in those days football on TV was a rarity so you just thanked your lucky stars for the opportunity. Remember the Winners on the ABC with the boys. These days the product is very different and the commentary needs to move away from gee whiz etc. Even the analysis is covered better in other shows. Take a page from Soccer commentary or even F1 where understatement is the key.

I was pondering the vision of Aussie Rules in the early years of the twenty second century. A bit of Jetson's like images came into my head. Drones delivering your pie (would of course by then be vegan sushi) to the crowd sitting in their hover chairs. No need for runners as all players will be fitted with telepathic chips providing instant communication with the coach who could well be an AI device. PS of course one thing would not change..they'd still be tinkering with the 19th century train lines.

it would have been a very lonely time over the last fifty years if you were only interested in the MFC. As Sue points out also it is the relative positions that count. I cannot recall MFC ever being in a position where it made finals in a demonstrative manner. We have always been last minute Charlies on the few occasions we have graced the grass in September

I found the use of Daniels on the last line interesting but on balance I thought that it almost cost them the game. There were multiple occasions when he was isolated with De Goey who luckily for the Bulldogs missed most of his shots on goal. More particularly however I thought it robbed the Dogs of a key playmaker in the forward half. The Dogs forward delivery was lamentable. Hard to see them doing much damage if they continue the stop start play of last evening. Collingwood were saved by Cox...I don't think they will be coming after the Weid. Comments about Moore being "almost elite" were cringeworthy.

Last night's game in the balance... no hype necessary and someone says... "I think the next goal decides this." What an unnecessary and inane comment. They were words for the sake of it and were just a guess being neither a comment on play or expert opinion. Do these commentators think their viewers are fools.

it is the Robert Rose Cup so nothing amiss

Most people would have said Collingwood have been playing well but if they lose tonight they will be 1 and 3. Same for Tigers if they lose against Port. We have been terrible but we're not out of it by any means IF.....

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BRAYDON PREUSS
Diamond_Jim replied to What's topic in Melbourne Demons
This was a great coaching move by the brains trust. By playing Preuss out of the goal square Aliir was forced to play deep. Aliir was still effective but by making him start his rebound from deep in our 50 metre area he was nullified somewhat. Makes you wonder if we would have done even better with a more mobile forward/relief ruck such as Kielty but on his form last night Preuss deserves his spot against the Saints. PS... Useless fact... A Roman Century only had around 60 men except for the first century of a legion which was double strength. -
same here OD. I think we need a chaos season (like our gameplan) where upsets are many creating a virtual log jam from top to bottom. ? 3 or 4 games separating top from bottom at the bye would be good.

Casey Demons v North Melbourne VFL - Round 2
Diamond_Jim replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
So it's the Wale in the ruck.... good luck young man I see North's ruck, Mirran is a VFL listed player as well. Did North have a relief ruck other than Majak Daws at AFL level? Be interested in knowing from the Casey regulars if Lockhart has had back problems before. -
wins by North and Carlton would benefit us. A win by Port over Richmond would make life interesting. Collingwood v Bulldogs could be a great tussle. Freo over Eagles would also make my weekend

Bruce at the Olympics was good. His adulation of the stars seemed to hit the right note but week in week out at the footy it has become tiring and over the last two years or so has become annoying. He has also become an Eddie everywhere (Melbourne Cup carnival etc) that has compounded the problem. For years I have been calling out for alternative commentary styles or as KK mentioned a crowd sound only option.Increasingly these days I watch games with the mute button firmly engaged.

The point remains... I think at one stage we lead hit outs 34-2 but the midfield was being smashed. Gawn is a generational player that we need to leverage and it's reasonable to expect a gameplan/tactics that does that.
-
Gawn... needs a gameplan seriously... how do you dominate in the ruck but get beaten in the midfield Goodwin... Lift your gameplan
-
Good win .. Sydney are a bottom 6 team. Saints should be a win and then we shall see
-
come on///the next two please!!!

from the afl website Lance Franklin has won his first one-on-one contest for the night against Sam Frost. Prior to this match he won 38 per cent of his offensive one-on-one contests this season, ranked first of the top ten players to be involved in a contest across the league.

5 goals to 1 from a team that doesn't score heavily how bad can our defence be
