Peter Jackson got Roos in and said 'what/who do you need", and then ensured he got it As you all know I speak to the players quite often, all have said, it is a team now, there are no stars, you get a role, you play it, you play it consistently well, you stay in the team, if you can't crack a spot in the position you normally play, you can have a crack at another position at Casey, see how you go, see if you can get in the team that way.......Michie.............the coaches will help you have a crack at the other spot......the ball is very much in the players hands.....you make the effort you get rewarded As for Neal Bullen, had a bit of an interrupted pre season and Clayton Oliver jumped him, just has to bide his time, but we are going to have a battle hardened replacement who is in top form should we need him

To whet your appetite......and if he keeps developing as he is........and comparisons which we all hate.......Jack Darling.......had the opportunity to spend half an hour with him a couple of weeks ago, absolutely stoked to be on an AFL list, regards it as a privilege, determined to give it absolutely everything.....thinks the development he is getting from the coaches is first class

Exactly what Nev Jetta was told last year when he had the same issue, the only 'cure' is 4 - 6 weeks of keeping your head away from contact

ding, I had a chat to Jason Taylor about Hulett during the pre season, did post it, he missed the last year of junior footy with injury but we had been tracking for a couple of years, and saw enough in the couple of games he played to draft him Seriously big guy, they expected him to take a while as he hadn't played against men, but also again making sure we don't break him. Spoke to a couple of coaches in recent weeks, he is exactly where they thought he would be once he settled into playing VFL and is improving every week, again being a forward, for the modern game, he has to cover all the things that the Weed needs to as well, but they are pleased with his progress

We don't need Hogan, he is going to stop the boats by standing on the beach at Fremantle with his hand up in a threatening manner (I was going to use the Canute reference, but thought it might be wasted, history to young people these days, means something you wipe off your browser to make sure Mum doesn't see the websites you're trawling) Besides which the Chinese building boom saved this country in the GFC, a drovers dog could have managed it
-
From the Casey game today " jake spencer kicks a goal from outside 50 " although it must be said it is only the VFL
-
The new Melbourne ding, he has to do the above if he wants to be even considered for a game in the AFL
-
It is not his ability, as I have said before, all AFL players should have the skillset at varying levels, his skillset is good, which means he has the opportunity to be an AFL player of a very good standard, some players can run all day but have a low level of skills, it does not stop them becoming an AFL player, which as we have discussed means that they are AFL standard, let me know if this is still not that clear....ability is more about being able to produce your best on a consistent level, as in Bill Shorten talks a good game and seems to have the skillset required to be a Prime Minister, but will he be able to maintain it and not drop the country into the cesspit that the last two Labor governments have..........back to the WEED, from training you can see him listening intently to every bit of information that is pushed his way by the coaches, which again is a good sign
-
Keeping a lid on but yes, watched him against Collingwood, skillset really good, McCartney will turn him into the player everyone wants him to be

I don't offer an opinion to the players, I ask why something occurred in a game, or what role they are playing, or what the coaches expect, or where they think they need to improve, to give me a better understanding of the game and the team, eg I asked Jack Watts whether his and Hogan's game against Gold Coast where they seemed to lead to take at least 3 or 4 defenders away from the fat side of the ground as we attacked to leave space for the midfielders to lead into was actually planned. I do congratulate them if they've had a good game........the players are not fans of supporters who come up to them offering advice on where they went wrong in a game, as one supporter found out at training Let me think Gawn has been at the Club for 5 years until the last year hasn't shown anything at AFL level, a million posts on here to attest to that Spencer has had a rotten run with injuries over the whole of his career at MFC and was stuck behind Jamar and not being developed properly in his first few years, has actually shown real progress since Roos brought Stafford in but still can't get a clean run at it, hopefully this year could be it

Oh so the last poster who called a player a spud was not getting personal I really don't give a toss if it becomes tiring to people, I get tired of the endless negativity on this site As for talking to the players, I ask about tactics, gameplans, or may have a joke about a cockup they made in the game. all players have the ability to improve their skillset, it has nothing to do with whether they are AFL standard, with my comment on their ability, all AFL players should be able to kick, handball etc, some better than others, from my training reports I said Matt Jones had improved in this area, and was laughed out of court, until I was proved right in the game........again all players who run out for an AFL team, in an AFL game are AFL standard otherwise they wouldn't be there.........most of Essendon's top up players show this, the didn't go for untried, they went for players who had played AFL, so they had the base standard to work with

