That's a strange thing to say 'Nelo'... Drugs can be the cause of the mental issues and no doubt staying off them would be an enormous help. ...but quite often it is people with pre existing mental issues self medicating that go down this rabbit hole. Once in the cycle it's a difficult one to break, it's not as simple as just walking away.

We were an established club that thought the good times would go on for ever. Arrogance is a fatal disease. Other clubs got the jump on us and we've never recovered. Been playing catch up since then...

Sacked: Brock McLean reveals booze and drug binges
rjay replied to whatwhat say what's topic in Melbourne Demons
Whilst not a great Molony fan I think the reason they put him up for trade is they had plenty of his type of player. They needed Ottens, as they do again need an Ottens type. I don't think it had anything to do with wanting Moloney out. -
Playing any games at the back end of the season will be a miracle. We might get through to June 11, a little like we scrapped through to the first round but all bets are off after that. If they're relying on player discipline for 5 months as part of the formula then we have no hope. ...but a 2nd wave will finish things off before we get to that.

Sacked: Brock McLean reveals booze and drug binges
rjay replied to whatwhat say what's topic in Melbourne Demons
The culture question is an interesting one. I'm not sure the partying and drug binges are an issue as far as winning games of football is concerned. West Coast are a prime example of that. The current top 4 teams are also renowned. Clubs, the AFL and fans will turn a blind eye if you're winning... However as far as beyond football goes a few will fall by the wayside...it's sad but it also mirrors society. -
He has in his own state... He has his own people to think about....why should he bend over for the AFL?

They will be lucky to get through the season. It's coming into winter here and that's a time when respiratory viruses really kick in... We could be far from on the downhill side of this one. I'm with you, I want to see how the next month plays out.

I agree with him... The AFL talk a level playing field. Then they need to create a hub in a neutral region with all clubs in it together. Personally though I don't see the season being completed... No, I don't think he sees football as being his major objective even though he's had a shot at the AFL. He's thinking of the health and wellbeing of his citizens over the AFL. Good for him. I mean who would trust a bunch of footballers to abide by the rules????

This argument is a furphy... Given there has been no live sport on TV for a while even a Casey v Frankston game would rate through the roof.

Will draw a huge sellout crowd at the 'G'...

They've shown they can't be trusted...players and club/s

Former Dees Assistant Jennings Wants To Scrap VFL
rjay replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Might be a book in that one 'Martian'... I'm part of a boomer generation that is partly maybe majorly responsible for it. The kids that followed have learnt from a pretty selfish bunch. We've been lucky to not be involved in world wars and major downturns. Maybe the cold war had a different impact. Go for it, you might not be here tomorrow. The rise of American culture and it's self help, narcissism. The internet and the BS attached. So many things, just throwing out thoughts from the top of my head. ...but we're not the same as the people of 1918. Just look at how so many were out and about crowding shopping centres yesterday. It was all about them and screw everyone else. -

Different world now...our culture is a lot more self centred and selfish than it was in 1918. -
Not picks but should definitely be points. A fine would be counterproductive in the current environment. A one game penalty would be right.

GRAND FINAL: Demonland's Best/Favourite Demon 1988-2020 - Lyon vs Neitz
rjay replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
The question should have be phrased differently I guess from the start. Best and Favourite are 2 different things. To me Lyon was probably best in this time period but he's most definitely not my favourite. -

If only you were right, but those times are long gone. There will be some re adjustment but then ego & greed will take over. I don't mean the players either, I'm talking local club Presidents and committees.... The SANFL may get away with it this year but players will move on next year for a pay packet. -

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make here 'Martian'? -
GAME 27: Demonland's Best/Favourite Demon 1988-2020 - Stynes vs Jones
rjay replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
It would be interesting to run this again in a couple of years if we get a flag. I suspect Max will bow out gracefully in the top 4 and we get a Stynes/Lyon playoff... Although Neitz is still a dark horse. A flag would change things. -
Do you work for Murdoch 'bing'??? Selective quoting. Here is what I said. "Not a fan of the hub idea myself but this is just a stupid argument... Nobody signed on to this year, we all thought we would have a certain life...but here we are and we will make the best of it as we can and do what we must do. All bets are off... Being an AFL player doesn't make you immune from the world and it's problems." I don't like the hub idea, but I think they need a better argument than 'we didn't sign up for this'... The players are in no way impacted like many people who have no jobs, no income and nothing to go back to. They don't get to fully do their jobs but they are still getting paid way above the average not to do them. How are they impacted more than the rest of us?

“We as AFL players, undertook this contract in 2020, thinking we’d have a certain life, that’s what we agreed to and we signed the dotted line.” Phil Davis and Callan Ward respond to criticism over players reaction to hubs. GWS Giant Phil Davis has defended AFL players for being reluctant to resume the 2020 season in quarantine hubs away from their families. Not a fan of the hub idea myself but this is just a stupid argument... Nobody signed on to this year, we all thought we would have a certain life...but here we are and we will make the best of it as we can and do what we must do. All bets are off... Being an AFL player doesn't make you immune from the world and it's problems.

Interesting... ...but the USA had everything under control, it was nothing, they were tracking fine, the flu was worse, they were never going to be like China.

GAME 22: Demonland's Best/Favourite Demon 1988-2020 - Lovett vs Jones
rjay replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not sure he's had a far superior career... Definitely a standout in a poor time for the club. Lovett was a fantastic player for us in better times. -
Think cruise ships and I reckon you might get an idea of the medical advice...

I think I've said this before... ..but what could go wrong.
