Resilience - MFC Players V MFC Supporters (Merged Thread)
TGR replied to baysidedave's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don't mind negative. Hell, I have probably been the most negative poster in the past 12 years. But when the negativity is flippant, and based on a superficial/irrational thinking and subjectivity...it should be basically ignored. Too much black or white for mine. He was the messiah 12 months ago; and yesterday's news now. MFC supporters just cant stick fat with a solid process and take the hits that come with it. We are soft eastern suburbs of Melbourne types that complain when our son gets tackled to hard. -

Good point and one that I can't argue against. -

No. I "supported" them. I paid my memberships. But I also had the objectivity and nous to see where we were heading long ago. The safe calls. The rhetoric. The decision making. The massive cultural issues. Trusting a boys club that were there because of money or that they played a few games of mediocre footy. I saw how this club got shocked to the core with Gutnick. My god, a guy with a bit of ego who wanted to do things differently!!!!!!!!!!!! No wonder the rich white anglos put a stop to him after 5 minutes. That is the big difference pal. We haven't been a knowledgeable supporter-base. We have been largely a bunch of clapping cheerleaders. That just filters up an organisation like the crusty old MFC and made them ultra comfortable in the status quo. These weak supporters who expect sympathy for decades of under-performance? I don't shed a tear for you, because as a collective you have contributed to it. You have allowed it much more than you know. -

Absolute and utter rubbish. We vote boards in and out. We had faith in your Garry Lyon's to run a coach selection process. We applauded bruise-free footy in the 2000s because it was good to watch. We couldn't see how flakey it was. I used to laugh at other supporters. Since my introduction to ology in 2002/3, and sitting listening to most MFC supporters yell "kick it long", I have been shaking my head at Melbourne supporters for far far longer than Paul Roos has. A bunch of introverted (because ego is a dirty word), pessimistic, white-collar, liberal voting, football naive bunch of nervous nellies....epitomised by the Paul Roos saga. -

Exactly. They probably prefer the scintillating footy we were playing under Neeldy. -

No wonder some clubs are coach-killing machines. Subjective, emotional, irrational supporters make boards very nervous. Weak boards act as a result of the restless natives. -

Exactly what Roos is saying. Judge him over the 5 minutes he has been here; and not the 5 decades you have been hurting. I agree with him 100% about us supporters who can't see the big picture; who get over-excited by a win; and over-deflated about a loss or two. Emotional, subjective and irrational. -
OK, PJ and PR and GB should have come out an aimed for 10 wins. Guess what, we aimed for 7 and will get 6. Where is the transparency and honesty with promising 10 and getting 6. I can't believe the article. Typical marketing man. Lets spin a bit and get the hopes of the natives higher....like being the next ManU of the AFL. No wonder we became a basketcase in 2007-2013. No bloody wonder.

No. Neeld was yet another in a long conga-line of yes-men that said "Yes sir" to the most autocratic coach in the history of the game in Mick Malthouse. Think of all of them? Scott Watters, Neeldy, Guy McKenna, Laidley, Brad Scott (tick, tock), John Barker (unlucky), and the list goes on and on and on and on. The only assistants that might get through, are the ones like Buckley and Richardson that said...... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPqhYam2qrw Malthouse never gave his assistants licence to think; unlike Roos and Clarkson. So don't just simply compare Bolton with Neeld. -
Can I use your IP and edit my original post?

Not unhappy with that. Hyponatremia can do awful things to you. -
1. Give Jared Rivers a send off at Etihad versus GWS Not many players who leave this club to play with a successful club, have the most kindest things to say about his old home. "I was lucky enough to play with the best 2 clubs...." or words to that effect. Maybe Jolls can sneak in the trunk I tell you now, we start this, and clubs will start to follow us. Anyhow, it is the least we can do for a loyal servant who bled for the jumper. Simpletons think he got better at Geelong. No, he got more exposure at Geelong. He was always good. Always played on taller opponents. Always had a good pair of hands. Often courageous. 2. (I'm keeping my powder dry for now. It wont be popular here. The natives will go bonkers.)

You have every right to vent, as I have every right to call it as I see it. Hard to debate superficiality and emotion. So Demonland should just have a venting thread that doesn't allow reply. Enter at own risk. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3YD5v9w_3M You say mentally weak. Funny, as I prosecuted a case in the midst of the Adam Goodes Booing climax, that Jack Watts was one of the most mentally toughest in the competition.

