And the desire, bit like Viney, another one who has been thrown off the training track for over doing it,....told me at training he is afraid to even look at the leg he broke, in case Medicos think something is wrong and pull him out again...over the years despite all the doom and gloom we seem to be able to find at least one out of the box....Pigdog is it I think this is another Roos inintiative/common sense......if you have even the slightest niggle you don't play, and you don't train with the squad until you can do the full session
-
That's what frustrates me the most, apart from the one or two 'light' sessions I have attended, the training has been top notch since day one, particularly the lenght of field drills, running in waves, multiple options, excellent kicking and really good decisions, I think that is what Roos sees, and he and we just need 22 to put it together in a game Going slightly off topic, I think the angst/anger/disgust/offence was due to most people not making the decision to 'leave'
-
Nothing much, just going through a reorganisation, downsizing, and involuntary redundancies, they made the wonderful decision to refer to staff such as myself who are not staying to be labelled as "leavers', went down a treat
-
There's a thing a player playing his first game for the season at AFL level working his way into the game....whatever next
-
Agreed, but then again we don't have many "supporters" who are 'brave' enough to do that, prefer to sit in the stands beer and pie in hand and hurl abuse. I am still waiting for some to tell Cam Pedersen he is fat to his face If the weather is fine, nearly died last Friday, will probably take the morning off from my wonderfully united workplace

James Strauss: James played half-back, wing and forward. He did well in all areas of the ground. He used the ball really, really well – his disposal efficiency was 95 per cent. He had 21 possessions and looked his best when he was running and carrying the ball. But he can get caught just taking it sideways and backwards at times. Looks like the assessements are getting more and more actual Would give the posters somebody to bag again should he come in
-
I hate to keep raining on parades, but I don't want another young guy thrown to the wolves and thankfully I don't think Roos will Christian Salem: Christian had 32 possessions. He played his first game as an inside midfielder for Casey. He used the ball quite well and was instrumental in the last quarter, helping Casey win the game. The thing he needs to work on is his accountability once the ball leaves the stoppage area. But otherwise, he’s going well. Don't think we will see him
-
No sorry, you didn't, that's how he described it himself when I spoke to him, I meant 2 games where he has shown something, he was looking at putting in a good one as he felt more comfortable at VFL level after a couple of games Ah so he will be different, he will be able to be one of the very few who show godd form in the VFL and then are able to translate it into AFL form, according to posters on this site that is This season has panned out exactly how I expected it to with all the retirements, injuries etc, this weekend I expect us to put up a good fight but go down by 40 odd points, anything better will be a bonus and a nice surprise, anything worse will mean we didn't have 22 playing as 22 again...exactly what Roos is looking for
-
What I meant was he had 'played' 2 games, in game 1 he was on the field finding his feet As for changes and best 22, lets look at what Roos values most, consistency, if we take that as a starter, we may have 5 players as locks and the other 17 could be who the match committee deem may be ready for a good game Nathan Jones Frawley Dunn Cross Viney
-
This is what I find so laughable about some posters on this board, Salem 0 AFL games but he is the best 22, based on what junior form?, hence Morton, Gysberts and Cook were locks for the best 22
-
Hey chap, Salem has played 2 games at Casey, 1 as a forward, he did bits and pieces in the practice games, but let's see him put five or six together racking up not only the possessions but his confidence, fitness and hardness
-
Robbie, too much common sense there. Why I stay off the board for a couple of days after a loss, 57 threads bemoaning everbody and everything. I was as disappointed as anyone on Sunday but apart from Nathan Jones, Viney and Cross I thought the whole team was down With Jetta, Matera kept taking him back into the 50 when Gold Coast were attacking and he ended up one on one, how is he supposed to create from those situations, at least when he got the ball and kicked it he hit a Melbourne player, and first game in I agree Watts needs a very very very good game, put him on Goodes Salem hit his straps this week, but would prefer at least another couple of weeks If players are not willing to work and provide a target, it is pointless having some good kickers off half back I thought worst player on the day apart from Tyson was Tom McDonald (surprisingly) he got torn a new one, his timing and positioning was way way off
-
Jumbo R, don't usually read your posts, but was intrigued by the number of quotes, I think what BB was saying is we have got you, you have a new target to bag now Nev is elevated, you don't like many players do you, you go to the game to sate your masochistic tendencies?

