My 3 word player analysis V The Flower
Jerry Lundergard replied to joeboy's topic in Melbourne Demons
If we all know from watching games that Brown disposes of the ball poorly, don't you think that opposition teams would also know this, and would be happy for the likes of himself Ward and Godfrey to get the pill in their hands more so than some of our better users? If you were coaching against the Dees, who would you choose to not check tightly and allow to run loose? -
I have come up with a theory in regards to the bizarre team selection for our last game. We definitely want to lose the rnd 22 game against Carlton, but we don't want to appear to be tanking. So if we have some ridiculous team selections now and leading up to that game, when we(hopefully) do it fo the Carlton game, we can't be accused of blatant tanking. Just a theory. Any thoughts?
-
I would think commentators who don't see all the games every week, would probably just make a decision based on what they may have viewed that round. Carlton had a crack this week, we didn't. That may change next week.

I look around the league and running and bouncing out of defence, and delivering with effeciency, i see the likes of Gilbee, Malceski, Mcleod and Gram. Who do we have? Daniel Ward I look around the league and tagging of other teams prolific ball winners, and also hurting them the other way, i see the likes of Ling, Sewell, Kirk and Rawlings. Who do we have? Simon Godfrey I look around the league and taking on the dangerous full fowards of the league and winning more often than not, i see the likes of Rutten, Glass, Firritto and Scarlett. Who do we have? Nathan Carroll I look around the league and getting tap outs to advantage in the rucks and giving their teams first use of the ball, i see the likes of Cox, Mcintosh, Lade and Taylor/Campbell. Who do we have? Jeff White I look around the league and imposing themselves on games and not allowing their teams to slip into mediocrity, i see stars and leaders the likes of Hodge, Reiwoldt, Brown, Cornes, Judd, Harvey. Who do we have? I am not sure

Buckley was pretty good in the last qtr.

plain & simple, we suck!

Our defence is garbage. Theirs isn't. That's the difference. Two missed decisions by the maggots lead to roos goals.

My 3 word player analysis V Disdain Lions

I always look foward to your analysis joeboy, and i know we all have our allegencies to players, but last week you gave Sylvia BOG, and this week i can't cop that Sylvia was any better last night than many of your "no influence" players. He looked good late when the game was in "junk time", so that doesn't count for me. I also read that Sylvia was given BOG, by the coaching staff, is this right? if so, maybe he had another job he did grea that i was unaware about(like Davey with Houlihan last week). If so i stand to be corrected. I know this post will [censored] a lot of people off, because there is plenty of Sylvia love going on throughout these boards at the moment, but i am still not convinced that Col will become the superstar we all want him to be. -
West Coast are flying aren't they? I just want to see a committed team effort. I want to see us win some clerances and put our head over the ball, and dare i say it....play some good team footy. Wasn't much of that going on tonight.
-
I hope nobody actually thinks that last qtr counts for anything. I don't want see some of our players all of a sudden looking like superstars in junk time. We want to see performance when the game is still there to be won. Very, very disappointing performance. I actually thought we had a chance tonight.

The level has dropped to VFL standard now, and what do you know? We look alright again.
-
I have seen nothing in this game to make me think we are any chance of rebounding next year. I expect to see soft, inept performances from some of those older we have on our list. But what i really thought i would see, was the likes of Sylvia, Bate and Jones stepping up and taking their game to a new level. And with McLean, take leadership of the club.
-
What's the difference between Charman pinning a guys arm in a tackle(Mclean) and slamming him into the ground, and then touching him on the head while pushing his face into the ground, and what Sylvia did?
-
My thoughts.... We are so bad at clearances it is sickening. Teams do their scouting against us. Let Ward, Brown or Godfrey take possession, because they won't hurt you with their disposal. Is Brad Miller's time up??? Either we don't work hard enough, or brisbane are exceptional at staying on our hammer defensively when we push up the wing, and conversely they are leaving our guys in their wake they push up. Aaron Davey may need a spell at Sandy for disciplinary reasons. What's that line Malthouse uses? It's not who is out, but who is playing and what they can do. We need to adopt that attitude.

I guess the question remains, what was done in the lead up to make this fairly weedy bloke want to piff cue ball at McRae and essentially take on half a football side? -
I was wondering the same thing during the game. Three things came to mind 1. We are not very clean around the stoppages, and our anticapation of where the ball is going is still poor. 2. We still have young bodies that aren't quite ready yet to to take the physical pressure and still clear the ball with precision. 3. And, i have been banging on about this for a while, but Jeff White is a poor tap ruckman. IMO, he rarely taps to advantage, and I rate PJ better than him in this area.

I must admit, i thought there was just as much bad with Bizzell, as there was good. Maybe more. -

Does anyone know if Ward is contracted next season? I just don't feel that he is up to a standard that we want if we are going to take that next step foward. Schwartz must be a mate of his, because he highlighted him at the start of today's game, and spoke about how good he has been this year. -
I think i remember i series of play where it looked like he threw himself over the ball a couple of times around pack of players in our defensive 50 early in the first. I wouldn't be suprised if this was where the incident happened.
-
I am a big fan of Dunn's too. Apart from his hardness at the footy, i think he has just natural footy smarts, does a lot of little tap ons to advantage that really impress me.

Can't agree that Sylvia was our best. I would have put Wheatley and Bate ahead of him. I would say that Brock is probably copping the No.1 tag at the moment, so i don't think it will be long before he turns it around. -
Lloyd facing 1 week for shot on Carroll

I reckon Lloyd would look silly doing just about anything in life. Must be the high shorts, and the stupid look on his mug. -

Geez i was getting sick of hearing all those whining Bomber supporters on the radio toady. I wonder what the reaction from them would have been if Byron Pickett had of done that to James Hird? Or if Cam Mooney or Matty Scarlett had of done that to a swans player last week? I reckon they would be singing a different tune. -
Just finished watching the game of the year between the Hawks and Pies, and couldn't help but feel a little jealous watching two quality, finals bound Victorian teams having a red hot crack. Hawthorn full of running, and accurate in front of goal when it counted. And the Pies, plenty of key players missing, but still ultra competetive and refusing to use it as an excuse to put in a sub standard performance. We could learn plenty from watching these teams play.

Can anyone who has played in the ruck before, explain to me, why when a Jeff White gets a free hit at the ball due to poor umpire bounce, other ruckman slipping, etc., he is unable to have the smarts/ability to just tap it down to one of our onballers, rather than just smashing it aimlessly foward? I can never quite understand why this would be so hard. Lade would do it, as would Cox and Everitt. We need to prioritise a great tap ruckman in the draft and trading period.
