I'm concerned that he isn't playing the type of football that would make us want to commit to him long term. It's a two way street. When was the last time he got a BOG?

GWS beat Sydney. We had no rucks and a forward line that was so good we needed to play our best backs there. Sure the skills need more polish than a million tonnes of Mr Sheen, and we have half a dozen players that aren't up to the mark, but it is really wrist slitting time? When you play every bounce from CHB and, have zero forwards and a bunch of guys learning (yet another) way to play what are you really expecting? Don't get me wrong, I don't think any of this is something to take heart from but the half a team we had on the park over the last couple of weeks showed more than the full teams we had under Neeld. There is a hell of a lot of work to do - a hell of a lot - but there is less to do than this time last year. We need some tall talent and we need this group to trust each other. That won't happen in a week or two and it was never going to happen in a week or two.

A Grand Old Flag is playing as the team is ready to run out on the ground. "Oh not that song again. I'm not going to try today" says one. "Yeah, me either" says another. "I hate songs that say the world flag. It reminds me of the Queen" "Me too!" "I want to go home" "How come Trenners gets the week off and doesn't have to listen to this crap?" But suddenly the song is changed from the boring flag one to a rousing rendition of L'Internationale "Hey I don't even speak French but now I want to win games" "Me too. And I want to overthrow the AFL!" "Death to all those with a greater percentage than us!" "I love the red we have on our jumpers!" And the team runs out - right through the change room wall - defeating Hawthorn by 364 points, and begins a 37 year winning streak that is only ended because the AFL disbands when all other teams are unwilling to play the 'team that wears the red socks'.

I'm working on the Norse Gods. The rest of you need to branch out and work on the rest. Thor is pretty hard to talk to though. Everytime I mention the MFC he zaps me and laughs.

Too many years of being made to second guess themselves. A new gameplan every couple of years messes with them, and having team mates around in the same boat means that everyone hesitates before doing what should come naturally.

Uh huh. I assume that means he pays us so he can break the contract. I'd bloody well hope so anyway.

He always had guts. Hawthorn like players with guts. For some reason since the Danniher years we've been a little gun shy of them. Granted that some of the gutsy players we picked in that time were talentless head cases, but a couple of them never go astray.

Unless players are headcases good coaches tend to get the best out of them. Jimmy seems to have a good head on his shoulders. He will learn because he will be given good advice. It may take time, but he has that on his side. If Roos can make Dunny look like a player then I reckon he will do just fine with the rest of the talent that isn't realised.

We get a lot more of the ball. Sure we waste a fair bit of it, but unless you have your hands on it you might as well be sitting in the stands. Baby steps, OD, rather than the leaps off tall buildings previous mobs had us attempting.

Oh, and luck. A couple of tonnes of luck.

We'll be just fine. All we need is skill, class, toughness, determination and about 15 good players. Once we get that...
