CHANGES: Rd 06 vs Gold Coast
spirit of norm smith replied to GawnWithTheWind's topic in Melbourne Demons
Have to review Suns outfit first. (Assume Rowell is out). Defenders- Collins. Almost best FB in the league. Harbrow. Great rebounder and user of the footy. Hanley Mids- Greenwood, Holman, Miller and Swallow. Workers. Tough contested footy. Weller, Ellis, Anderson. Runners. Forwards- Talls. Day & King. Smalls. Bowes, Sexton & Ainsworth. so planning. Get another tall defender. Can’t have Lever and Smith. Need another tall forward. Defenders. Jetta. Omcd. Lever. Salem. May. Hibberd. Jetta in for Lockhart. Omcd in for Smith. if petty was fit, I’d play him FB. Lever play 3rd def & intercepts to help combat talls. Rivers shown good skills and run so keep in but start on the bench Mids. Need tough contested footy. Whilst horrible for a few weeks, keep Oliver and Viney. Harmes stays in. Tomlinson to bench and rotate role. Inside- Petracca. Viney. Oliver outside - Brayshaw Langdon. Harmes in rotation Ruck - Gawn (you bloody champion) Forwards. Balance needed. 2 talls. 3 opportunitists. One pressure small. Need to BRING IN WEID OR BROWN (and for 5-6 weeks). Keep Pickett. Melksham to play on Harbrow. Melksham on notice. Needs to show some dash & pressure. Sort through excess of mid sized half forwards. Bring in Bennell for skill and goalkicking. Out goes Hunt and Vandenburg. Didn’t do enough in last 2 weeks. Ins. Jetta. Omcd. Bennell. Brown/Weideman outs. Vdberg. Hunt. Smith. Lockhart. Bk- Jetta. Omcd. Lever. Salem. May. Hibberd. Mids - Langdon. Viney. Brayshaw. Gawn Petracca Oliver Fwd - Hannan. Tmcd Melksham Pickett Brown/Weideman. Fritsch int Rivers Harmes Tomlinson Bennell -
Dees treated like rubbish once again. Pert and Bartlett to speak up. They are irrelevant. Earn your very large $$$$.

Gold. Obvious things we have SCREAMED about for a long time. Goody should have analyzed this for the past 5 years. -

Yes Oliver’s last clanger was perfect example -
Schwarz: 'Dees are irrelevant'

Misguided really. I worked in the building profession for 10 years before moving to design work. I know lots of young blokes with good intent but lacked the tool skills. I also had blokes with talent but were lazy. Who is easier to fix? It was often the ones who had the attitude issue that I developed. I think many of our blokes already have effort and intensity. They do play and compete. But a lot of our players haven’t got the core skills. It will take real coaching and development because it’s been ignored for years. Viney and Oliver and even Brayshaw don’t value their possessions. They give it away too easily. I’d invest in intense skill training for the whole club. -

Thanks Dr. This saved me 30 minutes of typing. It’s so clear. Why don’t our footy special coaches get it. Why does it take the weekly footy media to raise it !!! It’s been 18 months of poor execution, dumb footy and poor team structure. -

Agree. Frost had a clanger or two but had 7-8 more defensive efforts than ANY of the current key defenders. His pace and size was excellent for a key defender but another Goody scapegoat!! -
No sugar coating. It’s going to be hard. But like the Power did, you have to be positive *** Demonland - can we merge with Demons Winter adventure post. Perhaps change Sydney adventure.

Trac had another very very good game. Not excellent. I’m tough. You have to be. He is now a bona fide mid imo. Who can also rest forward. He can try to copy Dusty and be dangerous wherever he is His first quarter was A grade. But then he fumbled a few and handballed too often. With such kicking ability, he needs to burst and kick. He created about 5 of our goals yesterday. And we only kicked 8 !!

Q Station Sydney National Park. Manly. North Head. 4 stars. Well located for quarantine. Good walking and team dining facilities. Not quite the Gold Coast resorts but manageable. If that’s it.

What has happened to Clayton Oliver?
spirit of norm smith replied to Elegt's topic in Melbourne Demons
Spot on. He’s not damaging. In fact he either turned over the footy or put his teammates under pressure. One kick to the forward line went at 45 degree angle out of bounds. His handball to Smith cost us a goal. His final clanger killed off any momentum we had. He needs a mentor or special coaching. He has the ability. It’s the execution of delivery that is missing. -
Demonland Player of the Year - Round 05
spirit of norm smith replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I agree. He appears restricted. Definitely not as energetic or at the contest as I would like to see. Not capable of a creative midfield role right now imo -
Yes. I think we will see HB this week v Suns. We need his skill. It will be interesting versus his former team. At least some theatre.

Thanks Demonland for posting. This is what we have been screaming out for years. We win the contested footy against virtually every time. Only the Lions beat us last year in contested footy. But our football skills - kicking and handball are shocking. And the overhandballing is as bad. Often to a teammate under more pressure. -
My 3 word player analysis V Richmond

Gawn was our best by a mile. Hit outs. Marks. Contested marks. Disposals. Efficiency. Tackles. Blocks. He did his very best. -

Btw Riley Beveridge in AFL Website gave Clayton Oliver as our second best player behind Gawn. Was he even watching the game !!!?!?!?! -
Demonland Player of the Year - Round 05

I can’t see how Salem gets votes. He was getting handball receives but not often in the contest. He has also been a culprit of a slow slow style. His delivery is often short 15 metre kicks. I held high hopes for him as a Houli type running half back but he’s not quite there. He was not the worst yesterday but not deserving of votes. -
Steven May, Time for a change?
spirit of norm smith replied to Tom Dyson's topic in Melbourne Demons
Surely we need capitals JUST GIVE WEID OR BROWN A GO IN THE FORWARD LINE for a few weeks. Not just 1-2. We brought in Brown. We need to give either of them 5-6 weeks. Here you go. Yes. It’s not just a fling. -
Steven May, Time for a change?
spirit of norm smith replied to Tom Dyson's topic in Melbourne Demons
May was a forward as a junior and first two years at Suns. Can mark. Great kick. I’d try the Weid first but if all is lost by round 10, I’d experiment with May going forward.