Stuie, my quote won't work, Evans impacted the last qtr with his pressure acts and tackling, Roos thought he did enough, that will do me -

With the calf tightness, Kent told me at training he was very doubtful, another one with interupted pre season, during pre season you can lighten the load for a week as your legs get back into it, unfortunately during the season you miss games...Dawes etc......there is no problem with the training -

Must have been a tough Pies session, after training went to Cheeky Monkey on Swan St for breakfast (can recommend), Fasolo, Witts, Thomas and one other tucking in including chips and tomato sauce -

Er Terlich is fine, Dawes trained very strongly, Kent may be a problem, see my training report -
Braved the Antarctic conditions Kent left early, calf tightness (I asked)...not confident. Spencer very light session after no show Wednesday, assured me he is fine. Terlich will play. Jamar said a very interesting thing, asked him when he would be available, answer "when I can get around the ground, you get found out". No shows Hogan, Michie, Barry, Tapscott. JKH switched on, one of the last off the ground, just wants to play. Nev Jetta pleased to be upgraded, just wants to bring his good form to AFL if he gets a chance. Asked Chip for 3 goals, big smile, so playing with confidence. And a perfect end to the session Cross and McKenzie last off the ground, after practicing picking up a wet ball off the ground for 15 minutes, asked both in their opinion whether G Ablett Jnr was best player of last 10 years, both said yes, Cross said 6 or 7 and Judd before that, I asked apart from the skill what was so good about him. Cross "his core strength, and he is speedy, you can't catch the little bastard" ... loved it, so not competitive at all.

For those who wonder why Nev was rookied then elevated, he was in Casey's best 6 for the last 6 games of last season, including the finals they played in, BOG in first practice game for Casey this year then in best in 2nd and in the best 6 for the first 2 games of this year, so showing some form, spoke to him at training, feeling really good and super fit, been enjoying playing down at Casey...absolutely rapt he did the full pre season for the first time....able to finally show what he can do without worrying about coming back from injury or being underdone, body also more mature

Personally I find those type of discussions tiresome, the outcome can't change, and it opens the door for the small anti everything group that inhabit a corner of this forum where it is always cloudy and raining -

Let's not mention any of the whatifs, hindsight is a wonderful thing, let's mention Tyson got tagged by an oppisition 17 games into his career, he has been averaging 30 disposals in his games, he will get used to being tagged, he is feeling more and more comfortable as each game passes (he told me). Salem will be allowed time to develop his game and have no pressure, we all know what additional pressure can do to players.......playing against men for only the second time, they played him as a forward, still got quite a few touches and kicked a couple of goals, what's not to like......reason he is being taken slowly at the moment forgot he has a bit of a wrist injury, nothing serious....I always forget the footy bits Toumpas after one game back. enjoying his footy, looked a completely different player at the weekend The modern game concerns me, it can chew up and spit out young kids at an alarming rate -
I think what he was saying is he has to find the balance, if there is an easy out, such as Dawes was (he was free and heading towards goal) he should take that, but obviously if there isn't an easy out try something, would assume if there are easy outs and he coninually goes for the 'amazing' instead, his tenure in the team will not be very long

I am a bit more optimistic about us going back to back after attending training yesterday, Roos seems to have finally instiilled confidence in what i would call the second tier players, Bail, Pedersen, Kent, Georgiou, Evans, Terlich etc, yesterday you could sense they were all 'up'......with all the leaders available displaying leadership on the field finally a sign we are going in the right direction- -

Now you mention, Jimmy T was not at training yesterday, easy to forget when so many players out on the track, so no shows Spencer, Toumpas, Hogan, Michie Just on another note, hopefully Harmes keeps developing, he is a seriously big unit, you can see why we took a chance and rookied him, kicks beautifully as well And finally missed by unscheduled media appearance, was wandering around the new Emporium in city, not by choice haha -

Sorry forgot I spoke to Christian about footy, we normally chat about the EPL, he supports Arensal and I support Everton vying for 4th.....he played forward for Casey last weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it......kicked a couple of goals........they are in no rush with him, told him he will be playing different positions and just embrace each one............
