Calmed down just enough to give this a bash 6. Oliver - Just your standard Oliver game. 11 tackles showed that he was one of the few to continuously hit the Hawks hard. 5. OMac - Who would've thought that with the likes of Jetta, Hibberd and now Lever in our backline, we'd be saying that Oscar has been our best defender so far in 2018? 4. Gawn - Set a club record for most hit outs in a game with 66. Massive effort. Its just a shame that Hawthorn read his taps better than the players who trained with him all pre-season. 3. Hogan - Was everywhere in the first quarter with 12 touches and a goal. 2. Jones - By no means a massive game statistically but was able to shut down Mitchell for most of the match. 1. Kent - Played the quarter of his life before fading into near obscurity. Still encouraging signs though.

According to those stats, Hogan's top speed yesterday was equal to that of Hartung and Garlett. Wow.

For those watching, does it look likely that Baker will debut sometime this season? -
Coburg Lions v Casey Scorpions - VFL Round 1

Casey Twitter listed Weed with seven touches and three goals for the opening term. Did they accidentally count an extra goal? -
6. Hogan - Demonstrated that he's still every bit as dangerous when he's not kicking goals 5. Gawn - Easily one of the more dominant ruck displays we've ever seen. 4. Jones - Typical Jones game. Absolute beauty of a pass to Jeffy in the last to ice the game 3. Lewis - Ice cool when the heat was on. Slotted a settler early in the last like he'd done it 100 times before....oh wait. 2. Bugg - Finally took advantage of his opportunities and finished with a well deserved handful. 1. Salem - Although he faded, his start the game was as good as anyone's. Honorable mention to Wagner. Really liked what I saw today. Apologies to Petracca, Kent and Tyson
-
The percentage of his split second handballs that fall into in the arms or to the advantage of a teammate is astounding. How about his handball to Petracca in the last quarter? I don't think we've had a player like this before....In fact, I don't think anyone has.
-
EDIT: Tweet isn't showing on the forum for some reason. Anyhoo, its just Goodwin saying that the scan was precautionary and Hogan will be 100% right this weekend.

Out: Maynard In: Tyson Nothing against Maynard, but there are clearly better options waiting in the wings. How Tyson and to a lesser extent Brayshaw failed to make the round 1 side is still head scratching. I'm willing to stick with Hannan for one more game. He had an absolute shocker of a first half (did he even touch the ball?) but was involved in some important plays in the second. Depending on Brisbane's forward set-up, I'd also like to bring in Frost as an extra tall to free up Lever to intercept and spoil as a third man up. His one-on-one play is clearly a weakness in his game which Geelong clearly knew and exploited. One more thing, the calls to drop Wagner are a bit premature. Watch the third quarter again. Wagner along with Harmes and Jones were among those who brought us back into the contest. Anyone who can lay a bone crunching tackle on Selwood is OK in my books.

Petracca and Oliver in the middle. Bayley Fritsch showing some positive signs OMac toweling up Hawkins
-
I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt considering he was absolutely smashed by Selwood in the second quarter. Clearly wasn't 100% afterwards

North are going places this year.....dark places.

I haven't seen any of the Saints vs Brisbane game aside from the final margin. If anyone was watching, how did the Lions look?

That Jack Watts 'Energy Watch' ad is hall of fame worthy.

Keen if there's still room!

I believe his best for us was four, which he only did a few times over his career in red and blue.

Bugg had some decent moments, particularly when I saw him up the ground. I wouldn't say he looked off the pace, but I don't think we'll ever be convinced on his finishing. He missed two easy shots at goal (one from 25m out to ice the game in the final quarter) and his one major came as a result of a 'joe the goose.' I'm a bit torn on whether he fits into the 22 or not because we arguably played our best football last season (that four game winning streak) when Bugg's role was to be a niggling forward. He was never statistically impressive during this period but he always seemed to bob up for a goal or two every week and play a handy team role. -

I just realised I forgot about him. Probably comes in at the expense of a Stretch or Hannan. Harmes is another I forgot to consider. -

I was a big fan of the 'league of its own' ad from about 10 years ago.

Pre-season or not, but am I the only one who thought Bernie probably played his best game in nearly two years? Looked in great touch tonight. -
21 touches, 7 marks and 2 goals for Hogan.
-
Another big spread of goal kickers tonight with 11 EDIT: Make that 12 as Buggy kicks his first!

Melky with two!
