Thanks, forgot that one...

Agreed. Oddly, Scott said Optus suited their style of play. Yet, this was the first game they have won there in several attempts. Maybe he was pumping up his player's confidence. Optus might suit their game but it suits ours better. And we have won several games there vs the Eagles and the crowd. We can draw on that for confidence. Like you I think that whatever positives Geelong take out of playing at Optus ours trumps theirs.

Don't feel sorry for them. August for us was: Melbourne-Brisbane tarmac-Melbourne-Perth-Melbourne-(Geelong)-Adelaide-Perth. And most of that in some form of quarantine. They had a very soft second half of the season. Crocodile tears!
-
Has anyone in WA heard of Geelong? Unlikely. A backwater to them. We will have the neutral crowd cheering for us as well as our own fans. Lets hope it helps the umpires make good decisions.
-
If Geelong were playing Sydney last night, I doubt we would be playing Geelong next week. Sydney would be a more formidable opp next week, especially if Buddgy decided to turn it on. Happy but nervous to be playing Geelong.

It could easily happen that next year an interstate Premier says players who aren't vaccinated cannot enter their state or must do 14 days quarantine. Player has a choice: get vaccinated or stay home.

It is bizzare for Bontempelli to have nearly 3 times the votes of the second place getter, Walsh. And, surely, every player knows who Oliver is! Not saying Bontempelli shouldn't have won but to not have Oliver, Wines in the top 5 is bizzare. Usually the players get it right. Not this year.

I don't think TMc is playing anywhere near his best. Whether it is back issues, poor form or a different role since Brown started to play, or some combo who knows. His role since Brown arrived isn't really clear, as lately Brown has been playing up the field quite a bit. With a two week rest before the Prelim lets hope TMc returns to form.

Great read, thanks. Sensational synergy with the West Perth Football Club. Couldn't have scripted it better: West Perth Football Club welcomed the Demons to its facility: “It seems only appropriate we throw our support behind the red and the blue. Same song, same colours, rich history and we are on the band wagon,” the club posted on Facebook. And the team is staying at the nearby Joondalup. Well done to local dee fans: "WA-based Melbourne supporters club Western Demons secretary Joan Lawson, of Duncraig, said she would ring Joondalup Resort to ask if they could tie red and blue ribbons around the trees to “let the players know we’re here”. While the team won't see us parading our colours to training etc it is good to know they will be surrounded by red and blue. Reckon we will be the sentimental favourites for the rest of our WA journey! Can't wait for the Prelim.

Lifting of curfew wasn't on yesterdays eased restrictions for Sept 23. I'm sure there will be many thousands of others doing the same, Doc
-
If folks are thinking of pushing the envelope and visit others/have visitors keep in mind that if it is a twilight game, it will finish after the Melbourne curfew time of 9.00 pm AEST. So getting home undetected might be tricky

Don't know. Can only guess that gate takings and sponsorship monies go to the AFL. I would like to hear the AFL come out and tell us what the deal was. After all. it has spent millions this year putting East Coast teams into resorts for quarantine every other week and is bringing millions in to house teams during the finals campaign. Surely a bit of a windfall for the Perth economy. I wonder how the news of no payment is going down at the cash strapped Clubs who have had to put off staff etc. They are the ones who will have to budget the million dollar losses already endured. Time for Gil to explain to fans who contribute a few million to Clubs, what the deal is.

McGowan Gloats Its one thing to gloat about denying Eddie entry, to '...keep him safe from West Australians'. Its quite another to disclose and brag about not paying the AFL a cent for hosting the GF. I'm really surprised the AFL would agree to no payment, as a purported reason of having the GF interstate was to raise money as well as have crowds. I wonder how SA and Qld feel about that disclosure, if they were prepared to pay... McGowan: “We‘ve just said we’ll do a Covid-safe game if you come here - and we are not giving you any money and that’s your choice...So we drove a pretty hard bargain. I didn’t want to hand over $20 million.” Covid-safe? Sure but he wouldn't hesitate to close down the event on the morning of the game. No money, no crowds!! Would rather the GF go to a State where it is welcomed rather than used for political point scoring. And it is very poor form to boast when his draconian border restrictions prevent us from attending. It is like rubbing salt into a wound. A bit of empathy for our plight and some diplomacy wouldn't go astray. It is a privilege to host the GF and he should treat that privilege with some respect.

