  1. As do I. But who would you prefer? Tapscott or Dangerfield?
  2. Ok, a lot of unrealistic people angry at the thought of losing Tapscott. If they want Dangerfield, who would you give up then? Come on. REALISTIC suggestions. It has to be someone you don't want to lose, but accept that you will have to in order to bring in a gun. Bate, Dunn, Warnock, Maric suggestions are rubbish. For this exercise, forget Morton. Remember, other clubs generally aren't stupid, so you can't expect to pull the wool over their eyes by disguising sh*t as chocolate cake. Anyone?
  3. Didn't they have this last year?
  4. Well something has obviously changed there because I was disappointed upon Tapscott's drafting that according to different sources, he was listed as either 1 or 2cm shorter than Chapman, from what I read. Still, he's got a long way to go before coming close to Chapman.
  5. It was late in the preseason. A player's 1st preseason is only partial anyway. It's still 1 whole preseason more than Cook, for a small as opposed to a tall. It's not negligible.
  6. David Buttifant spoke about this re: Cameron Wood on SEN a week or so ago. He said simply that some tall blokes just take about 5 years. Couple that with Morton's bad luck* causing him to lose weight... The bloke hasn't had much of a chance. *Nose operation and following illness causing him to lose ~6kg on the eve of the season, PCL injury, finger injury this last preseason which would've prevented him from lifting weights but not running. He's had a bad run.
  7. One another rumour before I rush off - was talking to a close relative of our former ruckman Paul Johnson last night, and although he was expecting to have to hang up his AFL boots, Hawthorn are in talks with him over a new contract. Some might be interested to know that. I was definitely surprised.
  8. Well aware. He was still able to get 2 preseasons into him before his debut. Your appraisal of some of our HBFs is definitely open to debate.
  9. Without a doubt. Will complete part of this coming preseason.
  10. That's your problem. You're stuck in an era 20+ years ago. Do you really think hardness cannot be developed in the players on the list now? Size does matter - and while skinny players can bulk up, Tapscott will never get any taller. All tall midfielders. You compare Tapscott to Chapman? Well Chapman has a cm or 2 on him. His hardness isn't underestimated - he's rated on that aspect the most. But it is something that can be instilled within a playing group. Otherwise you'd be coaching the team on a pittance while BP would be on a $2mil salary. Once again - I wish to keep Tapscott, but open your eyes to the fact he isn't the most critical player on our list, and if we are to improve through trade, it will only be done incrementally through relatively equitable deals. & Dangerfield is simply worth more than Tapscott.
  11. Cook? Undecided. But willing to give a young KPF time. Looked good in the VFL early on. He had injuries late in the year too, which hampered his form and led to surgery. And Tapscott was an almost automatic selection... in his SECOND SEASON. Blease eclipsed him in a handful of late season games. Blease, Strauss, Garland, Grimes, Bartram, Joel MacDonald, Tapscott, all fighting for 3 or 4 spots. Plus any new additions to the list in the coming years.
  12. I think you underestimate the ability of the rest of the players to provide that hardness without his presence. Brutally honest, but for me he is Campbell Brown with a much better kick. I want to keep him, but if he's the difference between getting Dangerfield or not, the choice is Dangerfield.
  13. Really? Let's see him stick with Rioli, Nahas or Garlett first. Defensively he'd play one of the opposition's least dangerous small / mid-sized forwards, not their most dangerous.
  14. Call like what? I haven't declared him a failure - I've just said that it's clear that to get Dangerfield we'll need to give up a player of quality, preferably in a position where we have a glut of that type, and he fits the bill. And kinda ironic for you to be preaching "give the kid time and he'll be a star". Like to pick and choose, do you?
  15. You know Glass is a KPD and has about 10cm on Tapscott, right? If Tapscott was a KPD like Glass, he'd have gone top 3, probably 1st. But he's not. He has some valuable traits, but I'm concerned about his running capacity and agility. Legitimate concerns, I think.
  16. Well you're going to have to pay something. We won't be able to just give up our 30th best player for one of their top 5 and expect them to accept it with a 2nd round pick. Tapscott is hard and a great kick, but what else? I think he's limited. I don't wear the rose-coloured glasses some supporters do. In the cold light of day I accept we overrated our own at times and need to give up something of roughly equal value.
  17. They still have Tippett, Maric, Talia, McKernan, Jacobs, Rutten, Sellar, Shaw (194cm), L. Thompson (196cm), Craig (196cm), Young (194cm), Walker (194cm), Otten (194cm)... They may lose Tippet and/or Maric, but they still have good tall stocks and really needs mids / flankers. Typical misunderstanding of an opposition list. Not having a go, cos I didn't realise they had that many until looking it up myself.
  18. I think that if we really want Dangerfield, we need to be prepared to give up someone like Tapscott plus maybe a 2nd round pick. I am.
  19. And he'd agree if we tell him he'll spend the next 2 years at Casey. I don't want to trade Morton though.
  20. Good retort Pates. Don't disagree with anything you said. Honestly, trading Jurrah is unthinkable, but I just had a dream about it. Before Bailey even looked likely to go to the crows. It made me think. Re: Moloney, I just get personally frustrated at his lack of flexibility, and I think his lack of ability outside of stoppages. With Barrett, I think he's probably just been reading bigfooty again. I think he's alluding to a Dangerfield type deal, not necessarily anyone leaving, purely because he knows we have cap space, and based on nothing more. You'd figure if we are to acquire Dang-ers that we will need to give up someone, and it'll be a shock to that someone.
  21. Moloney, for all that he does well, is a limited footballer in some ways, and I think he has some huge currency. Not likely, but a cold hard evaluation would raise it as a possibility. Similarly Jurrah. This is a bit stupid, and I rarely have dreams involving footy, but I dreamt that Jurrah was traded to Adelaide. I laughed in the morning at how stupid the dream was, but it made me question the merit of it. Young and supremely talented, but with a new coach coming in, who knows? You'd think his currency would be high. His body seems like it could be a bit frail. Elite skillset but what about the rest? Doesn't go in hard enough for the footy, doesn't chase anywhere near as hard as I'd like, defensively is lacking. A lot like Davey in some ways. Who knows with a new coach coming in? If we did move any of those players, it wouldn't just be for the same of it - we'd only do it for an exceptional return. Anyway, just throwing the names out there.
  22. Ok, I'll throw some names out and expect to be howled at, but here goes: Moloney Green Davey Jurrah Rivers
  23. Ling was a very different player, even though he was a relatively fat FF. Bate has serious issues with agility that Ling has never had. It also has a lot to do with what Ling has upstairs.
  24. Are you serious? How about the PCL in a NAB Challenge match? Or gaining some decent weight, then straight away losing ~6kg in the preseason due to illness and recovery from an operation. The new coaching structure is tailor made for effectively developing and getting the best out of highly talented kids like Cale.
  25. When are those reports ever on the money anyway? It's always a case of the media finding out once the deal is practically done anyway. You think teams make these deals and just sit on it for a few weeks before releasing the details?
