  1. His ramblings are as bad if not worse than Robbo and I never thought that was possible.
  2. I also hope we thrash Freo but I have no ill will toward Jackson. I'm indifferent. And I wouldn't like to see him becoming a whipping boy for Freo fans if he doesn't live up to his contract and the hype. He wasn't the only player that didn't give his all this season. Goodwin said as much after the first semi. I see him as an immature, not too bright 21 year old. Having said that I am surprised his manager or someone else didn't ghost write a decent 'thank you' message for him for mfc and its fans. Sam Weideman set a fine example in that regard.
  3. 'Footywire' which is usually fairly accurate is showing a two year contract for Hunter. This is the same as the remaining term he had at WBD I'll update the Contracts Thread for Hunter. If anyone sees any other info on his contract please let me know.
  4. 'Footywire' which is usually fairly accurate is showing a one year contract for Schache. It surprises me as when a player changes club it is usually for a minimum of 2 years. If it is one year it really gives Schache a strong message to decide how much he wants a football career. I'll update the Contracts Thread for Schache. If anyone sees any other info on his contract please let me know.
  5. While there seems to be little in the media on his Freo contract 'Footywire' which is usually right shows it to be until 2029 ie a seven year contract. Hope for his sake he delivers on his early promise.
  6. Quote: "Had doubts, didn't communicate them as they re-signed him and then asked him to present a case" Quote: "Fancy having a freshly-minted two-year contract then having to desperately pitch for your job." Quote: "...club leadership that admitted you weren’t given the best chance to succeed and subsequently made you plead for your job…" So they decide to sack him having effectively recruited his replacement. They let the man believe he had a chance when he didn't and they knew it. They still made him beg for his job. Then hit him for six. Why would they put a good man who gave his all through that sort of torment. The least they could have done was give him a heads up after the season ended or when Bassat came back from the cruise on Lindsay Fox's boat when it seems they hatched their plan. No, they chose to blindside him. And put him through a public humiliation. Disgraceful! It is good to see those media tweets pointing the finger where it belongs: Lethlean and Bassat!! I mentioned at the start of this thread that Lethlean had a lot to answer for. Well Bassat also does. The Saints deserve better leadership than they have provided. Both should go. I so feel for Ratten. He has been through so much in his coaching and personal life. He deserved much, much better. Not the least, some humanity and care.
  7. I''ve been ambivalent to David King and his rantings. He has sunk to a new low with this: sam-weideman-traded-to-essendon-most-frustrating-player-never-needs-a-shower-analysis-bombers-must-hire-new-coach Of all the players traded King had to go and ridicule Sam. A pathetic attack on a young man who is rightly excited about a new opportunity. There were other players traded who had weaknesses who he could have picked on. But I'm glad he didn't. No player deserves that sort of commentary, least of all Sam.
  8. 2019? I thought it was 2020 when DL became fever pitch on this. Maybe they weren't entirely wrong as the President and at least one Board member were simultaneously in the throes of getting AFL approval to sack him. So the DL angst wasn't entirely unfounded. Nonetheless your point is very valid: the clubs that back in their coach and stay the distance, support them properly are the ones that experience success.
  9. I thought that too. But having 3 ex senior coaches working for the senior coach probably wouldn't be the best mix of support for Goodwin.
  10. I wasn't critical of the Corrigan decision. I was referring to ex-geelong players 'going home'/appointed to FD roles: Byrnes, Mackie, Taylor, Egan, Kelly last year and now Corrigan.
  11. They recruited only one player, Zaine Cordy who hadn't been offered a contract so not too much damage done. Hunter Clarke might feel aggrieved.
  12. It is the things not on the public record that made Hunter a problem child at WBD. Think 'rat pack' behaviours. Think culture. Think the persistent reasons Dunkley kept asking for a trade. Anyway, he is ours now. We have done our due diligence and the club thinks they can reahab him. So hopefully he lives to mfc standards and doesn't distract anyone.
  13. Hannebery arrived a few years before Ratten. Jones and Hlll arrived when he was caretaker coach or just taken over as senior coach so he probably didn't have much say in their recruitment. He has only been in the job for a few years, hardly enough time to make his mark let alone have an impact.
