For years they have tried to set up Punt Road as an entertainment venue for the overflow crowd Might just work this year if they can hire a decent big screen Hell..... I'm jealous
-
harrison himmelberg .... what a name... sounds like a merchant banker

6 goals to 1 that quarter Will take a minor miracle for the Orange Boys to get up from here I do like the way they give off to the player running past after taking a mark but they seem to overuse the tactic of attacking around the boundary line. Would prefer to see them come up the middle ... they may try it in the last quarter
-
Toby Greene isn't doing much... could have a big second half Martin influential but not a game breaker Good open game
-
the commentary last night was much more enjoyable when they finally realised Geelong couldn't win. Their attempts in the third quarter to talk up the game were excruciating. Not sure why we need the constant spruiking. Viewers aren't that dumb...are they?

30 degrees with 60k winds......... not the best day for football

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BALIC
Diamond_Jim replied to ignition.'s topic in Melbourne Demons
I assume it would be a two year contract. Would prefer a one year contract with an option to extend but that does not seem to be the norm. -
Interesting thread but it is way beyond my expertise. As an observer I would like to see us doing some different things when it comes to those dreaded NT games and the following matches. As to the fade outs they seem to come at different stages of the game so one thinks that it is more likely to be an above the shoulders issue.

would be a great addition That 25-40 goal defensive forward is a must have in the scheme of things.......if Bugg could kick straight could he be such a player?

Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
Diamond_Jim replied to stevethemanjordan's topic in Melbourne Demons
On the AFL site 15 Crows players were ranked in front of Lever for last night's game. Their comment was: Jake Lever – 5 Has set a high standard for himself this season and was not quite up to that level. Did his best to float across and impact contests when he could. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-09-22/every-crow-rated-from-the-first-preliminary-final- -
Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
Diamond_Jim replied to stevethemanjordan's topic in Melbourne Demons
were you guys watching a different game.... not even in their top 15 in tonight's game I am sure he is better but not tonight Would you call him in the top 3 or 4 Crows players because that is what we are going to pay this guy... $800k per year ?? -
Take your point Moonshadow. To me those you have named are good players but nowhere near those that were rumored to be moving for the big money during the course of the year... Martin, Fyfe, Kelly etc Went to the North Big Footy board a few days ago and they are lamenting that their money seems to have bought them nothing. IIRC the Unrestricted Free Agents next year aren't a bad crop. There is a lot of talk on the North Board about front loading the team for 2018 so they have even more money available for 2019 and beyond.
-
One result of the bye is that the NRL finals are in synch with the AFL finals. Hard to decide for tonight between the Storm v Broncos and the Adelaide game. Might watch Storm and record the AFL. The Storm game would be a very hot ticket I would have thought.

Interesting that for all the talk of war chests and the squillions available to some clubs following the latest increase in the salary cap, it seems unlikely that there will be much movement at the top echelon. Lever to somewhere (hopefully us) and Stringer for personal reasons but neither really for the money. Even the Hawks seem quiet.

Hope you are right.. China has a habit of saying one thing and doing multiple other things. On the other hand China would be scared of this escalating. They want a puppet State on that border and thus they may be concerned that the increased rhetoric could back fire on the North Korean regime. Hard to imagine the regime falling but after the speed at which Communism fell in the Soviet Union in 1989 who knows. The best outcome would be a Chinese sponsored regime change that ends with a more moderate communist government similar to that operating in China at present. Have just had my son and friends staying with me for a few days. One of the boys is due to go into the South Korean army in the next few weeks to do his two year compulsory military service. I feel for him and his family.

The original rumour was Weid AND our first rounder for 2018 to Collingwood for pick 6. That is nothing but a pick upgrade for an untried number 9 draft pick. Not the greatest deal. 2018 is the key for the Weid one way or the other. Needs to show steady development a la Moore during 2017

Have no problems with GWS as I have absolutely no emotional (good or bad) interest in the team or its players. I am however very interested in them as a team. They are like a Fantasy football team or as others have called it a "science experiment." The perfect test of a team of champions against a champion teams and all those other cliches. When Bulldogs won last year I was gutted as it just emphasised how bad MFC has been for so many years. Nothing like that with a GWS win. Go the Orange Men !!

This finals series has been a big yawn so far... doubt that it will suddenly change The media are hyping Richmond and to a lesser extent Adelaide .. as the song says.... Is that all there is

Is this guy worth a season or two http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-09-20/why-isnt-vfl-ruck-star-nick-meese-playing-afl THE RAW numbers will blow you away. This Northern Knights product is a five-time VFL Team of the Year ruckman, including in each of the past four seasons. His 1088 hit-outs and 273 to advantage in the 2017 home and away season dwarfed the next-best in each category, Box Hill's Hawthorn-listed Marc Pittonet (554) and Werribee's Kangaroo Braydon Preuss (119). No rival VFL big man averaged more than his 5.1 clearances or 6.8 tackles per game, either. He is fifth in contested possessions (9.3) among that group, too. What might surprise you more is that Williamstown strongman Nick Meese, the man in question, has no AFL suitors. Again. And probably never will, given he turns 29 on Saturday.
-
trading for a reserve ruck is a tough one ... ideally you want a KPP who can ruck. If not you are after a back up that sits at Casey... who would want that job and would we be prepared to give up anything (pick or player wise) for such a player
-
people used to that in the old days with fitzroy memberships... admittedly it was full membership but it worked because the clubs got equal access IIRC Fascinating that it might still work 50 years on cheers

Does Max Gawn work for the AFL?
Diamond_Jim replied to La Dee-vina Comedia's topic in Melbourne Demons
Generally in agreement with you OD.. their fence sitting on the Goodes booing was deplorable but on this issue because many organisations are stating their views I think it's to be applauded -
Does Max Gawn work for the AFL?
Diamond_Jim replied to La Dee-vina Comedia's topic in Melbourne Demons
Strangely enough although I think the AFL is often too quick to adopt a cause (it's like cause of the week sometimes) I am in complete agreement with their public stance on this occasion. All types of organisations have weighed in on this issue and I would be disappointed if the AFL "sat on the fence." As a young boy I can vaguely recall walking home with my mother after she had voted in the 1967 referendum. She was/is a conservative voter but she had no problem explaining to me that she was happy to vote yes on that occasion. I would like to think that this issue is carried by a similar proportion of the vote. -
thanks ... was he injured in round 3? It was such a long painful season that those early rounds are now a blur And that is a question on which our potential flag hopes rest. If we have a post injury Max in 2018 we lose a fair percentage of our contested making ability not to mention our clearance dominance (if we ever really had it).
-
Could we have the demonland votes for Max prior to his injury. It is all too easy to concentrate on his second half of the season which was sub par to say the least. This time last year we were all salivating over 2017 with Max at full tilt. He along with Hogan are the players that win you premierships.
