"We're a troubled team at Hawthorn"!!!
rjay replied to Jumping Jack Clennett's topic in Melbourne Demons
Looks like his hat is well and truely in the ring... -
I think Tony is taking a very educated guess...99.9%
-
No, I'm basing it off his career to date. Yes, he's made some mistakes this year but that is expected of a first year coach. We hope he gets better with time... His CV however is not impeccable, there have been issues in the past that do indicate very poor decision making. His thinking out loud in this instance is another poor choice as it was in preseason. He really needs to STFU and in this instance I hope PJ is giving him that advice.
-
I would think not. He has not always made the best decisions, hopefully that is behind him now and he has good council to assist.
-
The knock on him is he just doesn't stand up in the big games... He's a no for me.

It's going to be interesting to see how they sort this out. It was obvious from day one that the CEO had a bit to learn going by her press conference. It seemed she addressed the playing group & got involved in footy issues & we know where that ends up. They realised they had a problem and took action albeit 5 months after the appointment. Now the board member who resigned is another case. Only making assumptions here but I think there would be a bit of unrest at Waverley in how they've lost Mitchell, Lewis and now Hodge in the last 2 seasons. Hodge must be a bitter pill for many members & looking at their performances this year the younger players played much better when he was on the ground. Again as we know that kind of experience is precious. Clarkson could be a problem without Fagan or Evans around to temper things. He's certainly had an interesting approach to rebuilding the list. Maybe the board man wasn't happy with how the CEO selection was handled & if he wasn't the members should be when they realise they missed the opportunity to get Evans back to the club. I think by the morning dial a quote Kennett should have stoked the fire, be interesting to hear from Jeffrey. Wonder if he will throw his hat in the ring. Everything is great when you're winning Premierships but the problems soon surface when you're not. -
Totally different situation...Carlton held the whip hand because Gibbs was still contracted for a few more years. Lever is out of contract, they can't hold him.

I thought this was the most interesting interview on sport I had heard in a long time. I'm not usually a stats man but this is much more than that. Ben Darwin was on with KB and Brian Waldron at the start of the year and predicted Collingwood would drop off when everyone was talking them up. He also said we are heading up and surprisingly had the Tiges on the improve, he didn't predict a flag but said they finally had it right. They also looked at the Dogs 3 years back and predicted their rise. His predictions are based around analytics his company has developed called the TWI (team work index)... I think it's worth a good listen, he starts at around 1 minute 50... It might temper some of the aggressive traders and maybe get us to think more clearly about what it takes to build a champion team. The messiah complex cops a real beating here and I think we can see why Richmond are now successful. They've built a lot of their own and brought in to fill needs...it's how I see us heading and I hope we stick to it. https://audioboom.com/posts/5608235-ben-darwin-gainline-biz-on-hungry-for-sport

Interesting...well, lets hope they pull the wrong rein. Might be a good to see them holding up the ladder for a while.
-
No turmoil. They recognised early they had the wrong person in the CEO role and moved her on. We kept the wrong person in that role for years and nearly destroyed the club doing it. Now that's turmoil...

How about Tippett for Watts as a straight swap?
rjay replied to Dees2014's topic in Melbourne Demons
The pick would be more handy to us to trade for something better than Tippett. Don't need a 30+ yo that's past it, even if he had it in the first place. -
Sorry '25', attitude is the players responsibility. A coach can't be expected to turn it around, the player has to want to make the changes...it's called personal responsibility, taking responsibility for your own actions.

Remember, Goodwin played under Blight. His own career took off when Blight came in and pensioned off legends of the club, the uproar in Adelaide was replaced by euphoria winning the next 2 premierships. Lets hope Goodwin is a good learner and has pulled the right reins...

Pleasure to hear Gus Gould having to praise the Storm...it must really be hurting him.
-
Don't undersell Delidio 'drdrake', he was a serious A grader/elite talent until injury got the better of him. It was said for a while there...no Delidio, no Richmond and that was true. The Tiges did the right thing to move him on...he had no more to give and I doubt he will give much more to GWS.

Give it a break mate...it's a bit colourful saying Jack is being "kicked out of the club" Stop casting aspersions on Jack based on what you say are unsubstantiated rumours. Fair enough if the club want to move him on based on his footy output and/or the ability in their mind to trade up...but don't add something else to the mix then backtrack by talking unsubstantiated rumours from outside the club.

A bit rich coming from Pyke who sat on his hands and didn't make a single move to try and change the course of the game. Absolutely zero effort from the coaching box yesterday, just thought he should stick to his plan and it would turnaround. It didn't Don...hope you had a pleasant day at the footy.

A bit of a problem child...my Port Adelaide sources tell me and not just the reported incident.
-
Hawthorn made the wrong call. As luck would have it our boy Ryan Ferguson didn't want to go to the Hawks and they were stuck with Sewell lucky for them. It wasn't a masterly decision just some good old fashioned luck 'Rusty'.

Nup, 'Red' is on the money. You still need the stars. No Martin, Rance & Cotchin...no Premiership. In fact no Grand Final appearance. You can't undervalue the presence of star players. ...at the moment we have none, but we do have a few who will step up to become stars and that's when our opportunity will open up.
-
Can't give it to an Adelaide player but Matt Crouch was excellent in a losing team...
-
@dazzledavey36called the Tiges as the real deal early in the year...I thought not. The Tiges are my blind spot and Hardwick is now a Premiership coach. Never thought I would see the day. Good call 'Dazzle'...
-
Time to get Lever off...no point risking injury now.
-
Nup, I was right the first time. Leave him off the last Q, he's a total liability on the ground.
-
Still waiting Pike...fiddling while the MCG burns. You're going down but at least do something.
