    Sam Reid

Can someone please explain to me how Sam Reid has been signed by GWS as a SECOND uncontracted player from the Bulldogs, after Callan Ward? So the dogs will receive compensation for him? After Brisbane needing to trade one of Rischitelli and Brennan last year, this has been some serious shifting of the goalposts. Surely a trade has to happen, or GWS can just pick him up in the PSD, but how does the AFL bend the rules like this? Otherwise it looks like Port will (should) get compo for both Cornes and Brogan, and Brisbane for Power. *caveat - the Herald Sun could quite easily be very wrong on this.
  2. There was supposed to be a change with the new CBA, but the slow negotiations have meant there's been no change for this year, beyond a raise in pay for rookies, meaning there's a big squeeze on middle-tier players. Guys like Toovey.
  3. Yeah, our new coaching structure is perfectly suited to developing and getting the best out of a player like Walsh. I really want him. More than Mitch Clark.
  4. I read that Misson's right hand man came across from St Kilda also. Can't remember his name. Is he on that list?

? Not on this forum. To a mate.
  6. Where's RobbieF to stick his boots into Cook? Never seen him miss an opportunity yet. Tall skinny 1st year KPF who had season-ending surgery? Get a game & dominate you hack! Why aren't you like Carey at his peak? WHY??!!
  7. Misson has probably put a lot of work into this kid, knows his athletic potential and that he is ready to explode. I'd offer our 2nd round pick for him.
  8. Not strictly correct Bing. Adelaide and GC received picks in return. If we were willing to receive less in return, we trump them.
  9. Pretty sure most were smart enough to just ignore it. It's practically your catchphrase.
  10. Great logic there RobbieF........ I think Lisle is a long shot anyway. I'm told he has legitimate family links to North and is determined to get there.
  11. That's how I read it redleg. I think GWS would have to engineer a bloody convincing trade for it to appear as if gaining the O'Meara pick wasn't the original intention. I really hope they try to pull it off, but end up having one of the teams reneg and ruin their plans. That would be bliss. Oh, and the trades they are setting up make it look a lot like a trade for these picks, and less of a blind auction or a tender.
  12. No it wouldn't. There's a lot of posturing and you can't rush negotiations, otherwise teams would be too gun-shy. Extra time is needed for teams to come to grips with not being in contention for mini draft picks, and focus on other dealings. Also teams involved in those negotiations would be holding up other deals. And then lesser players that get left to last would be stuck in their current situation, because there'd be no time left to worry about them. From a spectator point of view it runs too long. In the interest of getting deals done, more time could be beneficial.
  13. How could the draft order be determined, if teams couldn't trade for the picks? Unless teams were restricted to only using draft picks in trade for mini draft picks. If players were involved in trades, it would be unfair to preclude other teams to trade players & picks. The idea of determining the order before trade week doesn't make sense to me.
  14. According to the Hun, North have already interviewed Maric and given him a medical. Fait accompli, it seems. Not much of a loss really. Especially if we land Lisle. We must be certain of having room on our list though. Maybe it's due to one of our players-to-be being ineligible for the 2012 season? Warnock & Bate WILL find new homes. It just depends on what we get in return. Maybe it's also why Green has still not re-signed? But I find it hard to believe his contract negotiations are being held off because we might not have room for him on the list.
  15. I'd be wary of Adelaide. They have pick 10 to our pick 12, and they have an "after 1st round pick" just like ours, but with their supposed exodus I'd expect them to finish lower than us in 2012. If we're thinking of only using the one compo pick, we may get trumped. Wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, but the mini-draft is stealing some of the top talent from the "super draft".
  16. Referring to any of Jurrah, Sylvia, Howe, Green or Petterd as a small forward is laughable. Same goes for Tapscott, Trengove or Gysberts. Medium forwards maybe, but I'm talking small crumbing forwards. That's all Maric has a chance to ever be.
  17. Hasn't done enough and although he's shown some nice skills and an increased workrate, he's on the block. Needs a lot more hardness at the contest and/or explosive athelticism to make an impact at his size, I think. But... No one else has laid claim to the small forward role at MFC, for varying reasons. It's still up for grabs. It's yours if you want it Addam, but that's always been the case.
  18. Maybe I should have said "unfairly maligned by those who have no idea what they're talking about".
  19. Maybe you're forgetting that the rumour involves GC getting pick 9 in return with O'Meara? Then pick 6 and a compo pick definitely wins. Especially considering the compo pick is really after Geelong's pick, as previously mentioned by others.
  20. I've really gotta stop putting $10 on him for the brownlow at the start of every season...
