WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY
olisik replied to einstein251's topic in Melbourne Demons
Is Viney, Watts and Jurrah all lining up for Casey this week? Sounds like a match worth watching. May even see some chemistry between the Jacks -

Thats exactly what it is, thats the whole point of the draft and its order. To give more value to those clubs who need it. If there was no market value behind the draft then why would teams bother trading picks? -

Im sure we would all love to see him tear the game apart, who wouldnt? I must say though, some people in this thread seem quite optimistic about possibly paying overs for the lad. -
Unfortunately our first pick will be used on Viney. Cant trade it when we have already used it in the FS bidding process

I suppose i would be happy with Viney, Dangerfield, Stringer and a 17 yr old outa this. I can only see us ending up with 3 of the 4 sadly -

Saying what pick we are willing to use and saying match bid/not match bid is the same thing.... and its not even matching the bid anyway, its using our next pick if u want to be that technical about it. -

Why would GWS take the risk of losing a #1 draft pick in a super draft? How would you feel if MFC decided to bid on Daniher with there pick #3 (If Viney wasnt nominated) if Daniher was only worth a pick #8 just to bring our 2nd rounder forward by one place? I would be thinking 'Why the f@#k did we just do that and not leave it to another team to do?', and if no team did do it i wouldnt care. pick 27 instead of pick 26, big sh#t. We have nominated him and said we want him as F/s, yes!, we havnt showed any intention that we intend on paying overs for him. -

A: It ll stack up and make them question whether 1 pick higher in a 2nd round is worth the risk B: We lose absolutely nothing by raising doubt Footy is about 1%'ers, so why not do one off the field -

We have informed the AFL that we will nominate him as a F/S, we havn't informed the AFL on what pick we are willing to use. Thats the whole purpose of the bidding session. -

We nominate, then put doubt that we not sure if his worth our first rounder, then we bid for him (Either with first or 2nd rounder, depending on how effective the doubt was and how much the teams are wililng to risk to gain 1 pick higher for a 2nd rounder) -
That it would be awesomely delicisious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A simple media conferance to say "we arnt sure if we are taking him yet due to a few issues" could work wonders. Vague, inconclusive yet effective. Front page of newspaper worthy im the week leading up to the bidding session. -

I never said we wouldnt take him, i said there would be no harm in raising doubt about it. u really cant see any potential benefits of raising doubts about us taking him? -

Obviously you didnt read the outcome, coz the outcome i stated was that we do take Viney with our first pick.... -

of course there would be clauses in the contract to get out of it if we needed to. the MFC arnt fools. Do you even know the details of the contract? no one here seems to know the specifics of it yet everyone keeps saying 'he is contracted', hell, he may be contracted as a cleaner for all we know. What have we contracted him for? coz obviously its not to be on our list as his not allowed to be on it yet nor have we drafted him yet. and are we paying him at the moment? and if so is that part of the salary cap? If you were in GWS and GC seat would u take the risk for one 2nd round draft pick higher? -

you just said the same thing again that i just replied to. i was just stating the other potential outcome to what u said, then u said the original outcome again pretty much. as i have said earlier, i would much prefer a Viney(pick 20s), dustin martin(pick 3), and a Trent cotchin(pick 4) rather then just a Viney (pick 3) and a Cotchin (Pick 4) If no doubt is put into the heads of GWS then we will end up with the 2nd result and lose out on a Dustin Martin. -
whats the deal with our team lineup always looking like it has a lop sided wing. even the official team always looks like this with a tough not so tall player on one side and a skinny tall on the other?

They would also have a field day if we have the chance to take Lachie Whitfield or Stringer but instead we take Viney because of the F/S and he turns out to have injuries half his season like half our other players while Whitfield and Stringer go on to be superstars. -
Kid will be to scared to even come to training with captain Trengove running around.
