  1. Found it. (Search feature is my friend 🙃) Not sure which forum it is in... Edit: Oops, found it the General Discussion Forum. Just read the thread. Someone really ruffled @WalkingCivilWar's feathers. Not sure it is a good idea to ruffle the feathers of a 'ranga' - fiery at the best of times😍
  2. I can't find it Andy. It was on the main Board this morning.
  3. Can we merge this with @WalkingCivilWarthread which is also a great thread. TIA Umm, what happened to her thread? I haven't been on DL all afternoon but it seems to have disappeared from the main Forum page? 😟 Did someone derail it?
  4. Can't disagree. The bulldogs have only a handful of 'impact' players or players that regularly and consistently hurt the opp: Bontempelli, Smith, Naughton and maybe Libertore who will soon be 31. As mentioned elsewhere, their midfield is no longer elite imv. Then they have a stack of young highly talented players with potential whose impact will wax and wane during the season. I include English in this group. I also put Treloar in this group as he is often injured. Of course, each and every one of them will have some games where they star but I doubt they can put enough together to succeed. The challenge for them is getting the max from the two groups of players while trying to build on field cohesion after all the list and position changes in the off season. Interesting that Beveridge chose to not play a scratch match. Bound to have something up his sleeve. Maybe they did a bit of experimenting but I see a need for them to experiment a lot more with their position changes and cohesion. Doubt they will make the 8. We will beat them round 1.
  5. Count down clock: 4.5 hours to go!! 🙏🤞for us!
  6. Context? If context is GF tickets, 1 = those with a GFG plus others; 2 = long term members (could be 20 or 25 years) plus others, 3 = Other membership types eg 3yr, GA etc.
  7. Agreed. I usually don't indulge chat about player salaries but I could see the Rivers numbers could easily become a DL 'truth' o I was aiming to bring a bit of realism into the figures for him and put in some in perspective of the overall AFL cap allocation.
  8. Probably not the right thread but this might be of interest to posters: https://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/average-afl-player-salary-rises-to-over-400000/news-story/dfbef989ad02b5f36dcfe04f87d25316 For the average to be just over $400K a lot of players are earning much less, even allowing for rookies (if they are included) dragging down the average. and https://www.afl.com.au/news/874936/million-dollar-dozen-stars-cash-in-player-pay-hits-new-high Only about 25% of all players get over $500
  9. Not too sure about 12-18. More 16-24
  10. Given that Freo first offer to Acres was in the range I mentioned there doesn't seem to be a minimum. Rivers would have got a bonus for winning the premiership but not sure how much that affects future contracts. But who knows what his figure is and would we meet it? As an aside, if every player earnt a minimum of $300k that would take up about 75% of the salary cap. Doesn't leave much for the stars.
  11. More like 3/4 * $250-$300. Usually, the longer the term the less money. Freo offered Acres about $150-200k, grossly undervaluing him (to help get Jackson). They upped it a little bit but he went to Carlton anyway: "Acres is one of a number of Fremantle players who were offered below-par contracts to stay at the club, with the Blues pouncing on the chance to secure the 26-year-old on a three-year deal at around $350,000 per season". Just can't see Rivers who is still only 21 and yet to cement himself in the best 22 getting the same as Acres. I think as fans we tend to overestimate what players get paid especially those outside the top 5-10.
  12. Going by his comment it is safe to say Rivers will extend his own contract which expires this year.🙂
  13. What can one say? On the one hand I wish you could be at the G to witness our next premiership🙃 On the other hand may it is best to stay away...😉🤔
  14. They haven't added anyone to cover Dunkley's class or Hunters footy IQ. So you are correct they will spread the workload but overall will be lesser for the losses.
  15. In one of the training threads around mid Feb it was mentioned that someone stood on his foot. Don't think he missed any training sessions before then. So from a fitness and training point of view he should be right to go when his foot is healed.
  16. Not so sure about their midfield these days. They lost Dunkley and Hunter but no one of note has replaced them. They have Smith, a perennially injured Treloar, Bontempelli, McCrae and Liberatore to cover the midfield and the wings. And English as their ruckman now without their 'back up', Dunkley. I don't see that group being anywhere near as damaging as they have in the past and certainly not against our elite mid/wing/ruck brigade. Even adding Williams and McClean who give them some depth, put quite simply their midfield is no longer elite, imv.
  17. Talking of the MRP (and not really for this thread) but will DeGoey's sling tackle be looked at? Can't remember the Hawks player but his head bounced off the ground. Edit: jordan-de-goey-tackle-on-lloyd-meek-match-review-
  18. At least one of them was from a mark. He may get the distance but when the ball falls short or is a point it is low value. From a team view he should find a better placed target or to the top of the goal square. I honestly doubt Chandler can kick a goal from 45-50m out very often even with no wind. As I say; a low percentage shot. It didn't hurt us yesterday but might in a tight game.
  19. Chandler worked really hard but I wondered whether he feels he has to start kicking goals so took low percentage shots (two I think) from the 45-50m range. Not sure he should have licence to kick for goal from that range especially when there is a breeze. The ball floats off line or tapers off at the end. At least one of the two was a point. If he doesn't have the distance he should aim for the top of the goal square. He could learn from Spargo who always looks for a closer target when he is that far out. Spargo knows his limitations and plays to his strengths.
  20. Extracting one sentence from a post might suit your comments but removes its context. To recap the context: The point I was making was that the 5-7 injured players could not be replaced. Given that we had to play those injured players I posed the question would we have been better by playing Bowey/JVR in lieu of Hunt/Melksham/Rivers. I also posed the question would we not have benefited from playing our sub, Joel Smith when the injured players were spent and the momentum was turning. So if you are going to quote me please quote the whole post or at least the part that gives context. Re the bold part of your post above. I made no mention of Baker or Dunstan. For JVR refer back to the opening post which states he was ready to play for Max. That doesn't sound like he was underdone. So for me to suggest JVR might have served us better than Melksham is not so far fetched. As it was Melksham played only 69% of the game. Reasonable to think that JVR could have played 3 quarters.
  21. Anyone else notice Petracca was slightly limping when he walked off at half time - favouring his left leg😟
  22. Pretty sure all clubs try to keep injuries under wrap especially those that can be easily targetted in future games. Lots of porkies are told by clubs but realistically there are no secrets in AFL. News gets out one way or another if not to the media certainly to other clubs. Everyone knows about Fritta's foot injury - it was mentioned in training reports and I'm sure lazy media read them. Good players get physically targetted even if not injured.
  23. Agreed. We had a very good chance to win the semi but doubt we would have won a prelim given our injury list. Nonetheless, a win in the semi would have saved a straight set exit and stopped the run of third/fourth quarter fade outs.
