Thanks for the info GNF. I think what makes me really really angry is the statement ages ago when Mitch said one of the contributing factors to his depression was that he was getting paid so much money and not contributing to the club. That to me implied extreme loyalty on his part. Coupled with the emotion he showed in the interview where he spoke about Jim Stynes' death, I thought his loyalty was beyond reproach. And now he wants to leave. I am bitterly disappointed by this news.

This could be very interesting from a free agency perspective. Say a whole lot of these guys take this route and become delisted free agents, able to go wherever they want. I wonder how many will go to bottom 4 teams vs top 4 ones? It would be like getting a massive pool of statistics on free agency movements without having to wait years for them. It could accelerate the analysis on if free agency has worked or not. -

Now Caro saying Ryder may go for pick 20, so the Bombers get SOMETHING instead of him walking out for nothing. http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/brisbane-lions-may-offer-secondround-pick-for-essendons-paddy-ryder-20140904-10cc1x.html Basically I think this means Ryder is saying to Essendon "I'm going, you can make it hard and get nothing, or you can make it easy and trade me for pick 20 to the Lions". Also this little nugget... "Only Ryder has at this stage seriously considered quitting, but at least one other player has contacted the AFLPA to clarify his options." Maybe 'dominos' wasn't too far off the mark eh? -

I will stop following the AFL is this happens. I find it hard to stomach their constant hypocrisy, but that would be too much. -
Thanks for that link, he actually comes off like a human being. Playing CS and WoW though don't necessarily validate him not being a DH though. The amount of tools playing those games is massive. I know, I was one. Also he played a druid, and druids were easymode. Heal warrior -> root -> run away -> repeat. Or grab flag -> run away -> repeat. Cachia mentioned in this thread - I would definitely chase him if he's available.

Yep. And no compo for Essendon. If they ask for it, we just tell them it's their own mess and they should sort it out. Just like Melbourne and no pp. -
Yeah, no one cares when someone from England or New Zealand comes over on a plane on a tourist visa and stays illegally. But come over in a boat fleeing persecution and back you go! They'll take our jobs! Think of the children! People will use phrases like "social integration issues" or "cultural clashing" but ultimately it's just masking simple racism. English illegal immigrants are ok, Afganis aren't. A lot of people don't even know they're doing it. /flameshield on

HAHAHAHA, this is the best comment I've seen on The Age Ryder article: Someone forgot to spike all of the cool aid it seems. Commenter mark Location Date and time September 04, 2014, 8:07AM -

Someone said before that clubs can be very insular environments. Stockholm's maybe? -
I love our standard jumper. I used to put it on when I was a kid and pretend to be superman. Growing up in the 90's, the dees looks like a team of superheroes to me. Watching the wizard fly in it was amazing. Despite all the BS of the last decade, I still get a tingle when I pull it on to go to a game. There's something really special about it. Oh man, now I'm all nostalgic.

I guess this would be him showing "significant assistance" or whatever in order to reduce his ban. Could you imagine all 34 of them doing that? Man I hope this all blows up in Essendon's face. What a disgrace of a football club. -

Zaharakis didn't take any injections, so he has no ability to argue Essendon breached his duty of care. He can't leave under the same rules Ryder can. -

How is it possible that this document exists yet the players are still playing? The system moves far, far too slowly. Also this would essentially mean no other club will be trading with Essendon this season. -

Surely Andrews won't escape the tape recorder saga. Can't see him getting in. I think you're probably right in that Napthine was sneak in simply because he hasn't annoyed quite enough voters. I wouldn't think it'd be by much though. -
But in my day you could leave school in year 10 and walk into a factory job and be running the place in 10 years! Surely nothing has changed in the last 40 years and my personal experience with youth employment still reflects reality. Any kid these days who doesn't have a job just isn't trying hard enough and deserve what he gets! Harumph! Sorry, the ghost of baby boomers past must have possessed me for a second there. Good thing they don't run the country or anything.

We tried this before while trying to retain Scully. The AFL told us no, but let the Judd deal continue.

Actually I disagree with what he said. It was just the image of those applauding fans that gave me pause. Seemed to reinforce his point. -

Correct. I thought my brother's observation merited a discussion. However I'm more than happy to sit here and watch everyone call him names. TBH, it's turned out to be a more entertaining thread than I though it'd be. -

I have made these arguments many times. He still reckons it's because we're weak. He's not alone in his views either, I've heard it from others as well. -
You're probably right. Would be a very interesting exercise though.