  14. I would think Lethlean would have a bit to answer for. Has now been there for 5 years and as GM Football presided over the recruiting and re-contracting of Ratten. He presided over the list management strategy and decisions which included getting his mate Hannebery on a very lucrative contract. Hannebery played 16 games in those 4 years! And the recruitment of HIll on another lucrative long term contract. Tough for a coach to operate with those decisions which are like shackles. Another rebuild awaits. Another decade in the doldrums. Now, Lethlean is being promoted to CEO. Ratten gets the boot!
  15. Not only are they luring players to their little patch but now luring football department staff out of other clubs I doubt there is anyone in the FD that is not an ex Geelong player (except C Scott). Becoming quite incestuous down the road!
  16. Some clubs are lobbying to ensure that when a club are 'paid' to take player as a 'salary dump' they take the player's existing contract $ into their sal cap even tho they enter a different contract with that player which spreads that contract over more years. imv this is essential to stop the Cats fiasco where they get Bowes and pick 7 but effectively do not take on his contract. The idea of the 'salary dump' was assumed to help bottom of the ladder clubs that would have the cap space. There is absolutely no reason why the AFL didn't ensure that Geelong booked the whole of Bowes GCS contract into their TPP. If a club doesn't have the cap space they should not be putting in for a 'sal dump' trade. Mega fail by the AFL. #freekickgeelong.
  17. Updated for Baker's delisting. Assuming the existing list mix of the list: 36 senior, 6 A-Rookies we have 2 senior spots and 3 A-Rookie list spots available. That mix can change as outline in the chart (bottom left corner). Given we plan to take two picks in the draft any DFA we recruit would come in as an A-Rookie. The number of games will be updated with the final version after the draft. Edit: Updated Oct 15 for Hunter (2 years) and Schache (one) contract length as per 'Footywire'.
  18. They were the rules until 2020 and the AFL changed them to allow more picks than list spots supposedly to help during covid. Ironically it helped just a few clubs. Terrible situation in a supposedly equalised league. Without going too MFCSS, you can bet that they will close that loophole when we need picks for Brown just like the NGA rule changes were the year we were due to draft Andrew Mac! We could sure do with him now as a developing ruckman!
  19. Haven't seen that but if there is a report for that I'm happy to change the chart.
  20. 2022: 53 and 63 2023: Rnd 2 (tied to Coll), Rnd 3 (tied to Freo) Hmm, not sure how they managed to trade out rnd 4 and rnd 1 next year as technically that isn't allowed. But the data on the AFL website may not have been updated for the flurry of late trades. Oh well, slim pickings for them this year. They will have to trade out players next year to avoid the same. Both Hardwick and Dusty are out of contract in 2024. Maybe he is going all out for another premiership in the next two years then perhaps move on?
  21. The AFL has a max list size of 42 players (plus 2 B-Rookies) so to get the DFA ruckman and 2 draftees we would need to have one less A- Rookie compared to the 2022 mix.
  22. I like the cheeky chip at Geelong: Don't all the players go there!
  23. Post Trade Week A lot to unpack there. Some contract info still to come and those players are in the boxes shaded 'orange'. I think we will lose Baker as we are getting tight for senior spots. Based on the current mix we have one spot left unless we go in with more senior players next year. Updated for the departure of Sam Weideman and the arrival of Grundy, Schache and Hunter. I've included the Draft picks for 2022/23. We have a very nice little pot to play with: 13, 37. Freo F1, F2 and our own F1, F2. Amazing to get the calibre of players we have for late draft picks and the loss of loyal servants who deserve to chase opportunities elsewhere: Bedford, Hunt and Weideman. And of course there is the wantaway ruckman! On balance we have greatly improved our list.
  24. The Dunkley trade: Brisbane receives Josh Dunkley, a future third-round selection and a future fourth-round selection (tied to Melbourne) Western Bulldogs receive a second-round pick (currently No.21), a future first-round selection, a future second-round selection and a future fourth-round selection (tied to Geelong) Thought the F4 swap interesting. One tied to Geelong, one tied to us. It will probably be pick 60 something for pick 60 something and the advantage could go either way. Hardly worth swapping.