You might be right. I still think of you as a cross between Simple Robert Walls and Corey the facebook party kid. -
Way ahead of you bro, I have already done that Try venting your frustration into deep thought over ranting. Deeper understanding = less frustration = realistic expectations = minority = walking against the herd

IF, if, if, if. No wonder we are all labelled keyboard warriors. Put yours on the line now. I say Bolton will fail unquestionably. He impressed me at the coaches conference, but he is assistant coach material full stop. If MFC supporters are questioning Roos after 19 months, then I say good luck to Mr. Nitrous Oxide. pTGR -

That is a 110% improvement on the week before against the bulldogs then. -

Interesting we won clearances and almost parred contested possessions. Our disposal efficiency was down slightly compared to them, but we had less clangers. We had more scoring shots too. But what stands out like dog's gonads again is that we are grossly in the red when it comes to bounces (more than 50% less) and uncontested possessions (176 to 206). Lack of speed and extroversion for mine. Granted, the speed differential was no where near that when we play dogs and saints (and maybe GWS in 2 weeks time). I'm more worried about GWS than I am the declining Freo. Although beware Ross Lyon, Sandy and Fyfe come September. -

All I am saying, is that if you go to a place of extreme poverty with some UN goods (food etc.), the last thing you should be worried about is Michelle Bridges saying "watch the carbs" or Pete Evans saying "watch the legumes". pTGR -

Agree I agree, Jones isn't the problem with this club. But Jones wouldn't captain any other club. He was never my choice for captain, although in many respects, he was our only choice, if you can understand that. I picked Trengove for captain (ology pre-decision) which ultimately proved a mistake, but I maintain most, if not all selections were going to be a mistake anyway. Come on. Have a look at their team line up. They went smaller and quicker. Jameson and Rowe matched up on the hulk and Dawes. Other than that, they had us covered easily for speed. ...and Frost......100% agree. -

I think your contribution definitely adds to the equation, but when we are an entity that is infiltrated by introverts, who play introverted footy, Houston we have a problem. There is no way an introvert would do what a 19 year old Luke Hodge did to the Lions in their prime. You could say Stephen Waugh was an introvert in a social sense, and you would be correct. But he had the eye-of-the-tiger, a win-at-all-costs approach, white-line fever who was happy to sledge a 7 foot man with red in his eyes and his right hand. But the difference is this, Waugh had extroverts (in Warne etc..) around him. Finally, I am no NBA tragic, and would trip over Jordan in the street, but don't tell me he didn't have swagger, and supreme self-confidence. -

No they do. Because dumb blokey pub talk on SEN and the like actually infiltrate the brain of the simpleton. Then without anything more than superficial half-thought, the simpleton simply regurgitates it. We heard it in cricket with left hand - right hand combos. We heard it in politics with the school hall funding 'disaster'. We hear it everywhere all the time. -
Some serious questions asked about Paul Roos ...
TGR replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Was Paul Roos on the dole before we employed him? Are you guys serious? How dumbed down is this debate? I ditched Foxtel because I had a gutful of Mark Robinson drunk dumb pub talk. But I get it here in droves. A culture of a club starts from its' supporter-base, and no second prizes why our culture has been deplorable. Paul Roos has the highest integrity in AFL football. For a coach-killing club to attract a man of his callibre, we had to pay $$$. If you are interested in value for money, then spend your time worrying about Diamond Jim, Neeld and Co. This absolute rubbish about how his heart is not in it; how he has come for money ala Blight. Whether the MFC succeed or fail under Paul Roos, will in a large way, determine his legacy as a coach. He was willing the drink from the poisoned chalice. He had/has plenty of skin in the game. The only unforeseen emergence has been the sudden late demise of ultra defensive game-plans. In 2012, Roos and Malthouse could proudly boast that defence wins premierships and their ultra defensive mindset has stood up for ever. In 2012/13, Roos and Malthouse could have demanded 5 year deals if they wanted to; especially Roos. In 2014 and 2015, the game has suddenly changed. Teams now need to be able to pull the trigger offensively, and have an ultra-offensive lever. Suddenly, Malthouse is on the scrap-heap; and according to MFC and the media, Roos should folllow soon. Look at ball ups now. Umpires have been told to sprint in and throw it up so stoppage structures can't even have time to eventuate. Slow teams (Syd 2005) can no longer congest and suffocate quick (Eagles 2005) teams. It is getting harder with mega rotations, and a nervous AFL that want the game to look pretty. But all this takes deep thought; and Matthew Lloyd may be right. I think Roos is young enough to adapt, but he has got to lose his stubbornness and his 100% belief in his mindset; if I can assume that this is what he has. To claim that Roos is in it for the money, where he could have EASILY ASKED FOR A 6 YEAR DEAL at 1.5 m plus incentives, makes your ascertain (which is not unique to you) absolutely and utterly brainless and offensive.
