considered a soft free kick, and knew he could kick the 9 pointer with ease....he is like everybody else just wants to play his role and get a game, and like the rest feels like he is at a new club this year
  12. I spoke to quite a few of the players, surprise surprise....one thing they were all stoked about was the noise from Melb supporters on Friday night.... Roos was as per normal keeping a lid on Estimate of crowd about 2 to 3000 Sorry W J that the tickets were a fizzer, any consolation, couldn't even sell myself a winner
  13. So what if it does OD, will you be disappointed?
  14. It is an AFL rule so it probably means both or neither.....
  15. ..er Col Garland says hi....you do actually watch the games?...
  16. ....you are joking aren't you, either that or the medication isn't working.........he has been one of the most consistent players in the last 3 years, in the leadership group, I don't blame him wanting to see if we are on the up...
  17. Actually it should make interesting viewing the bench, coz you can sub any time, but at half time, you can take a player out of the red vest and put them back on again if you want, (or reset them as the AFL would have it), making it four subs in total
  18. You are putting the team behind the 8 ball straight away, there are six on the bench and 2 subs, 26 players in the team, 3 emergencies = 29 named
  19. This is what the NAB Challenge is all about, Pedersen will relish the chance to nail a spot, he kicked 20 goals in 16 games for North Melbourne so he can kick goals and he has had a full pre season, looking forward to seeing what he can do, not what he did in the past, same for a rejuvenated Trengove....... the new midfield.......and King if he gets a run will love it....he is good mark and has reasonable speed, sure he has been told not to body up but use that instead
  20. It's 3 to be omitted, leaving 26, 8 on the bench, 2 of which are subs
  21. I'm with you OD, if he thinks his dog could be of therapeutic benefit I hope he brings it along to training..................if his wife was just a blow in who dabbled as a hobby, I would be concerned, but she is qualifiied
  22. I spoke to Jack Viney a week or so ago, he is like Hogan and the rest of the younger brigade, he is being managed carefully, only knows one way to train, but he tends to overdo it, hence the hamstring, then knocking himself out first full session back.........told me with pride he had again been thrown out of weights session (like last year) for overdoing it...gotta love the guy
  23. I think because of the care and attention that is going into the rehabilitation of all 3, we will finally get to see them on the park together, personally I reckon around Round 4
  24. Roos said he will manufacture smallish forwards, I expect to see if they play, Toumpas, Viney, Salem, Tyson, Cross, Vince and both Jones all having a stint up front
  25. Pedersen is one who may surprise this season, Roos does not praise lightly, difference this year is Pedersen has had a full pre season with a new coaching set up, like everybody else would assume he wants to forget the last year or two and start again
