How the hell can you have both "style" and "player comparison"?? Surely one of those is completely redundant..?
-
Not bashing - just brutally honest appraisal. Maybe you can't handle it, but it's what the club needs, and what Neeld provides. The more the better.
-
WARNING: tangent! Nobody has turned on him - just making honest appraisals. And as far as leading goes, despite his best intentions, Moloney is not a leader's toenail. It doesn't make him a lesser player, or a lesser person - it's just that he doesn't have that skill and I doubt he ever will. I love the guy, but he just ain't that smart. (and smarts are a big part of leadership)
-
Not just that, from the sounds of Neeld's AGM story about Rory Taggert, it sounds like BP was usurped on that choice also, even though he wasn't mature-aged.
-
I think you seriously misinterpreted those rants, if that's what you gleaned from them...
-
Really? How exactly do you explain Geelong having had Ford the whole time they were rubbish and hadn't won a flag for 40+ years? Whichever way you like to paint it, Geelong had retained Ford because of Ford being located there. Nothing more.

Collingwood annoyed at Neelds early departure

With trade week and the draft so soon after the grand final, teams really have no choice. Chances are, if a team is looking for a new coach, they are struggling somewhat. To delay the coaching announcement and give them little preparation time only further disadvantages teams. *although, it seems the teams that made up the 6 in 2010 all have all appointed new coaches since then. -
It's also subjective anyway. Now, if you want a REAL smokey, I'll throw you a name... MORTON. Late bloomer. I wouldn't put a ceiling on this kid.
-
Not necessarily. I'm just more perceptive than you are when it comes to judging a player's ability.
-
Great attitude. I'm sure we could sign a FOJ sponsor for $500K for 2 years right now if we wanted. But surely we're willing to put in the effort and afforing the patience to secure a much better and/or longer term deal.

I'd wager Neeld achieved a lot more than you realised. I don't think the rest of our coaches selected and recruited themselves. The structure of the football department didn't design itself. There was a whole list of footballers he hadn't seen up close, whose film he needed to watch, to give himself a good grounding for making list deletions and additions. Etc. etc. -

Who's JB? Jamie Bennell, of course. -
The recruitment manager's position encompasses appraising future draft classes, as well as the immediate one. And the recruitment manager has not done this on his own. There would still be a wealth of data they could use to determine whether or not to use compo picks this year or not, and I imagine the decision was already 90% made at the time BP resigned.
-
It's not based on the single AA plaudit. He has been A grade for 2&1/2 seasons now, whether you realised it or not.
-
I guess nobody at the AGM asked what we intend to do with the compo picks..?
-
Frawley already is A-grade.
-
Williams hip, Evans back, from what I heard.
-
Petterd..?
-
Gysberts from Watts and Trengove, with Howe and Blease as a smokies.
-
Tom McDonald? Don't wanna put a ceiling on the guy, but I don't think so. I'll go with Gysberts.

Not quite. Depends on your definition of gun, of course, but only going back as far as 1998... Koschitzke, Luke Livingston, Justin Longmuir, Nic Fosdike, Ryan Fitzgerald, Wells, Brennan, Tim Walsh, Tambling, Fiora, Ellis, Andrew Walker, Farren Ray, Hansen, Gumbleton, Masten (early), Morton (early)... The draft is littered with top 4 players that promised much and largely failed to deliver. Some seem to have of late, but took 8 years to do so. Even in the 2001 superdraft of 2001, Graham Polak went at number 4. He was ok pre-tram incident, but I'd never have called him a gun. Not a player to re-build a list around. You may think recruiting has improved, and it has, but the only drafts without top 4 "failures" (not "guns") are far too early to judge.

Jay Clark is a pitiful excuse for a journalist.

?? Do you not understand that it is nothing but hindsight..?
