This is exactly right. Apart from 3 or 4 games he was pretty poor this year, hesitant & often beaten. Should have been dropped but the selectors probably thought it a good investment to give him games he didn't deserve. On this year's form he wouldn't be in Freos team.

Fully agree. Shows good footy smarts & positioning. Seems to have much better footy instincts than Farris-White, Bradtke & Verrall had.

That's an ill informed & rather snarky response there Head. You should read Hassa's interview about the matter or even do some basic research. He had won 3 B&F's, was the leading goal kicker & Captain & was refused a modest pay rise so he was very peed off & left. The Club was struggling badly at the time yet the muppets running it let their skipper & best player walk. The same muppets also lost Dillon, Parke, Leahy, Jacobs, Gallery & Brewer which was partly why we were bottom feeders for so long.

Fun fact. Hassa would have finished his career at Melbourne but left in 1968 when the Club refused his request for a modest pay rise. He then went to WA & played another 4 years on a better deal. With that sort of administration it's no wonder we became a basket case Club.

Not sure of what your point is other than maybe you enjoy bricks landing on your head. The fact that us (& Richmond) passed JM & DG in the main draft is irrelevant. In the PSD we effectively had a clear choice of 2 & demonstrably got it wrong. Find a worse drafting decision we have made or go & find more bricks.

Not exactly correct. This was the 2009 Pre Season Draft. Only 7 players were taken. We took JM with pick 1 & Richmond got Grimes with pick 2. A terrible blunder.

In hindsight yes but Scully/Trengove were pretty much universally acknowledged as 1 & 2 that year.

It was actually a shocker as DG was a gun. Cant think of a worse draft blunder at that time. There was a lot of speculation about Dylan Grimes as his brother Jack was at Melbourne & we had the first pick. Worse was that Dean Bailey & the Club went on a mini PR spree telling supporters about the recruiting coup & what a gun JM was when he was at best an average plodder.

2010 Pre Season Draft We selected Joel McDonald who had been delisted by Brisbane. Played 44 games. Despite having Jack Grimes at the Club we overlooked Dylan Grimes who went next pick - 234 games, AA, B&F, 3 Flags & Captain. Probably our best deal was effectively getting Bernie Vince for Col Sylvia in 2013. Colin played only 6 games for Freo while Bernie played 100 for us & won a B&F.
