  1. I stand corrected.. used to have a friend whose son played for Port and at that time their players were spread through the SANFL. As you say when there are no injuries it gives them a rather strong side in the local comp which is perhaps why in the earlier years they were spread around. Out of interest who usually wins the games when the VFL state side play their other state equivalents. One small way of gauging the relative strengths of the various comps.
  2. Just watch out for Professor Moriarty and that damned waterfall
  3. Good point BB. Although I like following Casey (it is like "bruise free supporting") I was having a similar thought today. None of the interstate teams* have a "reserves team" and they do very well as a group by comparison to the Melbourne teams. *Not sure if Port AFL players play for Port SANFL these days...
  4. you could be onto something here Sherlock
  5. He and Gawn are our big match winners. If they both fire consistently during the season such that week after week they are both in the top ten on the ground we will have a great season. It is becoming obvious that his position is now CHF wherever that is these days so I expect his annual goal tally to be around 30 which still leaves that perennial question... "who will kick our goals." How many times did we hit 100 points ... not often if I recall. He is contracted until the end of 2019 so at least we will not be consumed by contract discussions in 2018. Good luck Jesse ... you certainly deserve some !
  6. I'm a big supporter of increasing the draft age up to 19 or 20. Could be done over a period of years... say 3 months at a time.. and thus not dramatically affect the available talent. As to the "under age comps" I'm flexible but you could simply introduce a new tier of say "under 20's". Perhaps this discussion is worth a new thread
  7. The Port Big Footy Site is painful reading.... No complaints against that last free and overall acceptance... To MFC supporters this comment may resonate: " The mental fragility of this team will see us crumble following this game for next season" https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/a-fitting-end.1176756/page-2
  8. might be cathartic to head over to the Port Board on Big Footy or similar Will be interested in the replays. On TV it looked like a clear free kick but who knows
  9. 18k average... ok it is good by comparison to Sydney which has how many teams? 18k in a city of 4 plus million after almost 30 years doesn't smack of success in my book No FTA coverage.. no game coverage on radio... hardly notice them in the newspaper etc etc
  10. score reviews are the new lottery Time to invest in some decent cameras Arguably a two goal swing against the Eagles from the two reviews
  11. has the potential ability to be a Gunston type player ........ definitely worth considering
  12. Great onfield success but have not really developed a following in Melbourne....almost no media coverage Understandable perhaps but a lesson for the AFL interesting article here on the role of ANZ Stadium in NRL.......seems that no one likes it https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2017/aug/28/a-lonely-sea-of-blue-seats-why-anz-stadium-is-nobodys-home-ground
  13. if Daniher had kicked straight at Docklands we would have been about 5 goals down at half time. We too are pretty ordinary
  14. Could not agree more.. not sure it can be rectified He does not do much leading either A long way to go. Objectively other than being one year older this season was a non event for Weideman
  15. Nice place to watch footy at. What is the admission price for Mfc members. If I recall the $5 deal only applies to the home and away games. Would be good to see a strong performance... Frankly any glimpse of good news would be welcome
  16. Agree.. Gws for the win.. It will actually hasten their irrelevance I believe.. Not to mention see a few players leave for big dollars
  17. ah.. the fateful shoulder injury against the Dogs...BOG for around the six previous weeks IIRC Why is being an MFC supporter full of so many bad memories
  18. Thanks so there are disposal questions on two number 3 draft picks.... why am I astounded
  19. remind me .... he was 2 or 3 in the draft so I hope he can kick!
  20. almost going to script. will japan do an adelaide and lose to saudi arabia? Like MFC the socceroos look gone on percentage after a less than convincing win over Thailand
  21. Slightly hijacking this thread but internet issues overseas make it hard to start another. I cannot help but think that the Socceroos against Thailand is the same as us V Collingwood. Permutations are so similar. The article below even has that wonderful comment we have heard so many times: If we can't beat Thailand we don't deserve to be in the World Cup https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/sep/04/milovan-rajevac-led-thailand-a-chance-to-break-socceroo-hearts-again For the round ball afficianados who are the socceroo's "Watts and Tyson". Is Cahill their pedo?
  22. Interesting article with a slightly different take on the reasons for success of the Melbourne Storm. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-09-01/hinds:-the-secret-to-melbourne-storms-consistent-success/8860566 The references to pre-season is particularly interesting Makes one wonder how it could be applied to AFL. Perhaps a pre pre season for MFC hopefuls