Because I am like everybody else, I am entitled to an opinion, although it is in this case, not an opinion, but more a statement of fact but I also know that my opinion means very little, as I am not in the Footy Dept. Not sure which bit you are not getting, Josh Mahoney (Footy Manager MFC, remember him) said in the article, that Spencer was capable of playing AFL football, hence AFL standard player. I don't denigrate players, that could be the main point of difference between myself and other posters on Demonland. I like a player who comes out and gives 100% all the time, each time Spencer has pulled on the jumper in the AFL he gives it his all and competes
-
I didn't comment, if a player is in an AFL squad, then he is an AFL standard player, otherwise he wouldn't be there, if he falls below that standard, in the opinion of the Footy Dept, or they find a higher standard of AFL player, they are delisted, Spencer has just been given a new 1 year contract, so therefore for another 18months he is an AFL standard player
-
I believe that if you haven't played the game at the highest level, your opinion doesn't count for much, I haven't played the game at the highest level, but Spencer has so therefore he is an AFL standard player, not VFL. I never comment on a players ability, if they are picked in an AFL team then that means they are an AFL standard player. I understand some players are less skilled than others, especially between the ears, but I would never denigrate them for it In the media the opinions I listen to are the ex players, Carey, Mathews, Darcy, Watson, Newman, the rest pffftttt they have no idea This is a public forum, so therefore I am allowed to spout the same rubbish ad infinitum, don't read it if you don't like it, but can't help yourself again?

The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here
Satyriconhome replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
Roos has already publicly intimated where the club stands on this "Hogan will be well paid, no matter which club he is at" (we are going to give him a one off offer, which will be based on what we think of him as a player in a team) "You can't afford to spend a lot of money on one player if you want to build a team" (we will not be held to ransom or get in a bidding war) If the manager manages to convince Fremantle to cough up the sort of money being spoken about, and convinces Jesse to take it, I don't think we would be interested in matching it -
Just a slight disagreement on skills, I think all AFL listed players should be able to kick, handball and mark to a decent standard, I am more along skilled between the ears, able to set up play etc, but that is not a knock on him, he does the role assigned to him
-
I was at training on Wednesday and Matt was rehabbing, when discussing his progress, you could see they were concentrating on the chest/rib area, must have been a bit of a belt he got
-
You haven't convinced me either, but hey, I'll live, you have to denigrate an argument rather than debate it, sort of proves my point about Demonland wouldn't you think
-
This was brought up and done to death when the incident occurred, any player at any level who says they have never ducked/or pulled out of a contest is a liar, thankfully most posters now realise it was, like a lot of other players, a one off Pedersen is your typical Roos soldier, not the most skilled player in the world, but will play his assigned role to the best of his ability each time he gets the chance, and Roos will continue to give him a game until he doesn't play the role consistently or a better option appears, but that better option will have to earn it

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 8
Satyriconhome replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Nut you beat me to it? Read it this morning, haven't had chance to post Dpnt put facts, what are you trying to do ruin the teputation of Demonland My take on the game, I think we will try and make it a stoppage game don't want to get involved in a shootout -
MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 8
Satyriconhome replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm with you, read some of the posts, have a good laugh, and move on, unfortunately/fortunately there are all types on here, some posters just need to finally realise this and not read what they don't agree with, unless of course they can come up with a reasonable counter argument rather than just name calling....i wish.....my problem, I defend myself when attacked, misquoted, denigrated or lied about, also have the chutzpah to fess up when wrong, unlike some -
Just a comment on a poster who like others just denigrates a player for the sake of it.(Similar to a poster that calls another poster a numbskull, just because they don't like a post, don't read it) Spencer is on an AFL list. he has been given a one year contract, so the Footy Dept must think he is slightly more than a makeweight
-
JKH is the new McCartney project so you may not get your wish Interestingly Pencil has probably played more AFL games than you have
-
He got a massage around the groin/upper thigh at least twice early in the session, looked a bit uncmfortable and left the track these days if a player sneezes they are sent inside There were quite a few cameras and reporters there today who were all over his leaving it may be nothing had a really solid hitout on Saturday we sometimes forget he is only 18

I spoke to Vanders, one more week of full training and then play, had an ankle that just wouldn't behave, all fine now In the marking drill they grabbed the boxing coach (can't remember his name) who was minding his own business leaning on the fence to man the bag Liam Hulett had 3 goes at killing him. Agree about BenKen can really get airborne when he was leaving training he stripped of his top pullled on his backpack and marched off leaving the Trac to politely enquire " what the [censored] are you doing" The whole mood of the squad was focussed and upbeat Agree with Newton, another one whose core has been rebuilt whilst he was off legs
