2019 Fixture
they ran that rumour last year.. didn't happen It was the Pies who were anxious to maximise the gate Not sure the Pies are too worried about who they play in the opening round next year as long as it's a home game for them

2019 best 22 and depth chart
must say I tend to agree. I suppose our problem is that the list is comparatively shallow in that there were at best 3-4 players at VFL level that in 2018 pushed for senior selection. After the big delist 2019 may be different.

2019 best 22 and depth chart
very interesting... worth a thread of its own over the off season perhaps History says no... play your best 22 etc

Would we take $cully back?
PS: Apparently the twist is that if he never plays for the Hawks then nothing goes into the salary cap Fascinating

Farewell Jesse Hogan

Would we take $cully back?
there is a formula . When the AFL accepts that the player has a career ending injury (not just getting old) the club can pay a lump sum to settle the remaining contract obligation. The lump sum receives favourable treatment for salary cap purposes. (Not sure of the precise details).

All quiet on the salary front for Hogan... could there yet be a twist in this tale
-
Farewell Jesse Hogan
come on... he's a fourth rounder have a look at the Scully deal if you want a baseline

Farewell Jesse Hogan
KK is pick 50 plus so please don't include him in the trade talk. Like Kent he's a simple peripheral trade Might make some feel better but it's not a factor
-
Jack Scrimshaw
ah... there's often a catch wonder who's paying the salary?

Farewell Jesse Hogan
the Kelly case worries me a little in that it could be an instance of a player going for the money. Sure there is the go home factor but there is no doubt that the WCE offer for 2019 will be more than his Cat's contract. I applaud players following the money as they have very limited careers but perhaps there has to be some limits. Now if Kelly came out and said any overs for 2019 would be donated to an indigenous charity then my skepticism would be abated somewhat.

well argued Hemingway but personal services contracts have rarely been enforced in any industry as no one wants a disgruntled employee. What is done is that you have them stand out of the industry for 6-12 months but even that is fraught with difficulties. You could have an AFL imposed condition that you must stand out for half a season. Any longer and it would almost certainly get struck down as unenforceable. Even half a season might be too long. Of course the AFL likes the movement of players.. it's the clubs who hate it.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
must say I cannot see what good three draft picks under 10 will do for the Suns. They need solid senior players. They'll be lucky to hold two of those 6 top 30 picks beyond 3 years. Pity we can't talk Hogan into going north May and a top ten draft pick would be a breeze.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
so what happened to the 8 x $1M that Hogan was reportedly asking for last night.
-
Farewell Jesse Hogan
May is on a reported $900k so not a great difference
-
Farewell Jesse Hogan
would MFC offer 8 x $1m? Not sure I would
-
Farewell Jesse Hogan
8 x $1M actually sounds a decent deal for Freo. I can understand the thinking by Hogan. he's going back to a town where he cannot change clubs easily and obviously going home is big. If I was his manager I would have been asking 4 x $1.1 with an extra 100k in years 3 and 4. As others have said with the expected increment in salary payments he will be around their 5th top paid player in four years. Now about the navicular?? And of course salary has nothing to do with trade value save that with high salaries go high trade picks. This sounds like amateur hour all round... Managers are paid to do these deals months if not years in advance.

Ah.. but could it be the AFL wanting young Belly to play the role of Black Hat Bart in its Wednesday evening drama.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
tell me it can't be true... my core beliefs are being questioned here

Farewell Jesse Hogan
now that was a movie,,, they used to play the original version as the midday movie every Cup day

Farewell Jesse Hogan
had forgotten that Oprah co starred in that movie. It was mainly Whoopi who is remembered for her role and nomination as best actress. Oprah did star in Beloved. No biscuits as I recall in either movie.

Rumour File
GCS are in serious trouble most managers of the top 8 draftees would have been having a word with GCS re the difficulties their charges would face if moving to the club. The comments by the Port list manager are to be expected. What is the worst the AFL will do... "you should not have said it" and we all move on. GCS need to get in senior players that they can keep and build from there. They really are a serious basket case

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - KADE KOLODJASHNIJ
Cannot believe how the AFL has managed to extend its product into the October/November period. Other sports cannot get any media coverage. Brilliant startegy even if I hate it. Listening to an Age journo speaking on the ABC this morning their trade pieces get bigger clicks than those on the finals simply because every follower is interested in the trades.

Would we take $cully back?
Agree it's a bargain but remember that GWS are agreeing to it. While Scully is not entitled to say I will only go to Hawthorn he is entitled to reject being traded to a named club. Same as what Hogan has done to us with Freo. Obviously the Giants modelled their salary cap on a flag in 2017 and 2018. Understandable if you think about it. Now they have to do something drastic. Heard on the radio yesterday that Collingwood might be a chance for Patton. If so makes the decision to trade Lobb even more puzzling.