Will Nathan Jones get a farewell game?
Lucifers Hero replied to Redbeard's topic in Melbourne Demons
Can't see Jones getting back. Hasn't played a full game for a long time so his calf hasn't been tested in match conditions. With any player it takes a few games after a long time out to hit their straps again and regain touch etc. So even as the medi sub he would be a risky selection. If there was a plan to bring him back he would have been selected before now to get that match conditioning. For the last 18 months his tackling, chasing and other defensive work has been poor. We now play fast and defensive football. Don't think there is a spot for him. -
AFL website has Hunt as 'Test'. Marty Hore Knee Season Jayden Hunt Ankle Test Aaron Nietschke Knee Season Adam Tomlinson Knee Season Updated: Tuesday, August 31 He should be fine for the Prelim.

The AFL appealed the Houli 2 week ban because they thought it was 'manifestly inadequate'. The ban was increased to 4 weeks on appeal. Not sure how the appeal rules work but it looks like they were able to challenge the sentence without risk of overturning the guilty verdict.

I'm wondering if a reason for taking the whole list is so that the team can play practice matches in the bye weeks. Of course, giving the whole list the chance to participate in a finals campaign atmosphere will be invaluable and rewarding for them. I reckon Burgess will have the team cherry ripe whenever they play. 🤞🙏
-
I think the AFL is planning a GF parade so that all teams in the GF will be out of quarantine in time for the parade. Of course if Port and Demons win the prelims then exiting quarantine isn't relevant. But after the Prelims it will be too late to cancel the bye and bring everything fwd a week. Tbh, I'm really pleased for the players to have a GF parade and for it to be a bit more normal and a bit more special for them, especially if ours are in it. But for us fans it extends the tortuous wait.

If Geelong is the beneficiary it won't matter to us as it means they beat us in the Prelim.

Interstate fans opportunity to access Grand Final Tickets
Lucifers Hero replied to Lucifers Hero's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm trying to remember how 2018 worked. I think it went like this: Priority 1. Memberships that had a GFG: Redlegs, Legends, and GFG add ons. I think there were some types also in this category. Priority 2. Regular Home, Home and Away memberships, of which there are various categories. Plus some others. Priority 3. All other memberships eg 3 game memberships, Country memberships etc. I can't recall if we had 'Access Memberships' back then. There were fixed time slots for each priority group to purchase. But this could well have changed especially as the GF is not at the G and ticketing could be very different. So best to contact the club. I've found they are responding to emails within 24 hours. As an aside, In 2018 my niece had a 3-game membership and I, a Redlegs membership. The only way we could sit together was if I dropped down to Priority 3 and booked it with hers. While we didn't make it to the GF I wanted to ensure that if we ever did she could go too so since then I've bought her a Redlegs. Little did I know that even if we made the GF covid would upset that little plan. Murphy's Law. Edit: Just saw @grazmanpost. Now I'm really doubting my memory. Best to check the club. -
The last one with Heppell happened on Sunday. It was in play, he took several steps toward the umpire and must have seen him yet pushed him in the chest and upper arm which were forceful enough to force him back. Went round him only after the umpire had been pushed out of Heppell's path. Didn't try to pull up. Didn't look back. Didn't apologise. Not even cited by MRO. And before folks pile on, I fully recognise the difference with the Toby incident. Just surprised the MRO didn't even have it in the 'events reviewed' category and explain why no penalty was appropriate.

Collective sigh of relief at Geelong!

The quote was from the AFL website and it seems like it was poor reporting. Poor reporting aside. They could hold the plane for 30 minutes and be there when sentenced. imv it would be the smart and brave thing to do.

GREENE DEPARTS TRIBUNAL 12.56pm: Toby Greene has been forced to leave the AFL Tribunal, as Greater Western Sydney has a flight to catch to Western Australia for Friday night's semi-final against Geelong. The Tribunal has been informed that he will phone in on his way to the airport. Anyone else think this is disrespectful to the Tribunal. Like he has assumed he will get off with a fine. They fly on Chartered flights, surely they could hold the plane for another 30 minutes. One would hope that is poor reporting and he asked to 'take leave of proceedings' rather than just up and go.

True, but why would he say being closer to Collingwood FC. Can't see its relevance.
